Shoot ‘Em Up

Please don’t be misled by the categorization of this blog entry. Shoot ‘Em Up is by no means a family-oriented movie. Actually, I would not wish the movie upon anyone — adults or children alike. I have no idea why this movie didn’t just go straight to DVD. It was completely pointless and completely stupid and void of any actual acting talent. Paul Giamatti wasn’t too bad, but everyone else was horrible.
I enjoy a good action flick just like the next guy, but the movie has to be at least somewhat believable. Look at The Italian Job, the Bourne series.. These are good action films. Heck, even Grindhouse is good compared to Shoot ‘Em Up. Brian disagrees. He thought Grindhouse was really campy. I argue that it is supposed to be campy so it actually succeeds at achieving it’s objective. In Shoot ‘Em Up, I have no idea what their objective is.. It’s like an action movie that is comedic, but unintentionally so. Some of the scenes are so stupid and unbelievable that it’s funny. However, that’s not actually the goal of the movie so it fails its purpose. I think the critics were overly generous for giving it a C+ mark. Anyway, here are some pictures of last night’s outing..
These were pictures from dinner at Freddy’s last night. Freddy’s has the best burgers in Wichita.
The highlight of the evening was playing Time Crisis in the game room.
It was a relief when the movie finally ended. It was suffering unlike any other.
P.S. I ran into an old schoolmate, Erica Hickerson (formerly Oborny), on Friday at Bagatelle. I can’t believe she recognized me twelve years later. I think the most hilarious thing about our exchange was that when I told her my last name is now Brubaker she goes, “You married Kevin?” Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! I told Brian that story and he found it hilarious also.
Kevin and I belonged to the same graduating class at Derby High School but I never knew him. Actually, I didn’t know anyone. I was kind of loner. Which is why I wasn’t really heartbroke about missing the ten year reunion. Brian and I were gambling at Harrah’s that weekend for our anniversary. I figured it would be far more fun to do that than to catch up with people who I barely knew me and I barely knew.
Here’s Erica and her hubby at the reunion..
Of course, had I known Erica would be there I might have actually attended. She is one of the nicest people in the world. She actually invited me to a couple of things. Anyway, I gave her my card so hopefully she’ll keep in touch.
