MIF Deli – So Good You Have to Try It

Posted on June 21, 2012 by under Food and Drink, Reviews.

2012-06-16 11.25.03.jpg

I’m so glad that the Wichita Eagle finally published my review of MIF Deli because I’ve been dying to tell you guys about it. It’s super awesome! Before we dive into that though, here are some photos to whet your appetite.

I asked Brian to take a couple of bites out of his pita sandwich so we can take a picture of it. Look at all the chicken they put in this thing! They don’t short you on chicken. That’s for sure!

Brian likes to dunk his pita in the tomato soup before taking a bite. I guess it’s better that was or something. Like milk and cookies or donuts and coffee?

Another close up shot of the food. Why? Because we love food porn.

Here’s a close up shot of my curry chicken on pita.

I’m going to eat this as a salad next time because it is super delicious. Anyway, the restaurant is a cozy, little mom and pop joint on Central and Edgemoor, next to McDonald’s. I’m surprised that McDonald’s is still in business, actually. Why on God’s earth you would eat there when you have MIF Deli next door is beyond me.

M.I.F Deli on Urbanspoon

FourSquare lists MIF Deli as Turkish, which I thought was odd because the owner is actually Lebanese. Then again, Greek, Turkish, and Lebanese food have many similarities. I’m actually not quite sure that my palette is trained enough to tell the subtle nuances between the three. I think the name says it all. MIF stands for Mediterranean International Foods. The restaurant offers Greek and Turkish items. I’m sure many of the menu items that I’m thinking are Greek or Turkish have that Lebanese flair that punches it up a notch.

Brian and I tried the restaurant for the first time after our workout on Saturday. It was really good because I felt like I was eating somewhat healthy and, thus, not thoroughly negating the workout that I had just sweat through. I craved it again the next day but, alas, the restaurant is closed on Sunday.

As you know, Brian and I have hectic schedules throughout the week so the next opportunity to return won’t present itself until this weekend. I have some MIF Deli in my future on Saturday. LOL.

Celebrating with Our Dads

Posted on June 17, 2012 by under Family, Food and Drink.

2012-06-17 11.45.56.jpg

We had a lot to celebrate today. We were celebrating Brian’s 38th birthday, Grandma’s 90th birthday, David and Donna’s wedding anniversary, and Father’s Day.

2012-06-17 11.46.25.jpg

We picked AVI Seabar and Chophouse because we like their food and we figured it wouldn’t be busy.

2012-06-17 11.45.14.jpg

We had a nice leisurely lunch and plenty of time to take photos and exchange gifts before our food arrived. Speaking of food, here are some photos…

Brian, his mom and dad, and Grandma all got free dessert for celebrating their special days. Brian picked chocolate cake, pictured above. It’s pretty good but I would recommend getting the cheesecake, which is what his mom and dad got. I’m not a huge cheesecake fan, but they have great cheesecake at AVI. I would actually eat it. Brian’s Grandma picked the banana nut cake, but asked for hers to go so I didn’t get to try it. I’m sure it’s equally delicious.

Anyway, if you want to avoid the hassle of long waits and crowded restaurants I highly recommend checking out AVI. The food prices are quite reasonable and the quality of the food is quite good. At least, the things I’ve tried. I had the shrimp and fish tacos today, which were delicious. Brian always gets the same thing every time. He loves their croque madame with a side of the hand cut fries with truffle oil. I have to agree with him on the fries. The fries at AVI are awesome.

Before I end this blog entry, let me share a couple more photos…

Thank you to Mom, Dad, David, Donna, Jenni, and Grandma for celebrating with us today! Happy Father’s Day to David and Dad!

Pool Time with the Dills

2012-06-16 19.14.39.jpg

Jay and Becca hung out at the pool with us on Saturday night. There’s never anyone at our pool on Friday and Saturday nights so we pretty much had the pool to ourselves.

2012-06-16 18.49.41.jpg

We had a good ol’ time frolicking in and out of the water.

2012-06-16 18.25.20.jpg

Afterwards it was time for flaming quesaDILLas.

Chicken QuesaDILLas

Okay, so they weren’t really flaming. But they were delicious. Good job, Jay and Brian. We all agreed this was the best batch of quesadillas the boys ever made.

Then it was time for The Vow, which made me cry but that doesn’t really say much. Almost every movie makes me cry. It starts out really rough and hokey. I mean, what was up with Rachel McAdams’ hair in the beginning of the movie? She looked like she was wearing a wig. The movie does get better towards the end. About the same time that Rachel’s hair starts looking normal. LOL. I don’t know if you guys saw Serendipity with Kate Beckinsdale and John Cusack a few years back, but how The Vow ends kind of reminds me of that movie.

Anyway, Becca is completely enamored with Channing Tatum. He’s got a nice body and everything, but he just doesn’t seem that attractive to me. It could be that he’s too young. I mean, if I had a choice between Jason Statham and Channing Tatum, I’d pick JS every time. Now, that’s one sexy man.

Speaking of, Brian and I hung out at the pool again today and saw a guy who resembled a young JS. I think it might have been the shaved head and the aviator glasses he was wearing. I told Brian we needed to get him some of those. LOL. Although, I think Brian will look more like Bruce Willis than JS when the time comes. Either way works for me. I think BW is sexy too.

Congrats to Don Sherman!

Posted on June 16, 2012 by under Events, Food and Drink.

2012-06-15 17.07.38.jpg

Congratulations to my idol Don Sherman for being recognized as Father of the Year by the American Diabetes Association! His beautiful daughter Bethany gave an eloquent introduction, which was sweet and witty. He must be very proud of her, and she of him for being named one of ADA’s Fathers of the Year.

The other honorees were Chad Tharp of B&B Airparts and David E. Wells, President of Key Construction. Congratulations to all three Fathers of the Year!

2012-06-15 19.32.42.jpg

The food at the ADA Father of the Year Awards dinner last night was quite colorful. Brian wasn’t a fan, but I thought it was quite good. I’m not a huge fan of salmon, but this was delicious (after you get past the strange red sauce). Actually, the red sauce had great flavor. The color is just really shocking. Besides, it’s ADA approved, so how can you go wrong? LOL. The chicken was served with a peanut sauce. I like peanut sauce so the first bite was a pleasant surprise.

Anyway, whether or not Brian and I enjoyed the food really doesn’t matter. It was awesome to witness Don receive is award. I’m glad we could be there.
