Pot-Smoking Experience Required

Posted on May 9, 2006 by under Life.

I took a couple of hits off my Albuterol inhaler last night to show Brian my technique.  It was clumsy and awkward and I really don’t know how much medicine is reaching my lungs because I don’t think I’m doing it right.  Brian tried to show me how to do it and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

“How do you know how to do this when you’ve never had to use an inhaler before either?” I wondered.  Then it dawns on me.  He used to smoke weed.

“Are you kidding me?”  He said, “These are the same inhalers that people who have asthma use.  We used to steal these all the time.  Albuterol is great with weed.”  Spoken like a true pot-smoking expert.

I never thought that not having had the experience of smoking pot would hurt me in the future.  I’ve always been proud of the fact that I’ve never ever tried it and never had the desire to, but I think pot-smoking experience would’ve been helpful in this situation.  Heck, even cigarette-smoking experience would be helpful!  I think my main problem is that I don’t know how to inhale.  Of course, using the inhaler requires some coordination too — which I don’t have.

At any rate, the lesson here is all life experiences are helpful.  Good or bad, you’re probably going to use those skills at some point in your life.  If I was a smoker (cigarettes or otherwise), then I’d probably know how to inhale properly and not waste a single drop of medicine.  Then again, if I was a smoker I’d probably have more health problems.

Okay, that just ruined my moral lesson.  Let’s try again.  Let me say this, all life experiences are helpful, and let’s just leave it at that.
