Abbie Cornish is a Busy Girl

Brian dragged me to see Sucker Punch at the IMAX over the weekend. It was pretty lame. Save your money and just wait for the DVD release. On the bright side, we did get some good photos of the inside of the theater.

The last few times we went were during some really popular movies so we couldn’t catch the the theater empty. We lucked out that Sucker Punch was lame. LOL.

Speaking of, we actually saw two Abbie Cornish flicks this week. She’s also in Limitless, which we saw with Misty last night for cheap movie night. Limitless was okay. Abbie look in Limitless reminds me of Charlize Theron, except Charlize is a better actress. I’m not being catty because Abbie split up Ryan and Reese (though, I have to admit, I wasn’t thrilled when all of that stuff was going on — Ryan should have known better), I’m just stating a fact. She’s been somewhat lame lately. I think that’s what happens when you sell out. Then again, everyone has to make a living and we all “sell out” in our own ways.

I really liked Abbie before she was mainstream. I liked her better in Candy (with the late Heath Ledger) and Somersault (available on instant watch on Netflix). Of course, she’s probably making a lot more now.

Wicked Rule, Vagus, Surphace

Posted on April 7, 2011 by under Things to Do.

We got to see Wicked Rule, Vagus and Surphace at The Lizard Lounge last Saturday after the ping pong tournament. Thanks for the invite, Jenni!

Brian didn’t like Wicked Rule because they had a weak lead singer. In his words, “It’s a shame that the singer isn’t as good as the band.” He liked Vagus, though. I thought both were okay. Wicked Rule gets bonus points for playing one of my favorite songs (see below — unless you’re on Facebook, in which case you have to click here).

I’ve yet to hear a version of Wicked Game that I didn’t like. I even enjoyed the rocked out Wicked Rule version, despite their lead singer. 😉 LOL.

Brian and I both really liked Surphace. We’d totally go see them again. Jenni says they’re playing at America’s Pub on the 16th. We would totally go, except we already have a prior engagement — The Fabulous Fleshtones at the Port of Wichita. It’s a very important night because Brian and I are playing matchmaker. 😉

We are for sure attending the next Surphace gig, though!

6th Annual Hull Invitational

Posted on April 6, 2011 by under Games, Things to Do.

I think I’m going to learn how to play ping pong, in addition to learning how to play disc golf this year. I’m uber competitive and I felt left out on Saturday because I didn’t know how to play. So I promised myself that I’m going to learn how to play ping pong and get really good at it. I’m going to train so I can take down the tournament next year.

Here are some more photos as promised…

Brian hadn’t played ping pong before, but he was a good sport and gave it a shot. This is a photo of Uncle Roy explaining the rules of the game.

Brian vs. Vinton was the first match.

Brian and Jocelyn were completely enthralled by the People of Walmart app.

Spectating…

Steve and Val were there too.

Since Val teaches group fitness classes at Andover YMCA, Brian said he is constantly running into Steve there. Steve promptly outed Brian by telling everyone that he usually sees Brian just sitting there, watching TV. LOL.

I’m not sure who won the doubles tournament because we left to meet Jenni at LL right as they were getting started. As far the the individual tournament went, though, defending champion Uncle Roy and his ping pong prowess prevailed yet again.

This will be his last year as champ, though, because I’m taking it down next year. 😉

High Tech Dental

Posted on April 6, 2011 by under Life.

So, have I told you how cool our new dentist is. They have one of the most high tech facilities that I have ever seen.
Last Saturday I had to get a new crown put on one of my teeth. In the past it was a long process where I hade to get an impression, have a temp put on, wait two weeks while it was sent out and made then come back and have the new one put on. Not this time.

Here is a video of my tooth being made.

Here is what it looked like after, before they stuffed it in my head.

And the days of those tacky dental impressions are in the past. They have digital imagery that does most of the work for you. This machine was the coolest. They had to spray a powder on your teeth that is the same stuff they print on M&M’s. Then they take a little camera and take a few pictures. Once they have all of the images, the computer finds the best match out of over 4000 possibilities. Then it provides a number and that tells you what porcelain blank to put into the machine. Then, 12 minutes later, you have a tooth.

All-in-all, I would say that my experience was awesome. I have to go back next month for a few filling replacements. Hopefully it will be just as rewarding.
