I Love, Love, Love Getting My Old Clothes Back
Posted on February 11, 2012 by Ching under Outfits.
Jenni gave me back a couple of bustiers and a corset today. I think they are all at least ten years old. LOL. I’m still really happy to get them back, though. They all have sentimental value and stories behind them. Plus, I’m really glad that they fit me again. I never thought I would ever get small enough to fit in my old XS clothes, so that is quite an accomplishment! I love, love, love getting my old clothes back.
This floral bustier is one of the clothing items that I got back from Jenni today. It is memorable to me because I wore it on our very first cruise. That was when we went on a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.
The black lace bustier pictured on the left is Brian’s favorite. I wore it on our first anniversary. He didn’t think that Jenni would be willing to give it back and was super excited when he found out that she was returning it.
The red corset on the right I what I wore on our first Valentine’s Day tryst. At least that is what we both recall. LOL. Speaking of Valentine’s… The big day is just around the corner. Are you doing something special for your partner?
Last year we spent the weekend in Lawrence. This year we’re going to keep it low key. Maybe just a simple dinner somewhere. With our trip to Jamaica coming up, we really don’t have a lot of money to spend. Plus, we still have to do our taxes and we usually have to pay. Blech.

Weekend vs. Work Attire
Posted on January 10, 2012 by Ching under Outfits.
This is how I dress on weekends…
This is how I dress at work…
I prefer to dress pretty conservatively when I am at work, so I have clothes specifically for work and clothes for everyday life. There are some articles of clothing that can overlap (like cardigans and such), but in general these don’t mix. Even on our jeans days (when I can be more adventurous in my clothing choices), I stick to very strict dress rules. Thus, I have some jeans that I will never ever wear to work (e.g. ones that are distressed or worn-in or have holes, even if these are intentional because of the style).
Today I realized that I’m not alone in my wardrobe philosophy. Contrary to popular belief, “business casual” does not mean “anything but jeans.” I think sometimes people forget the “business” part. There is a clear distinction between “business casual” and “party casual” and “weekend casual” and there are other people (besides me) who can tell the difference. What a revelation! Now I don’t have to feel like such a nerd for dressing like a nerd at work. LOL.
Who cares if the people at work think I dress boring or lame? I can dress fun too, but you’ll have to come to Suede on a Friday night to see it. 😉

Bohemian Hippie Chic
Posted on December 21, 2011 by Ching under Outfits.
I put together this outfit using a smorgasbord of stuff. The long sleeved burnout shirt was one that I bought from the Amaze Boutique booth at Holiday Galleria. I got a little carried away and bought the same burnout shirt in black, gray and white also. I actually thought I bought a brown one, but must not have because I couldn’t find it in my closet when I was looking for something to wear under the crinkle dress. Brian said he actually likes the cream color, so I guess it worked out anyway.
Speaking of the dress, this is one that I had bought at Stephanie’s shopping party a few weeks ago. The Chic Street ladies came and brought their goods to Steph’s house so that we could have our own exclusive shopping experience. Brian actually hated this dress when he first saw it on the rack. He warmed up to it after I tried it on. I liked it a lot, specially since I don’t own anything else like it. I’m not quite sure what this style is called. I call it Bohemian. Brian calls it Hippie. Either way, I thought it went great with my old Colin Stuart lace-up riding boots that I got from Victoria’s Secret many, many years ago. My calves had gotten too fat for me to wear them, but I couldn’t give them away because they’re one of very few Italian made shoes that I own. That, and these are Brian’s absolute favorite boots out of all of the pairs I own. These were the boots that I wore to the Park City Poker Round Up in 2005 when I had a plaid school girl skirt on. I’m really glad that I decided to hang on to them because now they fit again!

Employees Association Holiday Party

On Saturday I broke in another new pair of jeans. These are one of my new size 0s that I got from Express a few weeks ago. I had recently gotten them back from Quick Stitch, where I had them hemmed. It sucks to be short! Nothing ever fits exactly right.
The jeans were new, but the black drapey tank is actually old. I got it from Express a couple of years ago. It’s stretchy so it still fits. I think it just fit tighter before. I’m my standby for whenever I don’t know what else to wear.
I busted out my Classic Hardware retrolite cherry earrings and necklace because I thought the red and green combination looked festive. For those unfamiliar with retrolite, it’s made of poly-resin and is similar to the old bakelite jewelry from the 1920s. I take advantage of opportunities to wear my cherry retrolite stuff because I can never wear them to work. They are too funky for my usual conservative (read: boring) work attire.
For outerwear I busted out my old, red XS (trying to be festive) pea coat from Abercrombie & Fitch. It’s still in good shape for being at least seven years old. I’m so glad I didn’t get rid of it because it fits again!
I also wore the gray and black scarf that Jan gave me for my birthday. She got it from Carla’s Love It at Bradley Fair. It’s one of Jan’s favorite stores and I’ve still never been there. Maybe I will go check it out over Christmas vacation. They’ve got this coupon for $10 OFF that’s good until Saturday. Anyone want to go with me? Mom? Jenni? Jan?
Anyway, here are some of our pictures from Saturday night.
This is Jan’s friend Marla.

I thought it was funny that Amy tried to convince her husband Shawn that this was another “tacky sweater” party. He didn’t buy it, though. Although, there were several people wearing sweaters that would have qualified. LOL. I don’t think they thought their sweaters were “tacky” though, so don’t tell anyone I said anything. I’m sure they thought their attire was just really, really festive.
It was a packed house. They managed to squeeze several parties in that same night.
This was my first time at Mosley Street Melodrama.
I really enjoyed myself. Brian got a kick out of the local jokes.
I’m trying to talk Brian into getting us season passes because the 2012 line up looks really promising. I really want to see “The Dukes of Haysville or the Hazzards of Going Down South… of Wichita” and “East Side/West Side Story” and “The Bel-Aire Witch Project” and the other shows sound good too, actually. We get to save $20 each by getting season passes so it’s just like getting free admission for one show. You know how I am about deals! LOL.
I can’t believe I’d never been to Mosley Street Melodrama before! I’ve really been missing out! We need to get a group together for the next show!

Casual Friday
Posted on December 20, 2011 by Ching under Outfits.
I love Fridays because it’s usually the only day we can wear jeans at work. Unless we’re doing fundraising. Until recently I only had one or two pairs of jeans that fit me properly. Now I have a few so I’m starting to really enjoy jeans days. It’s so much easier to throw on a nice blouse and pair of black jeans. Last Friday I paired a shimmery Ann Taylor shell with my freshly tailored dark Express jeans and wore a black blazer. It was casual, but still suitable for work. What do you guys think?
I thought it transitioned from daytime to evening well, which was something that I had to consider as we had dinner plans with Carla and Paul that night. Brian and I were both busy and didn’t really have time to change after work. I think the outfit was versatile enough for both work and dinner. I was pleased with the outcome.
