The GMAT Challenge
Posted on June 1, 2006 by Ching under School.
So a couple of weeks ago at my graduation get together at mom and dad’s I told Jen and Ray that I was about to take the GMAT. I mentioned that I was a bit apprehensive because I had heard so many horror stories from other people.
Ray was like, I’m going to take the GMAT too but I won’t study. He had previously expressed that he was planning on returning to school to get his MBA so he would be taking the GMAT eventually.
Anyway, after receiving a pretty decent score on my GMAT without studying I told Jen to tell Ray that I scored a 600 and now it’s his turn. He goes, “Screw Ching! That costs money!”
So I asked Jen what that comment from the grad party was all about. She’s like, “That’s just Ray. He likes to make people feel bad.”
I will laugh my butt off if he studies for the GMAT before taking it and scores less than I did! I’m sure I’ll probably never find out, though.

Personal Goals Statement
Posted on May 29, 2006 by Ching under School.
I just finished writing my Personal Goals Statement. Although it took less than an hour to write, I don’t plan to re-write it so I sure hope that it is good enough. I’m actually waiting for Brian to finish playing WOW (or at least stop long enough) so that he can proof-read my essay. I figured there will be some typos and misspelled words and such. I anticipate some minor corrections will need to be made, but I’m not writing a whole new essay altogether. No way, Jose.
If it’s crappy, then that’s the price that I have to pay for procrastinating. I can’t really be expected draft anything spectacular in this short of a time frame (the admission deadline for fall semester is June 1). Besides, I have met people who can’t even put together a good, grammatically-sound paragraph who have been admitted to grad school so it shouldn’t be that hard, right? In any case, my co-worker Mo is currently in the WSU MBA program says he doesn’t think they actually read these things. I’m sure they do but geez, I’d need at least thousand words to tell my story. How am I to express my goal of world domination in five hundred words or less? It’s not happening.
Kidding aside, this is my attempt at rationalizing my lackluster admissions essay. If I don’t get accepted, you can all tell me I told you so. =P

Surviving the GMAT
Posted on May 20, 2006 by Ching under School.
GMAT is finally done! I took it this morning and managed to score a 600 with very minimal preparation. Minimal as in, I didn’t study at all. I just took two practice tests. That’s all I did.
Eat your heart out, Chad! That’s for making worry and stress over a stupid test!
I guess I could say that if I had the luxury of time (which I didn’t because the application deadline for fall is June 1st) I would’ve studied for the test for the recommended four weeks — but who wants to do that? Even if I had the time, I don’t think I would’ve. So I think I was better of rushing to get the test scheduled and out of the way.
Anyway, the only thing left on my grad school admission to do list is to write my personal goals statement essay. You all know what that will be about — world domination, of course! Did you expect anything less?
Once I get my essay completed (shouldn’t be too tough as I am an accomplished marathon blogger with years of experience — ask Mr. Duncan), I just need to mail it, along with the most recent version of my resume, to the grad school and I am set.
Well, the hard part comes next. Looking for money to fund my grad school education. They say the GMAT is challenging, but looking for a benefactor who will pay your way — that’s definitely tougher!

On Graduating with Honors
Posted on May 17, 2006 by Ching under School.
Â
I had no idea. I wish I would’ve known. I could’ve bought an honors cord and everything. The lady at the bookstore tried to sell one to me when I bought my graduation regalia. I declined because I didn’t think I would be able to graduate with honors because of my CS 300 class which I was failing in. I didn’t realize that they were going to use grades as of fall.
So anyway, I don’t have a cord for pictures. What a shame! I could’ve even used the one I had for my high school graduation. It looks exactly identical to our old 4.0 honor cords.
Of course, it’s been ten years. Mom has probably tossed it. Incidentally, I left my graduation regalia at her house. I made her promise not to throw it away because I will need it again in a couple of years when I finish my masters. Besides, Jen may be able to use it too. So one of us will be able to use it.
Oh, the funny thing is Justin didn’t even know I made Cum Laude. When they asked those graduating Cum Laude to stand and I stood up he made at face at me as if to say, “What are you doing? You didn’t graduate with honors. You don’t even have an honor cord!”
I just stuck my tongue out at him. My name is on the list, dammit! So I’m standing up to get the proper recognition. LOL!
