More Christmas Lights

Every year April, who is the president of their HOA, rents a party bus for the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights together. What a great idea, right? I wish our neighborhood HOA would do stuff like this. Anyway, we didn’t get to go last year but she extended an invitation again this year and now we are finally able to go.

Except for getting lost and the three dead-ends, it was a blast. We had a good time drinking and making merry at the back of the bus. The bus driver didn’t partake that I know of, but when we got lost and hit the dead-ends I had to wonder. LOL.

We took the opportunity to deliver our presents to our friends since we were all together that day. We got the Dills and the Phelps the same thing and we had a small gift for Mama Dill. Our favorite thing to do is get gifts for Gavin, though. It’s always so much fun to watch kids open presents.

Brian and I each picked out a gift for Gavin. My pick, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Blast N Launch toy, was a far bigger hit than Brian’s pick, the Crayola Cars 2 Light Up Tracing Desk. Gavin played with the rocket launcher toy until it was time to leave and it was the first thing he looked for when we got back from looking at lights two hours later. I used to think that Brian was the foremost expert on selecting the best kids’ toys but apparently I’m pretty talented at it myself. LOL. If you guys need toy advice, feel free to hire me. I offer consulting services at a pretty reasonable price.

All jokes aside, now that we’ve given everyone their presents we may not need to host an annual holiday gathering. We’ve done it for three years straight now (though we had to do it late last year because people were out of town) and we’ve really looked forward to it every year. This may be the year to start a whole new tradition. Either way we’ve had a fantastic holiday and we wish everyone an amazing new year ahead!

More Pictures from Last Weekend

Posted on December 21, 2013 by under Events, Things to Do.

We were pretty busy last weekend with the Employees’ Association holiday party at Prairie Pines Christmas Tree Farm on Saturday night and then Illuminations at Botanica on Sunday night. I was really looking forward to both this year because I missed the events last year due to my thyroidectomy.

Here’s a photo of Joel and Misty from Saturday night.

Here are some of my favorites from Illuminations on Sunday night.

I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to go this year. The weather on Sunday was fantastic also. I brought gloves but actually didn’t need them. I throughly enjoyed walking through Botanica with Brian looking at all the beautiful lights. Until next year!

Grocery Shopping with Grandma

Posted on December 21, 2013 by under Family, Games, Shopping.

Following breakfast we took grandma to do her grocery shopping at Dillons.

Grandma said that she knows approximately what her total is each time so all three of us made our bid before check out. Guess who was the closest? We agreed that very day that, among the three of us, I would probably be most qualified for The Price is Right. LOL. Which amazes me because I rarely ever do any grocery shopping. I’m just really good at guessing prices, I guess.

Breakfast with Grandma

Posted on December 21, 2013 by under Family, Food and Drink.

Brian and I took grandma to breakfast at Livingston’s Diner last weekend. It was her first time there. She got the Mickey Mouse breakfast, which she seemed to enjoy.

My favorite thing to get there is their corned beef hash.

There’s not many restaurants or diners here in town that serve it.

Mmmm… Homemade biscuits and gravy.

I didn’t get any pictures of our cinnamon roll because we annihilated it. The cinnamon roll disappeared from our table almost as soon as it arrived. How can you pass up their yummy cinnamon rolls, though? I would eat a dozen of them in one sitting if I could.

We got grandma a cinnamon roll to go also so she could have some at home later that day also. I think she really liked Livingston’s Diner. At least I hope she did. It’s probably one of my most favorite places to eat breakfast here in town.

Bruff’s in Emporia

Posted on December 19, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

We had our department holiday luncheon last week at Bruff’s in Emporia.

We all got smartphone gloves for Christmas. I love, love, love mine!

I have to post a couple of pictures of food, of course.

We have teammates from all over, mostly Topeka and Wichita, so we decided to cut the difference and have our holiday luncheon in Emporia. There are not many restaurants to choose from in Emporia so we ended up at Bruff’s. The place is kind of out of the way and weird. I think they used to be located downtown, but there was a fire and they had to move. Now the restaurant is housed in a metal building. Don’t let the unusual exterior fool you, though. The restaurant has an extensive menu and I’ve heard their burgers are pretty darn good. I think that’s what I should have ordered. Instead I ordered a salmon, which was just okay. My mashed potatoes and green beans were just okay too.

Bruff’s was a good choice for our team but I’m not sure that I’d actually go out of my way to go there. And, if do, I’m probably getting a burger next time instead.
