Making New Memories
Posted on July 3, 2010 by Ching under Family, Things to Do.
We had a blast at the Bradley Fair jazz concert and fireworks night on Thursday. We didn’t get the spot we wanted, though. Apparently, getting there at 5:30 pm is not early enough. We’ll be more prepared next year.

A Walk Down Memory Lane
Posted on June 28, 2010 by Ching under Family.
Here are some pictures of us from ten years ago.
We were celebrating Brian’s birthday, grandma’s birthday, and Father’s Day all at once. This was at the original Sumo location on North Rock Road before they moved. We lived on 32nd Street (just across the street from the restaurant at the time). It was quite convenient.
Grandma, grandpa and Brian’s brother Kevin.
Celebrating together has been a Brubaker family tradition for ages. Grandma is super proud of the fact that she and Brian have celebrated their birthdays together every year since the day he was born. They only missed twice and that’s when Brian was living in Memphis. Now that we’re all together in Wichita, the tradition continues.
It’s always fun celebrating with family.
My father-in-law, David.
I don’t even think he has this Hawaiian shirt anymore. Maybe Brian owns it now? He ends up with his dad’s hand-me-downs most of the time. LOL. =P
Brian, goofing around. Not much has changed over the last ten years. The only difference is that we were just dating then and we’re married now.
Brian definitely no longer has these shorts. I’m pretty sure it got donated to Goodwill several years ago.
He looked so young in this photo. This was the year he turned 26. He sure didn’t look like it. He looked like he was barely 21. =P
Of course, that was before he had a full head of gray hair.
He was such a cutie! Whatever happened to that guy? Just kidding, baby! I love you!

Ladder Golf Weekend
Posted on June 22, 2010 by Ching under Family, Wishlist.
We played a lot of ladder golf this weekend. =P
We played it at the Phelpi during their wiener party, where the Blue Bombers (Jay and Hal) reigned the entire time.
Everyone tried, but the Blue Bombers could not be stopped.
Ronnie (who I’m told is good at EVERYTHING) finally got them in the end, but it took him a while. He had to learn how to play and hone his technique.
Check out Jay, all serious-like. =P
Here’s Cory, half of Phelpi. Not sure if he’s the better or lesser half. =P
When it got too dark to play ladder golf, it was time for Apples to Apples.
After Apples to Apples they started a poker tourney, which I opted out of — I was super tired. I had been up since six o’clock in the morning. I zonked out sometime after midnight. It was two thirty in the morning by the time Brian and I got home. I can’t believe we spent nine hours at the Phelpi. (Of course, I spent the first hour to hour and a half making French fries.) I’m pretty sure we overstayed our welcome.
The ladder golf continued the next day at my mom and dad’s. We just couldn’t get enough of it! =P
There, Brian was the champion. He was undefeated until the very end.
We all tried to beat Brian in vain.
Dad finally got him in an epic battle to the finish.
The first match between Brian and dad ended up in a tie-breaker. Brian won the tie-breaker round pretty easily. I had to give him a hard time for not letting dad win. Not even on Father’s Day!
Dad, who is pretty competitive but tries to down play his competitiveness, played another round right after that one. It was the best rematch ever. They were head-to-head and toe-to-toe the entire time. They were only one point apart for the entire game, with one or the other taking turns being in the lead.
A couple of times, Brian would land his ball then dad would knock it off and land his ball and then Brian would knock dad’s ball off and then dad would knock Brian’s ball off. It was intense and super fun to watch.
I really like our portable ladder golf game. It’s super fun! The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s kind of flimsy. In fact, ours is broken already.
I prefer the wooden kind that we got dad for Christmas last year. It’s a lot sturdier.
When I have some extra money, I’m going to invest in the real deal. Then we can get rid of our cheap, generic ladder golf set. Then again, one of you guys could buy it for me for my birthday. (Hint! Hint!)

Family Time

Brian and I had dinner with his grandparents and parents at Cherry Creek on Thursday night. They had a clown who made animal balloons for everyone. It was a jolly good time!

Busy Saturday
Posted on June 13, 2010 by Ching under Family.
Brian and I had a busy Saturday. I skipped my workout because Brian wanted to sleep in and I didn’t want to drive myself to the Andover branch YMCA. Actually, I was being lazy as I have been with my workouts over the past week. Also, I wanted to get an early start. We planned on picking up Jennifer Teves at 11:30 am, but picked her up at 11:00 am instead. I’m glad that we started early because we ended up having to pick up Apple on the way to mom and dad’s as well.
Dwayne and Maryland were already there when the four of us arrived. It was a real treat to see baby Danika. It was the first time we’d seen her since her birth.
Zane has grown so much since we’d last seen him.
I got some good pictures, don’t you think?
Actually, I think these pictures are great even if I say so myself. =P
Brian was a little cranky and wasn’t feeling particularly sociable.
He wouldn’t even play ladder golf with us.
We finally managed to coax him outside later that afternoon.
We left just as Armando arrived from work. Brian and I left to meet his parents and grandparents at Freddy’s to celebrate Brian’s and grandma’s birthday.
In all the years of Brian’s life, he and his grandmother have always celebrated their birthdays together. The only years they missed were the two years when Brian was living in Memphis.
Brian got a new coin (to replace the one he lost) and also a new router.
The router was rather timely, too. We had been high-jacking our neighbor’s open wi-fi because, with the router and modem downstairs in the kitchen, our CPU and Blu-ray player in the office (Brian’s room) couldn’t connect to our own wi-fi network. Brian doesn’t like connecting to an open wi-fi, though, for security reasons. Now that the new router is in place, we’re connected to our own secure network.
As for Brian’s other gifts, I’ll let him share those with you all.
