Anniversary Plans

Brian and I just finalized our anniversary plans. We are celebrating on Saturday, August 14, by getting a couples massage from Healing Waters (something that we used to indulge in almost once a month but we have not been able to do lately), driving to Kansas City for some sushi at Kona Grill and dessert at The Cheesecake Factory and then spending the night at Sheraton Suites.
Brian wanted to stay at The Raphael again, but the $200 per night rate is just a bit much for us this time around. Sheraton Suites is located on the Northwest corner of Country Club Plaza so we will be on the other side this time. At about $130 for the night, the rate is pretty reasonable and we are still within a short walk from our favorite shops.
It seems like it’s ages away but August 14 is just around the corner! I’m totally excited already! Â

The Village

We went to see The Village today at 13th Avenue Warren. When we arrived, we saw Brian’s dad’s truck in the parking lot. Brian was like, “How much do you want to bet they’re also here to see The Village?” As we were walking up the balcony steps, we call his dad but there is no answer on his cellphone.
“Maybe they’re already in the middle of their movie?” I asked Brian. “Nah. I think they’re in A6 (the seat next to ours because we got A7).”
I guess they were short-handed because normally someone greets you and takes you to your seat right away. After several minutes of waiting, his dad comes walking out. Brian and I look at each other and bust up laughing as Dave confirms that they are, in fact, sitting in seat A6. It was a really funny coincidence!
The Village was pretty good. Not what most would expect but, if you have ever watched any other M. Night Shyamalan movie, you wouldn’t be surprised. His movies are kind of weird and seem to always have an unexpected twist at the end. This one was no exception. As always, it will make you think. Try not to think so hard, though, because I did and almost gave myself a headache doing so.

Erin’s Lingerie Shower

Erin’s lingerie shower at Yia-Yia’s went really well. Ashley did great in reserving that private room for us so we were free to talk about all sorts of things without being worried about offending any of the other restaurant patrons. With the doors closed, no one outside was the wiser. It was just us girls: Paige, Ashley, Erin, Kelly (Erin’s sister), Molly, Sarah, Savannah and myself.
The privacy worked especially great for the opening of gifts because, as you know, we all got lingerie stuff. I don’t know how that would have gone over with all the other prying eyes if we weren’t in the “special” private room.
Audra’s brother was our server. I didn’t know he was back in town. Many years ago he left for missionary work (they are Mormons) and that was the last I had seen or heard of him. I couldn’t remember his name to save my life so I didn’t say anything. I don’t know if he recognized me but he didn’t let on. I did recognize him, though.
I didn’t drink much (just one bellini, the rest of the time I drank water) so my bill wasn’t that bad considering Yia-Yia’s is kind of pricey. My bellini was $5 and my entreé was $15. With tax my total came to about $22 and then I wrote it for $30, leaving him an $8 tip. Not just because I knew him, but also because he was pleasant, patient and professional (the 3Ps of serving – LOL).
Of course, my damage was nothing compared to Ashley’s! Molly didn’t have enough cash and she didn’t have a debit card so between the two of them, they decided that Molly would just write Ashley a check and then Ashley would just include hers with her own tab. Ashley picked up Erin’s (the honoree) since she was the host. With three people on her tab, all huge drinkers, the damage was pretty bad. It could rival the WTC catastrophe.
It was all good and fun, though, so it was well worth any over-priced meal any day. After all, it’s not every day that your friend gets married.   Â

Peer Pressure

I’ve got a major dilemma. Ashley is planning this dinner and strip bar extravaganza for Erin and Jason before the their wedding.
The problem: Brian just absolutely hates strip bars. I figured that I could convince him to go, but it’s not working out too well. I’m thinking that he will go, if I insist, but he will be totally miserable. If we’re lucky, that’s all I’ll have to contend with. If we’re not, it may cause a lot of conflict between us.
To go or not to go, that is the question.
You’re probably thinking to yourself “The answer is clear, silly girl.” Don’t go. The more I ponder my conundrum, the more that I realize it’s the right thing to do. I should put Brian before anything or anyone else. He’s my husband, for crying out loud! I can’t just force him to do what I want to.. Besides, it’s not even something that I really want to do. Why risk conflict over it?
And you thought you wouldn’t have face peer pressure ever again after high school! We never can escape it. It’s all around us, in everything that we say and do..

Busy Week

I can already tell this will be a busy week. Work has been really hectic and we’ve got a lot of things going on besides the usual bumming around that we do. Brent invited us to come over and watch Starsky and Hutch sometime this week with him and Chelsea. We’ve got it coming through Netflix, but it may take some time because it says on their website that there’s a bit of a wait on that title. It would be nice to be able to just rent it and be done with so we can cross it off our movies-to-watch list.
We haven’t really done anything with Brent and Chelsea in a while because we have been really busy. I think, before last night, the last time the four of us had dinner together was at Felipe’s Jr a couple of weeks ago. And we didn’t even do anything. All we did was eat dinner.
We were supposed to watch Incubus in concert for Chelsea’s birthday on Sunday but the concert has been postponed. Brian and I ended up watching The Bourne Supremacy by ourselves because Brent and Chelsea aren’t that fond of Matt Damon. Afterwards, Brent and Chelsea met up with us at Johnny Carino’s. Brian bought dinner as part of Chelsea’s birthday present. We got her the Alice in Wonderland DVD because that’s what Brent said she wanted movie-wise. Either that or the second season of Invader Zim on DVD but we couldn’t find it.
I don’t know when we will be able to get with them to watch Starsky and Hutch. We’ve got lots of things going on this week. We’ve got the Keller-Williams patio/salsa party on Thursday night and then my old hair stylist Man’s (she used to work at Planet Hair) grand opening party for her new salon, Urban Image, on Friday night. For Saturday, I traded with Seth so I could attend Erin’s lingerie shower at Yia-Yia’s. So instead of working from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, I’m working 4:30 PM to 12:30 AM. It’s gonna suck, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Of course, Sunday is movie day. Brian and I will probably go see The Village. We’ve enjoyed M. Night Shyamalan’s other movies in the past (Unbreakable, Signs) so this might prove to be a good movie also.
Anyway, if you don’t see me post anything else this week, you know where to find me.
P.S. I did really well at poker last night. I placed 4th during the 1st session and then 3rd during the 2nd session! Usually, I do really well one session and then really crappy the other, but I did extremely well during both sessions last night. My poker skills must be improving! He! He! Â
