The Oread
Posted on October 13, 2010 by Ching under Things to Do, Travel.
I have to share pictures of this hotel in Lawrence, Kansas because it is probably the coolest place I’ve ever stayed at in a while.
All of the rooms have 50″ hi-def TVs and luxurious linens. I absolutely love that they give tons and tons of pillows. I always want extra pillows and rarely ever get it. This time I got almost a dozen pillows without even asking for them because they’re in every guest room. LOL.
I love the huge shower! (I think Carmen got a fabulous tub in her room.)
The hotel has several cool terraces.
And several restaurants.
And several patios.
This is the view from the fifth floor terrace.
There are great spaces inside as well, so you can lounge around inside if it’s too cold or too hot to be outdoors. It’s just a really neat hotel overall.
Other things about the hotel that I liked besides the enormous TV and extra pillows are the high ceilings and ceiling fans. I’d never stayed in a hotel room with a ceiling fan before. The rooms are just really big and spacious and luxurious.
I also liked the Lemon Bliss Spa located at the hotel. Their prices are really reasonable. I really, really liked The Oread. I’m thinking of taking Brian there for a spa retreat next Valentines Day. What do you guys think? Do you think Brian will love it?

Fall is Officially Here
Posted on October 13, 2010 by Ching under Life.
We moved Chi-Chi inside the house a couple of weeks ago because it has gotten too cold outside. There is a lady at work who ships her plants off to a nursery to be “baby sat” or boarded every winter. I’m not sure how much that costs, but it sounds expensive. Since Brian and I are cheap, we’ve decided to move Chi-Chi inside and just hope for the best. With any luck, she’ll come back better than ever next year.
BTW, the geraniums and celosias didn’t make it. They were all dead when we came back from Dallas. We’ll have to buy some new ones next year and try harder to keep them alive.
Penelope is doing well, but her blooms have fallen off. I don’t think she’ll bloom again until next year probably. If I’m lucky. I think we need to move her to another container/pot and get some more wood chips, though. That way she can flourish. I need to learn more about caring for orchids since I like them so much.
By the way, the Kansas Orchid Society‘s fall show is coming up. It will be on November 6 and 7 at the Botanica. Admission is FREE.
I still can’t believe it’s already fall. At least we’re having some nice weather. Have a wonderful rest of the week!
xoxo,
Ching

October 12 is an Important Day
Posted on October 11, 2010 by Ching under Life.

The gifts for the grandparents are wrapped and ready to go. One is for Brian’s grandfather whose birthday is on the 12th. The other is an anniversary present for both grandma and grandpa because they were married on October 12 as well. I think grandma did this on purpose so that grandpa would never forget their wedding anniversary. Brilliant, right?
Anyway, we just need to figure out when we can drop the presents off because we’re not able to join them for dinner. I have therapy tomorrow night. 🙁

Unboxing Ching’s New Computer
Posted on October 10, 2010 by Ching under Toys.
Brian got to do the honors.
We can be so impulsive sometimes. So my laptop crashed and we couldn’t get it to work and we figured it was toast. What did we do? We ordered a replacement from Dell, naturally.
This reminds me of when we decided to buy a Bowflex out of nowhere several years ago. That was one heck of an impulse buy. We ended up making payments on that thing for years, long after the novelty wore off and we quit using it, which wasn’t really very long to be honest. I think we were paying for that thing ten times longer than we actually used it. When we moved out of our old house, we just ended up giving it to mom and dad because we no longer had room for it.
Anyway, we bought a new laptop only to find that my old laptop is fine. It just needed a little breather. Jay and Becca came over one night to pick up a Bed Bath and Beyond coupon, drank some wine, and ended up staying for a couple of hours. Jay took a look at my laptop and was able to revive it within a few minutes. He’s brilliant like that.
I’m still on my old laptop, though, because I haven’t had time to move all of my stuff over to the new laptop. Jay is buying this old laptop from us when we are both ready. I’ll probably leave the software that’s already installed like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office, etc. but I’ll need to clean out information about my Swiss bank accounts, all of my hidden albums and other naughty stuff. LOL.

Our Weekend with Molly
Posted on October 10, 2010 by Ching under Babies, Videos.
We had the opportunity to watch Molly over the weekend a couple of weeks ago. Tita Sol went to Nebraska and needed someone to look after Molly while she was away. We immediately jumped at the chance. I didn’t have to take time off work this time around because we only had to watch her over the weekend, but we did cancel all of our plans so that we could spend all of our time with Molly.
We picked her up from Tita Sol’s house on Friday right after work. We’d recently started Salsa Fridays, but we had to skip this week so that we could hang out at home with Molly. Our friends wanted us to come out on Saturday night, but we told them that we couldn’t because we had Molly and we didn’t want to leave her at home. Not that we’re worried that she would destroy anything because she is the sweetest, most well-behaved, most perfect dog ever. We just didn’t want her to be lonesome.
We get made fun of quite a bit because every time we watch Molly, we make all of these plans to take her out and show her a good time or just hang out at home with her. We can’t help it, though. She’s like our child. If you have your child for the weekend, don’t you want to spend every waking moment with them?
So anyway, we made plans to take Molly for a walk along the river. Misty and her two dogs were going to walk with us also. It rained though, so that nixed our plans. Our friends wanted us to come out to celebrate April’s birthday, but we couldn’t leave Molly. Somehow they ended up deciding to celebrate at home. Cory and April were nice enough to let us bring Molly so that we could go.
We had a great time at the Phelpi, celebrating April’s birthday. We ended up having a small six-person poker tournament, which I ended up winning. I think it was because everyone was drunk but me. Yes, including Brian. Ever since he learned he can drink wine, he hasn’t been without. He was a source of amusement for Jay, and I suspect everyone else that night. I was a little worried, but did find it hilarious. He reminded me of that kid on YouTube who was acting high after a dental visit.
We stayed up way too late that night. I think I ended up skipping my Sunday workout that weekend. Mostly because I was tired from the day before, but also because I knew that we’d be taking Molly home that night and I wanted to spend as much time as I could with her.
We really love having Molly over. I can’t wait for us to watch her again!
