Going to See the Orphaned Baby Owls

Posted on April 11, 2009 by under Things to Do.

Jan, Brian and I (along with several people from work and maybe the Cannadys) are taking a road trip to the Eagle Valley Raptor Center in Cheney today. We are going to see the baby owls that were orphaned during the last ice storm. There was another news story about the owls again on KAKE.

We have a group of 20 or so people coming. Jan was able to arrange a tour for us. I’m really excited to see the baby owls and take some pictures, as are others I’m sure. Anyway, here’s the info if you would like to join us this afternoon:

Eagle Valley Raptor Center
927 North 343rd St West
Cheney, Kansas 67025

$5 per person, additional donations welcome

SHORT DIRECTIONS [via EVRC web site]: Eagle Valley Raptor Center is an easy twenty-five minute drive from Wichita on Kellogg (US-54). The overpass for 343rd Street is relatively new, and has very nice, large signs. The drive North on 343rd is only two miles, and EVRC is on the West side of the road.

LONG DIRECTIONS [via Ken Lockwood]: Coming from Wichita, get on Kellogg and head west as you would to go to the airport. Head west on Kellogg/54 Highway. You will go through West Wichita, heading west past the airport road which is Ridge Road, then Tyler, Maize and then the cross roads become numbered, starting with 111th Street West. You will enter the town of Goddard, which is about 8 miles west of the airport. Continue heading west through Goddard.

About 5 miles west of Goddard, you will pass the Garden Plain Exit. Go 3 more miles and you will see our exit, which is 343rd Street West. Exit 343rd Street and you will turn north, which is turning right. Go exactly 2 miles north of Kellogg. The last cross road you will cross heading north on 343rd St is 4th Street. We are the 3rd place on the left (west side of the road) north of 4th Street. You will see our 100 foot long wooden flight pen which has a netted roof on it. You will also see our pavilion, which has a big green roof on it. There are 2 signs at the front of our driveway. One says Wildlife Center and the other has our street address of 927 N 343rd Street W. Pull into the parking lot and park the bus in front of the pavilion facing 343rd Street, so the kids can unload directly into the pavilion.
