Our Nephews
Posted on July 7, 2013 by Ching under Family.
Our three adorable nephews — Logan (13), Eli (7), and Q (3) — spent the night with us on Friday night. The original plan was to just have Logan and Eli over and Q was going to stay with mom and dad. However, the three boys are inseparable. We were worried that Q would have a fit if he was separated from his older brothers so mom, dad, and Q spent the night with us on Friday night also.
Brian made a chicken pasta dish for the grown ups and the boys had Pizza Hut.
After dinner and swimming it was movie time. We watched Escape from Planet Earth.
The next morning we had bacon and pancakes and scrambled eggs.
It sprinkled a lithe but that didn’t stop he boys from playing with the boat.
Brian does such a good job with the boys. I’m glad that mom and dad were there, though. I’m not sure that we could have handled all three boys by ourselves. Anyway, I wish we had more time to spend with our nephews. Maybe next time we can talk Matt and Jen into letting them stay longer.

Kainan Na
Posted on July 7, 2013 by Ching under Food and Drink.
For many the 4th of July means fireworks. For us it’s another excuse to have a feast. That’s what we do on holidays anyway. LOL.
Brian and I brought a bottle of rosato and teriyaki chicken kabobs. It’s healthy-ish, but there were plenty of other unhealthy options for us to feast on last Thursday.
Mom made delicious fruit cocktail. The only thing missing was butong.
Some kind of salad. I didn’t have any. 🙁
She also made a spicy beef and sausage dish. It’s kind of like caldereta.
Sinigang na baboy. You can’t see the pork, but it’s there.
Pinatatasan. Pork and potatoes and mushroom. I’m not sure why the mushrooms are in there. Usually it’s just pork and potatoes. If I had to guess I’d say mom was cleaning out her refrigerator. LOL.
For dessert we had bico, which I’m not really too fond of…
..and Jen and Armando brought chocolate and peanut butter pie from the Copper Oven.
Brian’s mom also made some super delicious peach cobbler for us. My dad absolutely loved it. Best peach cobbler I’ve ever had hands down. It’s better than the life-changing peach cobbler I had from Jayleen Catering last year and better than the peach cobbler they serve at Bite ME BBQ.
It is so good that I actually want to learn how to make it.
Our favorite thing to do after our annual 4th of July feast is sit out on the golf course where we can see 360 degrees around us. We just sit in our lawn chairs and wait for the fireworks to commence.
No words can describe how amazing it is. Everywhere you look there’s fireworks. I wish I would have gotten some pictures of it. This is the best we can do.
Who needs to buy fireworks when you can enjoy everyone else’s fireworks show?

More Unhealthy Food
Posted on July 6, 2013 by Ching under Food and Drink.
We celebrated the completion of the most recent training class by having lunch at a downtown Wichita landmark, The Anchor. I got to try their fried pickles for the first time. So yummy! I’m adding it to my “must order when at The Anchor list” along with the truffle fries.
This whole week has been really bad for the diet. It’s hard to pass up all of that delicious food, though. At least I didn’t eat everything pictured above, I guess. I just had one of these dishes. Can you guess which plate was mine?

Cafe Bel Ami
Posted on July 6, 2013 by Ching under Food and Drink.
Pictures of my food at Cafe Bel Ami last week…
They have great fattoush salad with feta. I’ve been hooked on feta cheese lately.
Everything is great at Cafe Bel Ami, actually. I’ve yet to eat anything there that wasn’t delicious. Of course, I get my usual most of the time — grilled tilapia. It was really good this time because instead of mixed veggies, it came with green beans. Their green beans are done really well. I made a happy plate.
The one down side about eating at Cafe Bel Ami is that they’re not fast at all. You can’t really expect to be in and out. It’s kind of a leisurely place to eat. You need to allow at least two hours. Seriously. They are never fast. Even on their slow days, they aren’t. The food is delicious, though. It may be worth it for some. For me, it’s a once in a while kind of treat.
If you don’t mind slow food, you definitely have to give this restaurant a try. It’s one of the nicer restaurants downtown (and one of my favorites). The menu prices are great too. The quality of the food is outstanding for what you pay. The service is equally good, slowness aside. Give this place a try and let me know what you think.

Our Moonshine Oil Lamp
Posted on July 5, 2013 by Ching under Projects.
I saw this video on YouTube and Brian saw some how-tos on Pinterest for how to turn wine bottles into oil lamps so we decided to start collecting all of our used wine bottles. We have at least a dozen of them now.
One of the cooler used bottles in our collection was our bottle of Midnight Moon moonshine. Thanks to Jay for bringing it over to one of our parties.

We couldn’t find the exact materials that we need but we improvised. We purchase two copper reducers and inserted the smaller into the larger one to create a neck for the wick. Brian used teflon tape to ensure that there is a snug fit between our bottle and the neck that holds the wick. We bought a big jug of citronella tiki torch fuel for our oil. And, voila! We have our moonshine oil lamp.
Brian is going to get some more materials today so that we can convert our empty Grand Marnier bottle into another oil lamp. I think it will look really cool.

What do you think?
