Thanks for Invading My Shower Space
Posted on August 3, 2012 by Ching under Confessions, Relationship.
A couple of minutes into my shower this evening, Brian comes up, taps on the door, and asks, “Can I rinse off?”
“Umm… Sure,” I say.
“Can I brush my teeth?” he asks as he steps into the shower.
“Uh, okay.” I think I gave him a look because he goes, “What?”
“If you wanted to shower with me you should have just asked. Thanks for invading my personal shower space.”
“Well, if you wanted to shower by yourself you should have said so.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at this preposterous statement, but he’s right. I’d almost forgotten how weird we are, and was reminded just then. We always shower together. And when I say always, I mean it. I don’t think Brian has showered by himself for over a year. (Brian just corrected me and said it has been several years.)
So showering together is the norm for us. Whereas the norm would be showering separately and asking to shower together on occasion for other couples. If he’s in the shower, I’m going to be in there showering with him pretty much 100% of the time. If I’m in the shower, he’s probably going to shower with me about 95% of the time. So he’s right. It’s pretty much assumed that we’re showering together unless I specify otherwise beforehand.
Anyway, I figured that I would have the shower by myself today because I wanted to shave my legs. It’s been a month since I’d done it. Don’t even start. I know it’s weird, but I really hate shaving (that’s why I had laser hair removal done on my underarms and get waxed everywhere else). I don’t even shave my legs in the winter unless I absolutely have to. Thankfully, it doesn’t bother Brian. He said that you can’t really tell. I think it starts to bother me before he even notices, but it usually doesn’t start to bug me for at least a couple of weeks. But I digress… I’ll remember to tell him ahead of time if I want the shower to myself next time.

I’ll Never Lose These Last 10 Lbs
Posted on July 19, 2012 by Ching under Confessions, Health, Reviews.
This is why I’ll never be able to lose the last ten pounds that I need to lose. We can’t stop eating out!
On the plus side, we are the #2 food blog in Wichita (just behind Chain Free Eating) and #3 in all of Kansas (just behind Roadtrips and In Pursuit of Pork). Woot!
If I’m going to be fat, at least I’m fat for a reason. Ha ha ha ha!

You Can Learn Anything Through YouTube
Posted on July 11, 2012 by Ching under Confessions, Health, Videos.
I have a confession to make. I don’t know how to swim. Brian and I had the pool to ourselves on Friday night, so we took advantage of the opportunity for him to teach me how to swim. Wanna know how he did it? He did it by showing me a video on YouTube kind of like the one below.
This is proof that you can learn anything through YouTube. LOL.
When Jay and Misty were hanging out with us at the pool on Sunday and I was telling Jay about Brian teaching me how to swim, Jay argued that I actually knew how to swim already since I can float backwards, dog paddle and tread water. I told him I knew enough not to drown, but I didn’t know how to “swim” swim. He said that not drowning is swimming. If I didn’t know how to swim then I would drown. He explained that I didn’t know how to “freestyle” or do other swimming strokes, but that I actually knew how to swim.
I never had formal swimming lessons though (unless you count Brian showing me a video of a guy swimming on YouTube as a swimming lesson), and my idea of swimming is actually doing specific strokes. Not just treading water or dog paddling or floating backwards, which is something that I do when I get worn out.
Anyway, I need some more practice but I’m pretty sure that I’ll know how to swim for real by the end of summer. Not swimming in the way that Jay thinks, but really swimming like being able to freestyle and stuff. I’m super excited. I can’t wait to be able to swim laps. I hear it’s pretty good exercise.

Couples Who Read Together, Stay Together
Posted on April 5, 2012 by Ching under Confessions, Relationship.
Zumba used to be the thing that I most looked forward to in my day. Of late, my most favorite part of the day is bedtime because I get to read to Brian. I really enjoy reading to him before bed, and I’m glad that he enjoys having me read to him. My need to read to someone aloud is a need I didn’t even realize I had until Brian started letting me do it. He finds this funny because he didn’t realize that my need to read aloud was a need that needed fulfilling. I really look forward to crawling into bed at the end of the day and reading to him. It’s almost therapeutic.
When we finished Ender’s Game a few weeks ago, we were trying to decide what we should read next. Having watched The Hunger Games
and thoroughly enjoying it, we decided that we would read the series together. So that’s what we’re reading now.
I can read pretty fast so I was thinking that I could probably finish it in one day. Even aloud, the chapters are only taking about 20 minutes. I’m only reading a chapter a night before Brian’s ready for bed. I’m guessing it will take us a while to finish the book; which is a bummer because I’m ready to read the next book already (possibly because I’ve already seen the movie and know what happens next). Oh, well.
So what about you guys? Is there something (anything) that you and your partner enjoy doing together? Brian and I are probably pretty abnormal in that we enjoy doing everything together. We like to watch movies, play poker, and travel together. As a matter of fact, Brian absolutely hates traveling without me. Now we can add reading to this list. About the only thing he doesn’t like doing with me is Zumba. So what about you? What’s on your list?

Not Your Typical January 1
Posted on January 2, 2012 by Ching under Confessions.
While everyone else was sleeping off their hangovers yesterday morning, Brian and I were wide awake. We both got up early and put in a few hours of work.
We have this Filipino superstition that what you’re doing on the first of the year is what ends up happening the rest of the year. For instance, if you’re broke on the first of the year, then it’s going to be a really rough year. If you’re having fun on the first of the year, then it’s going to be a really fun year. LOL.
Our tradition has always been to have sex either at midnight or sometime on January 1 to ensure that we have a good, active, happy sex life the rest of the year.
Last year, we were stuck in Las Vegas on January 1 and all of our travels the rest of the year were wrought with mishaps just as our superstition foretold. Remember how I got stuck in Atlanta a couple of months ago? When we got back from the East Coast this summer, we almost got stranded in Kansas City when our car wouldn’t start. When Brian was coming home from New Hampshire, Wichita got hit with a crazy storm and they wouldn’t let their plane land. The plane circled several times until they were almost out of gas. They finally had to get rerouted to Oklahoma City for refueling. Then they had to wait for a different pilot. I was stuck waiting for him at the Wichita airport for at least five hours, not knowing what was going on or what to expect. I think the only trip that went according to plan was Brian’s trip to Vegas for the SAP conference. But that’s because he did some serious reconnaissance. Not only did he have a Plan B, he had a Plan C and Plan D just in case. LOL.
This year we wanted to ensure that we had a productive work year so we both go up early on January 1 and decided to do some work. If our superstition holds, we should be getting up early and should be productive the rest of the year.
We also both made it a point to go to the gym. I did my usual Sunday Zumba fitness class with Amie and then Brian came and joined us for an intense ab workout after class. We’re hoping that by working out on the first day of year, we will continue our focus on our health and fitness throughout 2012.
That night we went to the Cole’s residence for movie night. We watched the movie 2012 on the first day of 2012. How fitting, right?
The one thing we made sure to avoid was shopping. We didn’t want to start the year off spending money because we wanted 2012 to be a year of saving. We did buy pizzas at Papa Murphy’s, but I don’t think food counts unless we don’t plan on eating the rest of the year.
Last year was really fun and was a really great year for us all the way around, but it was also a very expensive year. We made some really good investments by switching gyms and getting some personal training to really focus on our health and fitness and we’ve had some really good results, but we spent a lot of money on BS also. I guess we really didn’t have a choice but to replenish our wardrobe after we both shrank in size significantly. Now that we have all the clothes that we need and are pretty much at the size that we want to be (I still want to lose 10 more pounds, though), we’re determined not to spend any more money. We have to save, save, save for that mortgage down payment (specially since we actually lost money on our first house).
So there you have it. That’s how we spent the first day of the new year. We actually got up early again this morning. Brian set our usual alarm because we wanted to get up as though we were going to work today. Figured this way, we won’t be sluggish when we both report back to work tomorrow.
I’m really excited for what this year will bring. Barring any disasters like the world ending etc. I think it’s going to be an amazing year that is even better than the last. Happy New Year, everyone!
