Stargazers

Posted on March 22, 2004 by under Life.

So much can happen in the span of a few days.

Very few are privy to the goings on of our day to day lives..  Only those people actually know the roller coaster of emotions that I’ve been feeling.  If you know what I we have actually done in the last couple of weeks, you’ll know why I’ve been so moody lately.  I hope that in a few weeks things will return to normal and I won’t have to put Brian through hell anymore.

Valentines weekend came and went without any serious hitches (unless you count the puking episode on Friday night/Saturday morning or getting sick with the sniffles over the weekend as hitches).  But on Tuesday night Brian and I had the biggest fight we’ve ever had.  It was horrible.  I will spare you the details because you will think that I am an evil, evil person..  I’m not going to argue with you there because I know that I can be.  And, believe me, I am ten times more so when I am angry.

Anyway, when I came to work on Thursday, I found this huge floral arrangement consisting of stargazer lilies, pink-tipped white roses and carnations.  It was beautiful!  I was told numerous times how fragrant and beautiful the flowers were but, of course, I was sick with a cold so I couldn’t really smell them.  I made sure that the flowers had plenty of water before I left work on Friday night so I hope that they make it through the weekend.  I would hate to find them all wilted when I return to work on Monday.

Brian and I made up, not because of the flowers, but because I finally came to my senses.  This morning we went to his grand parents to put their new computer together.  It’s Brian’s old one, the PIII Dell Dimension 4200 we had from about three years ago.  He decided to give it to them after their computer went kaput.  Anyway, Brian now has a 3 GHz P4 Dell Dimension 8300 because he just feels to compelled to better me (mine is only a 2.52 GHz P4; I bought it almost two years ago because I got tired of us having to share one computer — his — which for some reason was always malfunctioning for one reason or another).

After that we went to Healing Waters for our couples massage.  Brian had scheduled it several weeks ago as his Valentine’s gift to us.  We had massages (I’ve only had them at Sveta’s but Brian has had some at Sveta’s and one at Individually Yours where I got him a warm stone massage as a Valentine’s gift last year; my friend Ashley at work recommended Individually Yours because that’s where she gets her waxing treatments) before but this was our first time at Healing Waters.  It was so nice and relaxing!  We got in our comfy robes and nubby slippers, and hung out in the tea/book room while we waited for our massage therapists.  I’m not much of a tea drinker so I just drank water.  Brian didn’t like the orange-cucumber water they had available so he opted not to and just waited for the bottled water at the end of the massage treatment.  We had such a pleasant experience that Brian and I vowed we would just go to Healing Waters for all of our massage therapy in the future.

It was already 4:45 PM by the time we got out of there so we just headed to Thai Tradition for dinner.  I love that place but Brian isn’t a big fan of the food so we hardly ever go.  I love it because it’s the only fancy oriental restaurant in town.  You get Thai food but with a fine-dining atmosphere — I love it!  After dinner, we went to Best Cleaners to pick up Brian’s dry cleaning.  Holy smokes!  It was like $65!  I told him that was the craziest idea he’s ever had and to never do it again.  I mean, we could use the $65 towards another couples massage for crying out loud!

This one elderly lady who came in behind us at the dry cleaners was picking up a sweater that she had cleaned and when the cashier rang her up and told her to pay $5.99 she exclaimed, “$5.99??  It’s only a sweater!!”  I couldn’t believe her reaction after she had just witnessed Brian paying $65 for a few shirts and pants without even flinching!  But then, I think he should’ve flinched.  I can’t remember the last time I paid that much for dry cleaning!  My best guess would be about eight years ago when I used to wear a lot of vintage stuff..  I got these awesome coats from the DAV for like $5 each maybe (I know that they were less than $10 each for sure).  I went straight to Dillon’s after buying them to get them cleaned because they had this DAV smell and you really don’t know how long they’ve been collecting dust at the store..  The craziest thing — I paid more for dry cleaning than for the actual garments!

Our next stop was Best Buy where I bought Brian a couple of PS2 games (Jak II and Thirteen) for an “I’m Sorry” gift.  Ran into mom and dad who were buying a DVD player for Logan’s bedroom at their house (Logan doesn’t even live with them, mind you, they only watch him during the day and once in a while he will spend the night) among other things.  While there Brian found a desk (he wants a new computer desk to accommodate his dual monitor setup) and an office chair that he fell in love with.  I found a miniDV camcorder and this monster Maytag dryer with a drying closet for your flat-dry and and hang-dry clothes that I fell in love with.  Needless to say, we both high-tailed it out of there with just the two PS2 games before any more damage could be done.

I guess that’s all the news I can share for now..  It’s bed time!

Busy With School

Posted on March 20, 2004 by under Life, School.

Sorry there haven’t been any posts since the 7th.  I’ve been kind of busy with school.  And even though it’s technically spring break, I still have lots of school work to do.

We spread ourselves kind of thin on Sunday.  It was spent having lunch at El Torero with my case study group.  Then Brian and I drove around town taking pictures of garden centers (our case study is on a fictitious garden center — Meadowbrook Garden Center — that’s not doing so well).  We had a few minutes to hang out at the house before going to the last hockey game (possibly the last one ever because the Thunder is moving to Topeka).  And then after that we went to Rivers Edge just in time to watch Half of Reason (my friend from school David Johnson is in the band) perform.

I’ve got tons of pictures that I took also, but I really don’t have that much time because we are over-booked again today.  We’ve got quite a few errands to run and then Brian’s work group is having a picnic, then we have dinner at Kobe’s with Jen, Ray, Ashley and Travis and then off to 54 for the rest of the evening.

I have a few funny stories to share but, once again because of the time constraints, I will save those for next time.

Perspective

Posted on March 7, 2004 by under Memes.

This is my contribution to Photo Friday: Perspective. These photos were all taken yesterday (except for the last one which was taken last year). You can call the first set “The Drunk Perspective” – LOL! Enjoy!

From this perspective, my usually flat chest looks not so flat.. Yay!

And from this perspective (and any perspective for that matter), it looks like I won. Sorry, baby! You and I both know that I’m the better chess player! LOL!

Sour Candy

Posted on February 29, 2004 by under Life.

Brian has this thing about sour candy so we went to Candyopolis on Saturday night and he bought every single kind of sour candy sold in the store.

Anyway, I absolutely hate sour candy. But Brian, being the child-like guy that he is, kept forcing me to try it. So here are some cam captures of the whole thing — he didn’t even realize that we were on cam the whole time.

Hey, at least he’s not naked this time! LOL!

Morning Photo Shoot

Posted on February 28, 2004 by under Babies, Life.

My match-making career is so over. It ended before it even started. Sigh. Oh well.

In case you are wondering what I am talking about, allow me to explain. I had sent Dr. Vanderburgh an email (yes, frankly, I just could not summon the courage to ask him in person and still manage a straight face; and besides, I have to high-tail it to work right after that class so I don’t really have time) asking him his marital status. He is not married but has a girlfriend. That figures! All the good ones are taken and only the crappy ones are left. Sorry, Misty!

He is such a nice guy that he was so gracious in his reply. I imagined him laughing in the same way that he does in class when he says something about Aristotle or Tycho Brahe or some other famous dead guy that he thinks is so amusing. And then thinking to himself, “OMG! She did not just ask me that. And I was about to give her an A on her paper too.” Of course, those crude words would never come out of his mouth (or his keyboard). But I’m pretty sure that’s what he was thinking. I don’t know how I am ever going to show my face in class on Monday. I hope he doesn’t know that I am Cherrie Brubaker since we don’t have a seating chart and he hardly ever calls on anyone in class. That way at least I can take comfort in my anonymity. Then again, I think there’s a great chance that he knows that I was the one who sent him that stupid email because it’s a pretty small class. Too bad it’s too late to drop the class.

Just kidding.

I would never consider dropping a class over this. I’m too cheap. LOL! I was so close to dropping when Kelley dropped, though. But then I decided since I would only get 40% of the class tuition back I would just tough it out and take whatever grade I could manage. I was pretty worried about the paper. I mean, I hate writing research papers! But then after I finished writing it, I was actually pretty pleased with myself. I mean, it was just overwhelming at first. Once I got started though, it wasn’t too bad.

Then Dr. V offered to critique our drafts and that was really helpful. He was pretty generous about his assessment so I was like, “This class isn’t going to be too bad.” Brian thinks that I shouldn’t have doubted myself because he knew that I would do well. He says I am always successful in all of my classes. You’d think that he says these things because he is my husband and he is inclined to fill my head with truck loads of bs but he’s actually right. So far in all of the exams I have taken thus far I not only aced the exams, I got the highest score in all but one class — Managerial Accounting. I missed three questions which were worth three points each so that dropped me down to a 91%. It’s still an A, so I have no complaints. So far it looks like it’s going to be a very good semester. Straight As, here I come! Call me a nerd, but I think that’s pretty exciting! (I am so silly!)
Anyway, I have some pictures to share with you all. When I woke up on Friday, I got a bug up my butt and decided to do a little photo shoot with the kitties. In case you haven’t met them: Hobbie is the tabby, Felix is the black one (yes, I’m very predictable) and Oscar is the gray one.

In case you are wondering about the wire shelves.. We were forced to put some of my clothes in the wire shelves because we ran out of room in our main closet (the walk-in closet in our bedroom). I couldn’t use the closet in the office because that’s where we store all of our winter coats and jackets. The closet in the cat’s room is where we store Brian’s summer clothes (mine are in boxes still, although I’ve bought some new warm weather clothes that are now taking up room in the main closet). Anyway, Oscar has converted one of the shelves as his very own home. He actually was using the other shelf before (the one to the right). That’s the reason why I put that white plastic bin in there. I wanted to deter him from getting up and using my clothes as his bed. Of course, our ingenious cat found another shelf to get into. Brian thinks that it is adorable. I guess I find it cute too, but it drives me nuts. Better Oscar than any of the other two, I suppose. At least Oscar is fully de-clawed and won’t really scratch anything. The things you have to put up with when you have pets! Who needs children?
