Reminiscing About Old Times
Posted on April 3, 2010 by Ching under Family, Flickr, Life.
As you know, I’ve been scanning and digitizing some old photos. Brian said I can can’t keep them anymore (they’re considered clutter) so I’ve been saving them on my Flickr where they will live forever (or until Flickr goes belly up, which I hope never happens because I have almost 30,000 photos on Flickr and it will be a catastrophe to have to transfer them elsewhere).
Here’s a couple of pictures I wanted to share with you all to show that I’m more than just a nerd with a computer, I’m someone’s daughter, someone’s friend, and a multifaceted human being too.
This is a photo of my mom and I at an one of my grade school graduations at Saint Francis of Assisi College in Las Pinas (Philippines). She’s giving me a medal because I graduated with honors. Woot! Woot! Go me! I’ve always been a nerd, ever since I was young. LOL.
My friends didn’t seem to mind either because there were still friends with me, despite my obvious nerdiness (hey, there were some perks such as getting to take home quizzes to grade – LOL).
The reason I’m not in my school uniform at the graduation is that my barkada and I performed at the ceremony. I loved to dance (still do) and we performed every chance we got. LOL.
Judging from our outfits in this picture, my guess would be this was a dance performance to the tune of Together Forever (by Rick Astley). We used to love that song because it held great meaning for us. We were always the “friends forever” types and we thought our barkada would be “together forever” also.
Now we’re living in various parts of the world. I’d lost touch with a few of them (Pia is the one I’d been in contact with the most; she actually came to our wedding and was one of my bridesmaids) over the years, but now we’ve reunited through Facebook. Gotta love social networking!

Dad’s Toys
Posted on January 23, 2010 by Ching under Family.
I finally got to check out dad’s hobby room. My dad has more toys than anyone I know. It was funny watching him fly his new plane out on the golf course this afternoon. He is just like a little kid. I wish I could have captured it on video. It just goes to show you, inside every grown up is a five-year-old child dying to get out. LOL.

Christmas Day at the Brubaker’s
Posted on December 26, 2009 by Ching under Family.
My loot from Christmas Day: a trench coat from Old Navy, Black & Decker soldering iron, and a book about soldered jewelry. I can’t wait to get crafty! LOL.
I also got a black handbag.
Brian and I got a nice, new rice cooker so we can get rid of our old one. We actually used the new rice cooker today.
Brian looks dashing in his new blazer, no?
Brian got an argyle sweater vest, which would look great with the blazer.
He also got a fancy, new alarm clock.
Brian with his new reciprocating saw.
There’s tons of other stuff. Too much to post every single picture. Just watch the slideshow below instead.
We normally do breakfast, followed by gifts, then lunch, then maybe some Phase 10. We skipped Phase 10 this year and went to Sherlock Holmes. Chad and Jan met us at the theater.
Having had only two hours of sleep (because of callout and then we had to get up early to make sure we had enough time to pick up Brian’s grandparents – we weren’t sure how the roads would be), I was worried that I would fall asleep during the movie. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. I did have to step out for a phone call briefly during the movie, though.
Overall we had a wonderful time on Christmas Day. We are blessed to have wonderful family and friends to celebrate holidays with.

Christmas Eve at the Alonso Residence
Posted on December 26, 2009 by Ching under Family.

Because we are uber nerds, we had to bring our laptops. How else were we going to farm? LOL.
Kidding aside, I was on call on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so Brian and I actually brought three laptops with us: our personal laptops, which you see in the photo above, and then my work laptop, which was setup in one of the guest bedrooms. I had to get the several applications going: our deskview/callboard, Nortel CCMS (to see how long the rep has been idle, on a call, or any other activity), TotalView (to see how many calls abandoned during each interval), and Lotus Notes and Sametime (so I can communicate with the rep who’s working without having to call the office and tie up their line).
I was worried that I’d have to do callout while I was at mom and dad’s because of the blizzard-like weather conditions. I didn’t have to do until I got home, though. Brian and I got in at midnight and I got a call around 1 AM, right as we had gone to bed. That’s my luck (or lack thereof) for you.

Jen-Tevs (our new nickname for Jennifer Teves Allison because there are just way too many Jennifers in our family) made this beautiful, fruitilicious salad.

Mom’s humba turned out really good. It was the best humba she’s made yet. We had a ton of food. I won’t post all the food pictures here.
Mom was really proud of the fact that (besides the dishes that Jen-Tevs and Apple brought) she made all of the ulam herself. She didn’t hire someone else to cook/cater our dinner this time. Way to go, mom!

Our group photo (Alonsos, Holders, Allisons, Brubakers, plus Jeremy Ryan) was taken before the Cannadys arrived. We should have taken a group photo after they got to the house, but we got distracted by the kiddos and opening presents. We forgot all about it. LOL.
Mom was Jeremy’s realtor when he bought his house. He is a good friend of Andrew and Apple. This is actually the first time that Brian and I met Jeremy. Although, we almost met him at the Midwest Rockfest this summer because mom told us that he was there too.

Apple really got into Catchphrase. I’m glad because it’s one of my favorite games. I never have anyone to play with, though, because Brian doesn’t like it. Notice that he’s not playing with us.

Logan with the Nerf Wii game that Jenni got him.

Eli, playing with his new toy.

Jennifer, Jen-Tevs, Mom, Apple and Zane

Jen-Tevs and Armando, reading an article about our favorite sports hero Manny Pacquiao. Go Pacman!

Baby Zane with some toys we got for him.

Logan with the Nerf machine gun that we got him.

Eli with the Bob the Builder stuff that we got him.

Jenni just had to put the Bob the Builder hardhat on. She couldn’t resist.
She is so goofy. Probably the funniest part of the evening was when Jenni proclaimed herself as being half-Mormon. I was like, “How are you half-Mormon? That’s not even possible.”
Jenni explained that she’s half-Mormon because she only goes to church every other Sunday. Everyone busted up laughing. Sometimes Jenni is so funny that she makes my head hurt.
We didn’t get to do karaoke (Brian got lucky), but I still had a lot of fun. I hope everyone else did, too.

Ching Victorious at Bowl-Off
Posted on December 6, 2009 by Ching under Family, Games.
Brian and I had our bowl-off at The Alley. Mom and dad B came out to spectate.
Bree and Jan came out, too. They actually bowled with us.
Bree and David got along fabulously.
I have no idea how Bree left these three pins standing, but she managed to do it.
Bowling results: I won the first game, 151 to 92. Brian won the second game, 142 to 131. I won the third and final game, 119 to 111. Scores were crappy over all, but it didn’t matter because I just needed to beat Brian.
Basically, I won two out of three games and by total pin count. I think even if Brian won the third came, I still would have won based on the total pins. He would have had to beat me by 51 pins on the third game to take the pin count lead. That’s highly unlikely. LOL.
Brian wants to do a rematch. He still thinks he can beat me. He sure is persistent. I might just give him another shot at failing. LOL. I think we will pick a different venue next time, though. At $5 per game, the rates at The Alley are just too steep. Our little bowling excursion cost $60 for the four of us (three games each for the four of us and three shoe rentals – I have my own bowling shoes).
Our next bowl-off will likely be at Northrock Lanes. They’ve got an all-you-can-bowl special on Sundays from 12 to 2 PM for only $7 per person. The price includes shoe rental so it would only cost about $30 for four people to bowl.
We could also bowl in evening from 9 to 11 PM for only $6 (includes shoe rental). Hotdogs and drinks are only .50 cents during this time. You can’t beat that!
We will keep you guys posted on the date and time of the next bowl-off. Stay tuned.
