Haven’t We Met Before?

Posted on August 8, 2010 by under Life.

By the way, the server we had at Bonefish Grill the other night turned out to be an old poker acquaintance. After he came to our table the first time, I told Brian that I thought he looked familiar.

“I was just thinking the same thing,” Brian confessed.

Then it came to me, “I know where we know him from! Poker! Let’s ask when he comes back.”

I was thinking Blue Collar because I didn’t go back in my memory far enough. Bill actually said we played poker together at Fingers. That was over six years ago! He’d moved away to Denver and then come back since then. What a happy coincidence that we got placed in his section!

Incidentally, I went through my 2004 pictures and found this photo I had taken of Bill when we were playing together at the same table at Fingers. I have always been a picture freak so not a moment passes without being captured for posterity.

So everyone, meet Bill…

Anniversary Dinner

We decided to have our anniversary dinner at Bonefish Grill this year. It had been quite a while since we’d last dined there so it was time.

It was a good thing that we made reservations because they were super busy on Friday night. There was a couple ahead of us that was quoted a thirty-minute wait, which is a long wait considering it was only a half past six o’clock in the evening. We didn’t have to wait at all, though, because our table was ready when we got there.

Dinner started with Bang Bang Shrimp, a Bonefish specialty and the appetizer item that everyone orders, and a glass of Pomegranate Mango Sangria. Both were delicious!

The sangria was very, very good. So good that I’m considering going back one Wednesday ($5 Bang Bang Shrimp night) just for Bang Bang and drinks.

For my entree, I had one of the specials on the list: flounder with the spinach and lump crab on top. I substituted the seasonal veggies with broccoli because I need fiber.

Brian, who is unadventurous, had the filet with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies.

He said it was good, but the portions have gotten considerably smaller. We remember going when the restaurant first opened. The servings were much more generous back then. That’s the way it goes, though. As a restaurant has been open for a while, the portions just get smaller and smaller. Not that it matters much because we don’t usually finish our food anyway.

We went downtown post-dinner because Brian promised me salsa dancing at Suede. Parking was a challenge because the Friday night concert was going on at the Farm and Art Market Plaza. There were hundreds of people gathered there.

Suede was pretty empty when we first arrived. It didn’t get packed until about 11:30 PM or so. We didn’t really plan on staying up that late (we’re a couple of old farts) so Brian and I took off around midnight, just when the party was getting started. Neither of us like crowds much and the dance floor had gotten too crowded at that point. I already got a couple of dances out of Brian so I got what I came for… LOL.

Our actual wedding anniversary isn’t until Tuesday, August 10, but we have Logan until then so we figured we’d celebrate early. I think having Logan stay with us for a couple of days is probably the highlight of our anniversary this year. No one has entrusted us with their child before. It really makes me feel like a grown up. Not so sure about Brian, though. He’s looking forward to playing video games with Logan over the next couple of days. I think he’s reverted back to being 10 again. 😉

Western Hoe-Down at QAC

Posted on August 8, 2010 by under Life.

We had a good time at the Western Hoe-Down. It was a great opportunity to meet some of our neighbors. Laurence is a Mechanical Engineer who works for Airbus. She’s only been living in Wichita for six months. Matt is Airforce Pilot who flies KC135s. He’s only been in Wichita for a couple of months. So far everyone we’ve met has been wonderful.

This is Sue Dunlop, our favorite leasing agent. She is so bubbly and energetic. We just love her!

The hoe-down was actually pretty cool. They had the Windwagon on hand for photos and the present Admiral spoke. He was a little weird and rambled on about random stuff like picking up chicks at the Wichita River Festival. They did supply free beer at the party. He must have had a few. =P

The food was by Jet BBQ. It was pretty good. They also had a Baskin Robbins stand for ice cream sundaes. I tried to resist, but I ended up having one. I blame the failure of my resolve on the spicy, spicy hotlinks.

There was a DJ on hand, but not much dancing took place. Brian got to play in the Western Jeopardy game and somehow came in second despite having answered only one question correctly. It was really challenging Western trivia. LOL.

I’m told that they have two of these events annually: one in summer and one in winter. At the community party last December they had a trolley car that drove you around to look at Christmas lights around the city. I hope they do that again this year because I will surely take them up on it. 😉

We are a Family of Nerds

Posted on August 7, 2010 by under Family.

The only way I know what’s going on with my family is through their Facebook and their blogs. Unlike Brian who actually calls his parents on a daily basis, I’d be lucky to talk to mom or dad or even Jenni for that matter once a week. I don’t think I’m a horrible child (after all, I was the goody-goody who always got good grades and never got into any trouble); I’m just not much of a phone call person.

If I need to know what’s going on with Jenni, I go to her blog. If I need to know what’s going on with my nephews and the rest of the Cannadys, I go to their blog. If I need to know what’s going on with mom and dad, I just go to their blog. Of course, that’s if they haven’t posted their whereabouts or happenings on Facebook yet. My mom is constantly updating her status. LOL.

So anyway, I was checking on Jenni today and found this on her blog.

jenni

Don’t be so paranoid, Jenni! No one has been “gossiping” about you. I was simply trying to impart some sisterly wisdom to help you avoid potential relationship pitfalls.

Even though you were a total pain when we were growing up, I love you and I’m here for you. Holler at me if you get a hankering for more unsolicited advice. LOL.

P.S. I am a little psychic when it comes to these things.

P.P.S. I wish people would look out for me and give me unsolicited advice from time to time. I’m tired of taking my own bad advice.

One Heck of a Busy Week

Posted on August 2, 2010 by under Family, Health, Life, Things to Do.

It may be Saturday again before I get a chance to make it to the Y so I’m going to need to squeeze some working out at lunch time. I had planned on working out with Brian after work, but I noticed that I had a UPS package from Amazon that was scheduled to be delivered today. I ended up rushing home before the leasing office closed so I could pick up my package. (I may do some crunches on my stability ball after I post this to make up for not working out today. We’ll see.)

Here’s what’s going on this week that’s keeping me from making it to the Y:

Tuesday – Mystery shop at Granite City, which reminds me, I need to go over those materials to make sure I know what I’m supposed to score them on. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these.

Wednesday – Movie date with Misty. We’re going to see Inception for cheap movie night. I think Brian’s dad will be meeting us at the theater also. I can’t wait to see Inception. I heard it’s pretty good.

Thursday – Waxing at Beau Monde and then Western Hoe-Down at QAC. Our apartment complex is hosting a Western pool party with Jet BBQ, Legend of Windwagon Smith, music, games and prizes. Sounds like loads of fun.

Brian found the note/invitation hanging on our door last week, but we completely just spaced it out. I’m glad that I was at the leasing office earlier because we totally forgot to RSVP. Sue was like, “Are you guys coming to the party on Thursday?” I told her that I’d be there and she asked, “So I should put you down for two then?” It took a while to register because I didn’t realize that I was supposed to RSVP. Brian failed to tell me that part. “Brian is coming too, right?” I was like, “I suppose I’ll bring him with me… Put us down for two please.”

Friday – Dinner at Bonefish Grill and then I think Brian is taking me out to Suede for Salsa night. I’ve decided I might take the new dress for a spin. Kind of like a dress rehearsal of sorts. LOL. This will be our anniversary celebration because we have Logan (our nephew) on our actual anniversary day.

Saturday – I’ll finally be able to make it to the Y (Andover branch). Can’t miss Saturdays because it’s my favorite step class. Afterward we’ll be doing some intense house cleaning in preparation for Logan’s visit. We’ll have to interrupt the house cleaning for a brief stop at the Phelpi for Gavin’s 1st birthday, though.

Sunday – Step and Core (North branch) and then Logan arrives. Not sure yet what time, but we’ll be ready for him anytime. Brian is doing his P90X workout at home so he’ll be home all day in case Logan arrives earlier in the afternoon. Will need to check with the Cannadys to find out what time they’ll be dropping him off and if they want to have dinner over here.

Monday – Brian and I are both taking off work to take Logan to Tanganyika. I love that place! Jennifer Cannady is going to have her c-section at 7 AM that morning (7 am on 8-9-10; yes, we’re a family of nerds) so I figured we could take Logan to Tanganyika at 9 AM, spend a couple of hours there, have lunch and then head to the hospital to visit mom and baby Quentin. The rest of Monday will be spent swimming at the pool and playing video games. (JC – Please don’t forget to pack swim trunks for Logan!)

Tuesday – Brian goes back to work, but I’ll still be off. This is the day we have to return Logan to his mom and dad. Booo! I might just catch up on work stuff in the afternoon after Logan is gone.

So there you have it. One heck of a busy week. Not much gym time, but if I can spend 30 minutes of my lunch break at the fitness center at work that should help a little. Have a wonderful week, everyone!
