I Miss Molly

Posted on January 24, 2009 by under Babies.

I started crying the other day after the plumber left. Maybe it was partly because we had just charged $7500 on the credit card, the most money we have ever spent on any one thing (excluding our cars and our house)… but it was mostly due to the overwhelming sadness I felt over not having Molly around anymore.

BRIAN: Why are you crying?

CHING: I’m sad.

BRIAN: Why? Because we just spent a lot of money?

CHING: I miss Molly.

BRIAN: I miss her, too.

CHING: You don’t understand. It’s like breaking up with a boyfriend who you love very much and aren’t ready to break up with yet. Then later you see him living happily ever after with someone else and you’re just heartbroken.

BRIAN: Usually, when I break up with people, it’s for a very good reason and I’m relieved not to be with them anymore… but I see what you’re saying.

Brian and I agreed that we could not have found a better home for Molly. Tita Sol is just fantastic. Tita Sol works part-time so she has more free time to spend with Molly. She cares for her very much and is doing all the things that we never had time to do like train her and show her how to do tricks. Molly is even getting expensive dog food, plenty of play time, and is having her hair brushed at night, every night, before bed. Molly has moved up.

Brian told me that he had a particularly rough day at work the other day and was just looking forward to coming home, picking up Molly and playing with her. I was thinking the same thing, how much I enjoyed hugging and kissing her after a stressful workday. She is just such a sweet and lovable dog. It made me realize that she gave us so much more than we had ever given her. I’m glad that she is with someone who can love and care for her more than we ever could. She deserves better than us.

Tita Sol seems happy with Molly, and Molly is obviously very, very happy with her new situation. I just wish that we could have provided that wonderful home for her instead of someone else.

Shoes are Easier to Find Homes For

Shoes are easier to find homes for… Cute little Yorkipoos? Not so much. We’ve been trying to find a home for Molly for the last year now. We thought we found a home for her several months ago with one of the groomers at PetSmart but, when we came over to see if her other two (much bigger) dogs would get along okay with Molly, one of the dogs bit her on the head. It wasn’t a playful bite either. It was one of those scary ones.

Actually, all seemed okay at first. The dogs were playing in the backyard and for the most part leaving Molly alone. One of the dogs was next to me and when Molly came to me, she just snapped. It was very, very weird. Like the dog had split personality or something. Molly whimpered and I found a reddish-pink scratch when I checked her head. The owner said that the other dog was just being over-protective of me. When Molly approached me, the other dog felt the need to defend. The other dog knew that she had done wrong because immediately after, she squeezed herself between my calves and tried to hide there. As if to say, “I’m sorry I tried to eat your little dog.”

Brian and I decided, despite how sweet the owner was and how well-meaning, this would not be the home for Molly unless we wanted her to be a chew toy for the other two dogs, which were easily six times her size. Months later, Molly is still with us and we are still searching for a new home for her. She is so tiny and sweet. We just don’t want her to get fed to some killer dogs. I have heard of that happening and it just really scares me.

Jenni came by yesterday to pick up these almost new, only worn once (if that) Steven by Steve Madden 4″ peep-toe pumps. I bought them and worn them out once, but they hurt my feet so I never wore them again. The bottoms are barely scuffed. I also gave her a 30-gallon trash bag full of 32A bras that I can no longer wear. These were from back in our credit card hey day, when I could spend $50 on a bra and not think anything of it. If only I would have saved that money, we could have paid for re-plumbing the house in cash. If only…

But I digress… Though the pumps are very cute, they’re not as cute as Molly; so it’s very sad that their re-homing was so much more easier to achieve. I guess you don’t have to feed and groom the shoes.

Anyway, maybe Jenni felt so grateful for the almost new shoes that match her clutch and will work fabulously with an outfit she plans to wear on a trip to Memphis that she told us she would help us find a good home for Molly. I hope that she is really serious and I hope she succeeds.

Is anyone out there looking for a cute, adorable, sweet dog? Please message us asap!

Sunny’s Christmas-slash-Cruise-Reunion Party

Brian loved this coaster so he stole one ~ with Sunny’s permission, of course. Actually, Brian didn’t realize it until Kurt pointed it out. Leave it up to Kurt to spot the cool, kitschy stuff.

Sunny and Scott were fantastic hosts. We had such a blast! (Except for the fact that I couldn’t breathe, which I will explain later.)

We ran into Sunny and Scott at Highlands on Friday night and they mentioned that they still had to do more shopping after poker. They weren’t kidding. They went all out. I think the highlight was when Santa came out (Scott in the miracle Santa suit ~ you’ll have to ask Sunny about this story) and started handing out gifts to everyone. They had a gift for every single guest! Holy crap! I had never been to party like that.

“These people are ballers,” I thought to myself. Although, the very nice house with very nice stuff should have tipped me off.

[ ASIDE: “Baller” is a word that I learned from my friend/coworker Angie a few months ago. I’d never been able to use it in a sentence before. I figured now is my chance. Brian picks on me because I don’t do slang well. I hope I used the word right. =P Or I could just avoid trying altogether because it just feels awkward and silly. ]

The funny thing is that they live right by us. Sunny had guests coming from all over so when she sent the email blast with directions, she gave the easy directions from 29th Street (like if you were coming off K96). Following those directions would have had Brian and I going around the neighborhood.

I recalled that I can get to Beacon Hill through the neighborhoods because when I decided to go the back way coming home from Jan’s house (she lives in Beacon Village behind Beacon Hill) one night, I took a wrong turn and ended up through Beacon Hill and coming out onto 29th Street. So anyway, I figured Brian and I could go the back way so I mapped a route for us through Google.

That’s when I realized how close their house is to ours. Except, of course, their house is in the nice Beacon Hill subdivision and ours is in the ghetto-ish no-name neighborhood behind Olde English Manor.

No wonder they’re always at Highlands! LOL.

We got to meet Sunny and Scott’s babies: Kirby, Eddie, and Oliver (shown in that order at the left).

Kirby is our favorite. He is just so lovable. They were all really well-behaved, though. They didn’t bark or yap (in Eddie’s case because Poms are typically yappers) at anyone.

As far as humans go, we met a lot of new people but there were also several familiar faces from the cruise. Bonnie, Roy, Steph, and Barry all came. Fellow Highlands regulars Vic and Jen were there. Kurt, Kathy, Shane, Jen, and Brent all came also. It was very much like a reunion.

I brought my cruise book, which I asked the poker cruise alums to sign. It totally reminded me of being in high school and asking classmates to sign your yearbook. I got almost everyone’s signatures, except for Steph and Barry who took off before I could get to them.

As for the non poker cruise alums, I think the most famous person we met was Sierra Scott. She’s a local celebrity who has her own TV show on KPTS. You might have heard of it. The show is called “It’s All Good.” It airs on Fridays at 8 PM, which is when we are at Highlands having dinner and playing poker, so I haven’t seen it. The show is good and heart-warming from what I hear. You guys will have to check it out.

Here is Sierra with Sunny…

Incidentally, that is my photo book she is holding. Poker cruise alum or not, maybe I should have asked her to sign it too? LOL.

More pictures from the party… Bonnie and Roy.

I could go on and on because I took quite a few photos. Click here to check them all out.

P.S. If you are looking for the sangria recipe, you can find it here.

P.P.S. I never did explain why I couldn’t breathe. A few minutes into the party, I started to have trouble breathing. It felt like there was a ton of bricks on my chest, obstructing my breathing. Actually, it felt a lot like when I had bronchitis a few weeks ago. It was really weird because it happened so suddenly with no warning whatsoever. Just in the middle of the party, I couldn’t breathe.

The illness left just as quickly as it came, though. It started on Saturday night and then continued to feel bad all day on Sunday and then I woke up better on Monday morning. I don’t know if my body just forced itself to feel better because I HAD to come to work on Monday or what. It could be the Advair, though. I was wheezing on Sunday so I used it. That seemed to work because it stopped the wheezing, AND I was better on Monday.

Cheating on Bebot

Can you believe this is my car’s engine compartment? Everything was so clean and shiny. Brian and I were really impressed. Eddy’s totally delivered on their promise to “thoroughly detail” my car. They were not joking. They cleaned Bebot inside and out.

It looked like they took all of our junk out, cleaned the car and then put our stuff back where they were. I know because things were moved around somewhat. The floors and interior had gotten dirty from leaves and dust and stuff and everything was spotless when we picked the car up. The car seriously looked better than the day we bought it. That’s a huge compliment considering the car was bought brand new.

Of course, it rained the other day so I only got to enjoy my clean, shiny car for a couple of days at best. Isn’t that always how it goes? LOL.

I did feel a little guilty, though, because we almost didn’t want to get our own car back. We really enjoyed driving and riding around in the ’08 Prius. It made me feel very eco-friendly. LOL.

I have always thought Priuses looked ugly. I’m not a big fan of the hatchback trunk and the compact body style. After you realize how much gas you’re saving (or how little gas it consumes), it kind of grows on you. Plus, I think it’s shorter than my car but the interior is far roomier. It is surprisingly spacious inside. We fit Brian’s parents in there with us and we all had plenty of leg room.

I like how quiet it is, the cute power button, the backup camera, the design of the interior compartments (efficient use of space), and the gas mileage (naturally). I am totally sold. I’m not not much of a car person, though. In fact, I know nothing about cars so Brian will probably be able to share a more informed, educated review of the vehicle. All I know is that our next car purchase (probably in 2010 when the Priuses are manufactured in the US and improve to 70-80 mpg) will likely be a Prius because we really like it a lot. [ SIDE NOTE: It’s a good thing we are not in the market for one right now because there is a seven-month waiting list at Eddy’s. ]

Here are some pictures of the one we got to drive last weekend:

Don't see Priuses at gas stations often.

Yeah, we put gas in it though we didn’t really need to… That’s because we are nice. We did put quite a lot of miles on it with all the driving all over town that we did. Brian and I guess that we could probably go to Kansas City and back on a half a tank. I kind of wish we still had it for our road trip tomorrow.
