Movies

Posted on October 23, 2004 by under Movies.

Went to Red Robin last night.  Had some dinner.  Was just going to drink (I’m hooked on sand in your shorts, it’s a drink that tastes like sex on the beach at most places only yummier) but then I was afraid I’d get hungry later in the evening so I went ahead and ordered a Royal Red Robin.  They make the best burgers ever!

Our movie (I Heart Huckabees) didn’t start until 10:10 PM so we went and played some Galaga after dinner.  I took some pictures.  You’ll see them in my Flickr album.  I was photo-blogging but the posts went to Nick’s blog.  I’ve got my Flickr set to send photo-blog posts here instead from now on.

Anyway, Brian hated the movie.  He just didn’t get it.  Actually, I didn’t really know what it was about at first.  Scott, our IT guy, told me about it.  I watched the preview online.  It’s got my favorite people: Jude Law, Mark Wahlberg and Naomi Watts (who looked really hot in the movie btw – until she had an epiphany and decided to start dressing like an amish farmer) so I figured it couldn’t be bad.  It’s one of those weird movies that make you think so it was right up my alley.  So maybe Brian (who hated and :fell asleep through: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) didn’t hate-hate the movie, but he certainly didn’t enjoy it as much I did.

Speaking of movies, I just got done watching Intermission (Colin Farrell indie film).  I had to watch it by myself because Brian’s not really interested.  I asked him if I could watch one of our Neflix movies (as a way of procrastinationg from doing FIN 340 stuff – but I omitted that part – I had to or he never would’ve let me) while he’s at work and he told me to watch Intermission because he wanted to see the other stuff.  The other stuff being The Missing and A Cinderella Story.  The Missing, I can understand..  But A Cinderella Story?  He’d rather watch that than Intermission?  Shows you what kind of taste he has movie-wise.  Either his movie tastes have gone to the shitter or he just wants to oogle Hilary Duff.  Let’s hope he just wants to oogle or I’ll lose all respect for his movie aficionado-ness.

Ugh.  I’m making up my own words again!  I hate that.  I guess this is my cue to stop.  Until next time..

Delaying the Game

Posted on October 21, 2004 by under Poker.

I believe that this is the reason why our poker session was delayed the other night.  Because Branden is a Boston fan.  Ugh.

For delaying the poker game, everyone at his table conspired to knock him out early.  Just kidding.  They didn’t really conspire.  Branden just happened to get knocked out early.

He then spent the rest of the evening in his bedroom pouting..  And calling Mano to find out when we would be done.  LOL!

I Rock

Posted on October 21, 2004 by under Poker, School.

I freakin’ rock!  That’s all there is to it!

I was telling Brian just now (after I got task 2 of programming assignment 4 to work; it’s an amortization schedule program) that the reason why I always procrastinate is that I work better under pressure.  I probably spent three hours total on both task 1 (a stopwatch program) and task 2 together and they both look pretty damn good to me.

Yesterday was a day of immaculate procrastination.  I went to work and, instead of coming home to do school work, I went shopping at Express (bought $150 worth of stuff but my team gave me a $40 gift card for Bosses’ Day, so that helped quite a bit).  Then I went home to change into clothes I could workout in, met Ashley at the North YMCA, did a 45-minute BOSU workout class with her and then did the 45-minute step class right after and then I played racquetball with Brian to boot!

When Brian arrived at the Y, he told me that Branden’s poker chips were still in my trunk from last Saturday (we’d totally forgotten about them) and we needed to drive over there to bring the chips because Branden’s usual Tuesday night poker game was going to start at 10:30 PM.  It was no problem because the YMCA closes at ten anyway.  But then, I decided that if I was going over there to bring the poker chips, I might as well stay and play.  It was just a $10 buy-in anyway.  Unlike the $50 game on Saturday.

You will never believe this!  Branden held off starting the session because of a stupid baseball game and so we were there until well after 2:00 AM!  I got knocked out by Jason and ended up 5th (stupid river card).  I was really ticked because I had to stay up, miss the opportunity to work on my programs, and I had nothing to show for it!

Although..

Brian ended up winning second!

He took home $60, so technically we made (or shall I say HE made) $40 last night (this morning; whatever).  But Branden pointed out that since I lost $50 on Saturday, we are technically still in the hole.  He took 3rd and I took 4th – and he JUST had to rub it in.

But who’s counting?

We’ve lost so many times playing the Tuesday night $10 buy-ins at his place..  Who cares?  It’s fun.  Besides, it’s not really so much the money (although the money helps, too) – I just want to freakin’ win!

Speaking of winning, it really irks me that Brian has won first and taken home a prize (the shuffleboard table, remember?) and now he has won second and taken $60 and I haven’t won jack.  And yet I’m the BETTER poker player!!  Ugh!

Swing!

Posted on October 17, 2004 by under Life, Poker.

I can’t keep up with blogging because there is so much happening right now.  And the events just happen so fast that by the time I have a moment to blog about it, something else more interesting has transpired.  But then sometimes, the dilemma is whether to share or not to share.  If it were my own chika I won’t have any qualms whatsoever but then if it’s other people’s chika then I worry that they’ll hate for airing their dirty laundry.

Anyway, since I don’t have time to do any actually blogging, you’ll notice that I’m using Audio Blogger more.  It’s awesome!  I love it.  If you hate hearing the grinding and painful sound of my voice, then you can just skip those entries.  You’re not being forced to listen to them.  Although, I’m sure you’ll be quite amused at how dumb and ditsy I can be so it may be worth a listen just to make fun of me.

Speaking of not blogging as much, another alternative would be my Flick album.  Now that I’ve got it setup to accept photos from my phone, it’s updated on a daily basis.  I signed up for a PRO account because I’m addicted to Flickr.  If you’ve ever used it, you’ll understand.  I had a taste of PRO membership until October 17 (today) when my free PRO membership expired.  I thought I could hold out until December, but man!  There simply is no comparison between the free membership and the PRO membership!  Trust me on this.

[Flickr should really give me a referral bonus or some sort of discount for plugging their product!]

Anyway, if you don’t hear from me for a while, I’m probably busy with school or work or giving Brian blowjobs.  I owe him for last weekend still (for letting me play the $10 buy-in).  He was supposed to get road head on the way home but Branden’s ride left and so we offered to give him a ride home.  I didn’t even think anything of it until I was climbing into the back seat of the car.  I busted up laughing!!  Because I didn’t have to pay up.  We had to explain it to Branden who, I’m sure, regretted being privy to the information.

And then last night I had my way twice.  Brian initially said no dancing if I play in the $50 buy-in tourney (all his coworkers are still in shock that he let me participate; all I got to say is: the payment is worth acquiescence; again, trust me on this).  I did pretty decent:  4th place but once again one place shy of the money.  Branden won 3rd and received $100 for his effort.  Second place took $150 and “evil” Mike won $350.  It was a long-ass tourney that started from 6 PM to 11 PM.  Jen called me a couple of times to find out if I was on my way to Flashbacks, which I hadn’t even asked Brian about yet because he said either poker or dancing but not both!

Believe it or not, I managed to talk him into going to Flashbacks too!  Branden went with us (as you heard on the previous audio post).  He got bored though, so we let him take my car home.  Not the best idea in the world considering he’s not allowed to drive but it was the least we could do since Flashbacks isn’t really his kind of place.  As old as Branden is, he prefers teeny boppers at Grahams.  What a perv!

Brian told me that he almost got Branden pulled over while giving him instructions to get out of the parking lot.  He had him going the wrong way on 2nd St and didn’t realize it until he saw a cop car drive by.  He ran (now, you have to consider how major this is because Brian doesn’t run; not even when playing racquetball) to the car which was stopped at the intersection, effectively startling Branden.  He had to tell Branden to turn around because he was going the wrong way!  We can’t afford to get Branden pulled over, not just because he’s in my car, but because he’ll go to jail for good!  He’s not supposed to be driving at all!  Not even to work!  Not anywhere!  At any rate, I wish I could’ve witnessed this because I probably would’ve laughed my ass off!  Just the thought of Brian running up to the car amuses me as I sit here and type up this post.

We actually stayed at Flashbacks after last call which is out of the ordinary for us.  Our normal MO is to leave at midnight a la Cinderella.  But then, we didn’t arrive until almost midnight and I needed at least a couple of hours worth of dancing and booty shaking to satiate my desire to look absolutely foolish on the dance floor.  There’s nothing more satisfying than embarrassing Brian in front of other drunk people.  I don’t know why he cares.  They look a lot more retarded than we do!  Maybe I just like pushing his buttons.  LOL!

We had to pick up my car from Branden’s on the way home.  He lives at Ponderosa, right by us, so it’s not too far.  Although, we stayed and chatted a while so we didn’t get home until after 2 AM.  Brian wanted repayment and actually voiced his concern (about me passing out as soon as we got home) while we were driving home.  I assured him that he would receive his payment and that I would be fine.  Umm..  He was right.  I zonked as soon as I hit the bed so he hasn’t received any payment yet whatsoever for relenting to my whims the past couple of weeks.

Today, I got my way again!  Some people just don’t learn their lesson, I guess.  Just kidding!  I managed to talk Brian into taking me to see the Swing! production at Century II.  At $42, it’s more expensive than going to the movies but the show was definitely worth every penny.  It’s the most awesome dancing I’ve seen in a long time!

Brian did a bit of whining about how I have yet to pay him for his being so compliant.  And I go, “It’s my birthday month!  I’m entitled to it!”  I think at this point, trying to get out of having to pay is worth a shot because I’ve been lucky so far!  LOL!

Ugh.  There is so much more to write about – and so very little time!  Brian just got done playing video games and he will ask to go to bed any minute now!  I’m going to bed for now and I’ll just catch you all up next time.

Weekend Recap

Posted on October 16, 2004 by under Life, Poker.

Last weekend was a pretty good weekend – all things considered.  I tired to set aside time to study for my exams but I ended up procrastinating and procrastinating and not studying at all until the day of..  I spend so much time trying to set aside time to study and then afterwards trying to find other things to do in order to procrastinate and not have to study..  It’s really pathetic.

Friday’s procrastination distraction was Jen.

She asked Brian and I to meet her and Ray at Philippine Grille and then go with them to Flashbacks.  Flashbacks is what used to be Bricktown 54.  Bricktown closed a while back and just reopened as Flashbacks the Thursday before last.

I was in a bad mood from doing quite poorly on my ballroom dance final and I didn’t feel like studying so I agreed.  Much to Brian’s unhappiness.  But he was fine once we got to Flashbacks.  He says he doesn’t like to dance but whenever I dance with him he seems to really enjoy it.  And I mean, :really: enjoy it. Which is why we usually always have to leave so early..  Dancing is almost like foreplay to him.

By the way, speaking of Flashbacks, the bouncer actually paid us a compliment.  Brian came from work and I had just come from my ballroom dance final (in which I was playing the guy part so I was wearing my old Express pants and matching vest; an all black outfit that I don’t think is really that great looking but quite flattering because it makes you look slimmer) so we were both looking pretty spiffy, I suppose.  The bouncer was like, “Thanks for dressing nice tonight.  We really appreciate it!”  I almost busted up laughing because we didn’t even do it on purpose.

Anyway, it was almost an hour before we found Ray and Jen.  They didn’t freakin’ walk around.  They just got there and sat at the bar and started drinking.  After a couple of drinks, we decided to walk around and look for them.  When we found them, Jen was all “There you guys are!  We thought you ditched us!”

On our way to look for Jen and Ray, though, I got paid another compliment.  I guess it’s a double-sided one.  It could be a diss or it could be a compliment?  I’d rather think of it as a compliment, though.  We were walking and all of a sudden this guy goes, “Hey!  I know you!”  It was Kracker (one of our poker buddies; he used to DJ for 107.3 KKRD before they shut it down).  He was referring to Brian so I go, “But what about me?  Didn’t you recognize me?”  He goes “Well, your hair is down and you’re well-dressed!”  I guess that means I look like crap when I normally go to play poker.  But I’ll take that as a compliment.  LOL!

Speaking of compliments, I had my facial at Individually Yours the following day and met Misty at Lancome for makeup application.  She had her ten year high school reunion that evening so she wanted to look her best.  I said I’d go with her for fun.  I’d gone the week before and had my makeup done with Sarah and Jen at Origins (next stop MAC).  I’m a total makeover whore these days!

Linda, the Lancome rep who did my makeup was trying to make conversation..  And then she goes, “So where is your homecoming tonight?”  I busted up laughing.  She explained that there had been quite a few high school girls getting their makeup done for homecoming earlier that day and she thought I was one of them.  Not sure what gave her the idea that I’m still in high school.  It must be my baby fat!  This could be taken as a diss as well but, again, I’ll take it as a compliment.

That evening I went to ballroom dance to help Juan Carlos with his ballroom dance final.  I’m glad I went because it made up for my poor performance the night before.  Afterwards we went to Romano’s house to play some hold ’em ($10 buyin).  Got third again!  I hate getting third because there is no money!  Ugh. I have more to say about last Saturday night but I gotta hit the shower because I’m meeting Sarah at the North-Y in less than an hour.  Check back tomorrow, and you’ll have the rest of the funny/not-so-funny-really story.

BTW, I really wanted to audio blog about real-life chika instead of celebrity chika but some of my real-life friends actually have access to this blog so I have to protect the not-so-innocent.  After all, I wouldn’t want to ruin anyone’s life but my own.
