New Wireless
Posted on July 22, 2009 by Brian under Web.
We have been suffering through slow wireless for many years now. Our Wireless B was so old that it was not even capable of 128-bit encryption. I was trying to talk Ching into getting something better because we were not taking full advantage of our Internet Service capabilities, but she was not seeing it. She was instead trying to lower our Service to match our current equipment. I told her that if we upgraded our wireless then it would make our VPN’s work faster and we could work from home a lot better. Especially since she is on call with her work so often.
The other day we got lucky. Ching’s Dad e-mailed her and let her know that he had a wireless router that we could have because he was upgrading. I told Ching that this would be good because we could then speed up our wireless and get better connection speeds. She agreed and I picked up the router today after work.
After about an hour of being frustrated and calling my dad for advice I finally got the router reset and working. I had to wait for it to associate with all the proper channels but once it did it worked perfectly. I set it up like we had the other one and then grabbed my laptop to test the wireless. I was so pleased to see that my computer connected quickly and without any problem.
While I was finishing the set up on my laptop Ching messaged me and let me know she was on Google chat and wanted to Video chat with me. This was a perfect opportunity to test the new wireless and make sure that the connection was indeed faster. I was ecstatic to see that the video was crisp and almost seamless. While I was talking to Ching I decided to try out Hulu. I was very pleased when I saw that the video loaded in 480 HD without any delay and I didn’t have to pause it every few min to let the video buffer enough to watch it.
Ching said that she can not wait to get home to test the new Wireless out. I set up my work lap top and tested out the VPN. It connected immediately and I was able to down load my e-mails almost instantly. Before I had to wait almost 15 min to let Outlook connect and pull the mail from the server. This is going to make working from home so much easier for both of us. The only issue I have at the moment is that I can not seem to get Ching’s work laptop to connect and I can not figure out why. I worked on it for almost an hour before I gave up. I will work with Ching tomorrow to get it working. I know her laptop is Wireless-G capable, I checked the properties. The only thing I can think of is that her work laptop has some special security that I am not aware of that she needs to work around.
To sum it all up. I am very pleased with the performance and I hope that we can get Ching’s work laptop up and running.

Ural Motorcycles
Posted on July 19, 2009 by Brian under Toys, Wishlist.
Today Ching and I watched this movie “Eastern Promises”. It was a really good movie and I thought Vigo Mortensen did a good job in his role.
However, I was completely taken by this Motorcycle that one of the lead characters was riding. It was called a Ural and is made in Russia. I know that everyone is rolling there eyes right now and thinking “Russia, it must be crap”. Quite the opposite actually. I found out that these Motorcycles are actually quite good and reliable. I have been looking into them and they are used quite a bit on Safari expeditions and forest outings because they have side cars and 2 wheel drive.
This bike is my favorite is the Sahara (pictured below).
This bike just looks tough. It has the 2wd option and a lot of cool extras that make it look like its ready to just jump off the road and into the outback.
If I were to come into some money I think this would definitely be one of the first things that I bought.

Feeding the Ducks
Posted on July 19, 2009 by Ching under Things to Do.
I forgot to share these pictures of Brian and I feeding the ducks at Sedgwick County Park yesterday. We pretty much spent the entire day at the West side of town. It makes me want to live out West.
Brian went with me to my waxing appointment at Beau Monde and then we decided to go to the park to feed the ducks before meeting Tita Sol for lunch. Speaking of Tita Sol, we are going to have to take her out to a nice dinner (we are thinking Bone Fish) because she keeps insisting on buying whenever we eat together. It makes me feel really bad whenever she does it because there’s two of us and only one of her. If anyone should be buying lunch, it should be us. She says it is just her way of showing how much she appreciates us giving her Molly. Truthfully, it’s the other way around. We really owe her because we could not take care of Molly as wonderfully as she does.
Anyway, April called for help (she accidentally locked her keys in the car at the YMCA East parking lot) while we were at lunch with Tita Sol at Jimmy’s Egg West. Cory has a spare key, but he was at work. We live right next to T-Mobile so we would have been the best option to just pick up the key from Cory and drive to the gym and bring it to her. However, since we were all the way out West that day and in the middle of lunch with Tita Sol, we were too far away to be of any use. Thankfully Brian’s mom was available and she came to the rescue.
We planned on going to the zoo after lunch with Tita Sol. Figured that we aren’t often on the West side of town, might as well make the most of it. The zoo was fun but, as I mentioned in the previous post, way too crowded.
We ended our day by stopping by to see Sunny and Scott at the Baskin Robbins (North of New Market Square). Sunny had a remote there that day. It was the perfect excuse to eat some ice cream. Brian bought a scoop of something chocolatey. I was a little piglet and ordered two scoops of the Mango Tango. I really should’ve only gotten one scoop because I couldn’t finish mine. 🙁
We had a lot of fun yesterday. Brian said that the zoo was fun, but the highlight of the day for him was feeding the ducks. We will have to do that again. Maybe we can invite Tita Sol and Molly for a picnic at the park next time. Molly would go absolutely nuts around the ducks. Anyway, click here to see the rest of the pictures we took.

Sedgwick County Zoo Pictures
Posted on July 18, 2009 by Ching under Flickr, Things to Do.
It had been almost five years since our last trip to the zoo. We went on September 24, 2004. It was my first trip to the zoo ever. It was really nice because there weren’t a lot of people that day. Brian and I pretty much had the zoo to ourselves. We were able to take some great pictures as a result. Here are the photos from our first zoo outing:
This time around we decided to go because the weather forecast was favorable. I also heard on the radio that you could get in for only $2. Great weather and discounted admission — it was perfect!
The downside was that the reason for the cheap admission is that it’s B98 (one of the local radio stations) listener appreciation day. Everyone and their uncle was at the zoo. It wasn’t as bad walking around outside, but once you got into the various exhibits it got really crowded. Taking good pictures was a huge challenge. We did our best, though, all things considered.
Here are the pictures from today’s zoo trip:
Now that we have seen the penguins, gorillas and tigers, we are all caught up. We won’t need to visit the zoo again for another few years. LOL.
