Brian Has Trust Issues

Posted on May 25, 2010 by under Web.

Brian has trust issues, specially when it comes to online interactions. He thinks I am too naive. He freaked out on me tonight because I was communicating with @Cox_Will via DM on Twitter.

@Cox_Will had asked if we wanted him to set up the premium channels on our account because they’re currently running a promotion where you can get two premium channels for free for 30 days. So I asked Brian if I could go ahead and have him call us to set it up. “You didn’t give him any of our account information did you?!” Brian barked at me and then promptly gave me a lecture on how there are scammers all over the internet and how I shouldn’t be so naive. I told him that this @Cox_Will person worked for Cox and that I remembered him messaging us on Twitter before when we had problems getting our service transferred. Brian was like, “I can set up a Twitter account and tell everyone I’m with a company and you’d believe me. I will get all of your information. If we get our identities stolen, it will be because of you.” Blah blah blah blah…

I know that to give out any information over the web. Duh?! I wasn’t even going to give out our number. My plan was to call the Cox customer service number. I just hadn’t figured out how to ask for @Cox_Will. Would the customer service representative I get on the phone know who I’m talking about?

Anyway, since Brian nixed that whole idea I’ll just let him do it. We only really need HBO and we don’t absolutely have to have it for a couple of weeks. Just need it in time for the True Blood season premiere. =P

P.S. Even though @Cox_Will‘s Twitter account isn’t a “verified” account, I was able to confirm his identity through my friend/coworker Isaac. He used to work for Cox and they knew each other from when Isaac was a supervisor over there. I don’t think that makes a difference to Brian, though.

Lol. Funny story. Brian does have a good point, though. But I still think it is okay to have a chat with someone online. But Curtis didn’t hesitate to freak out when I had a live chat with our cell phone company and order new phones that way!
