Post Zumba-Fest Dinner
Posted on June 13, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink.
Brian, Jeri, Jeri’s husband Martin, Hideki, and I went to Wasabi for dinner after the outdoor Zumba class at the Wichita River Festival block party on Saturday night. I don’t know if it was the hunger or the heat, but I was a little cranky that night. I felt fine after the food came out, though.
I think it was Jeri and Martin’s first time there. We recommended our favorites: stone henge and shrimp tempura crazy roll. We also had some edamame and crab cakes to start. I love the crab cakes at Wasabi because they have a little kick. Not spicy, but just enough to set them apart from the usual crab cakes at other restaurants.
Our server was really nice and comped the edamame. I think he felt bad because we sat and waited for a long time before being helped. The restaurant was abnormally busy that night. Possibly due to Riverfest, which I’m sure brought a lot of people downtown. I think they had a combination of post block party and pre fireworks diners. Our server was pretty good, though. He did his best to take care of us despite the busy night they were having. And, of course, the food is always delicious.
We had a good time at dinner, enjoying some tasty sushi while visiting with Hideki, Jeri, and Martin. They were great dinner companions. We should totally do that again some time!

Usuluteco El Salvadorean Restaurant
Posted on June 11, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink, Reviews.
Brian and I tried a new restaurant over the weekend. We’d heard so many good things that we just had to try it. It’s El Salvadorean. Our server spoke to me only in Spanish so I ordered in Spanish. Apparently, I made a face, so Brian got worried and asked what was going on. I told him it was a surprise. Well, that wasn’t the right thing to say because it freaked him out even more. He insisted on knowing exactly what was going on. So I explained that when I asked for water, she asked me if I wanted pineapple or tamarind. I made a face because I was confused about the flavors. That would make it juice, not water. She said it was delicious and that I would like it so I picked pineapple, as Brian has had pineapple juice before and liked it. He’s never had tamarind before. Anyway, I think the pineapple water is pretty popular because I saw the same thing being delivered to people at the other tables.
I thought the pineapple water was awesome. Brian didn’t like it as much. It had chunks of fresh pineapple so it’s a lot like pulpy orange juice. Brian doesn’t like pulp. I felt bad but, at the same time, figured there’d be more of the yummy pineapple water for me to drink. LOL.
Brian ordered the papusas con todo. Con todo means it’s filled with everything: meat, beans, and cheese. Brian said it was delicious, but could have used more meat filling.
I had the fried tilapia with rice and beans. I believe it was the special for the day. I love, love, love tilapia so I was super thrilled to find it on the menu. It was good, but I couldn’t help but wish I had some soy sauce for dipping.
I really liked Usuluteco. It seemed very authentic. The only downside for me is the location. It’s so far away. Then again, that’s a good thing. Otherwise, Brian would be eating out there more frequently, and well know that we shouldn’t be eating out so much. LOL.

Tres Leches at Sabor
Posted on June 10, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink.
And the trend of poor eating continues at Sabor where we celebrated Marielkis’ birthday. I’m pretty sure that, besides blowing our alcohol and bar budget for the month, we’ve also blown our food and restaurant budget already. LOL.
We had fun celebrating with Marielkis and her friends, though. We met some really cool people the other night. And, I got to practice speaking some Spanish, which was a huge bonus.
Sabor has been a favorite of ours for several years. It’s not as great as when Chef Jason was there, but it’s still one of the best restaurants in Wichita. It’s a great place for a date or dinner with with friends. We had our favorites the other night: platanutres, sancocho soup with fire roasted chicken (super yummy), adobo pork with both orange garlic mojo and fiery habañero mojo, and tres leches. The tres leches at Sabor is super delicious. I’m sure it’s really bad for you (health wise), but it’s not to be missed. Just share it with someone so you don’t feel as guilty. Brian and I shared a slice, but I think I ended up eating most of it. LOL.
Feliz cumpleaños a Marielkis! Thanks for inviting us to celebrate your day with you!

More Food Pics – Thai House
Posted on June 10, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink, Reviews.
We’ve been really bad this month. Brian and I haven’t done groceries, so there’s nothing to take to work for lunches. I was thinking that we could just pick something up from Walkway Cafe, the cafeteria that’s inside our building, but Brian suggested Thai House at the last minute. I love Thai House, so I immediately agreed. I called in the order, and he went to pick it up.
Brian got his favorite, #12. It’s Thai-style fried rice with chicken. He ordered it mild to medium, but it tasted more like medium to me. I’m a pansy, though.
I used the opportunity to try #11, Lad Nha Thai House. The last time we were there, one of the other customers was eating it and it looked delicious. He actually let me take a picture of his food.
The dish is served with noodles so it looks like the dish pictured above. Mine looks different because I asked for it with rice instead of noodles. What can I say? I love eating rice. I’m sure it’s equally delicious either way.
The next thing I want to try is #17, Khao Lad Nha Kai. It’s chicken, mushroom, bamboo shoots, and assorted vegetables stir-fried together and served over rice. It sounds like something I would enjoy eating so I’ve decided that it’s what I be ordering on our next trip to Thai House.
Their yellow curry, #23, is not as good as Thai Tradition’s but I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve had so far. Plus, with almost everything priced around $6.35, Thai House offers a great value. It’s an excellent option if you’re wanting something good, quick, and relatively inexpensive. I highly recommend Thai House for those of you who haven’t tried it yet.

Can’t Wait Till My New Boombox Arrives
Posted on June 10, 2012 by Ching under Things to Do, Zumba.
Speaking of service anniversaries, I got 30,000 service award points for 10 years of service and 10 years of safety. Unlike Darcy who is saving all of her points for a house (inside joke), I opted to use my points towards a CD/DVD boombox. With the ubiquity of iPods and such, I had no idea that companies still made those. Did you?
Anyway, I’m super excited to get my boombox as, now that I can bring my Zumba music wherever I go, this brings me one step closer to the Zumba flash mob I’ve always dreamed of… LOL!
