Stephanie and Gina Ann at the restaurant. Stephanie looks great again. Like she didn’t even workout. I don’t know how she does it. She gets sweaty and gross from Zumba and then, two seconds later, she’s all done up again. It’s completely magical.

Other than the food taking forever and the restaurant running out of rice, we had a great time. Nothing like a post-Zumba pig-out session!

My Favorite White Dress

Posted on April 24, 2011 by under Free Stuff, Health.

I have to thank my mom for giving me back my favorite white, eyelet dress. I brought it to the Philippines when we went in 2009. I think it was the dress I wore to the sementeryo. Oddly enough, I can’t find any picture of me in it. Probably because I was always the one behind the camera, taking all the pictures. We need to change that. Anyway, I had given it to mom after the trip.

A couple of months ago, while I was over at their house, she said I could have it back. I was so happy too because it’s my favorite white dress. I like it because it makes me look wholesome. LOL.

I have several things that I wish I never would have gotten rid of… Not that I can fit in them again, because I’m a long ways away from fitting in XS or 0-2 stuff. I mostly just regret getting rid of them because there are some things that you just can’t buy (much less find) any more. I had this orange A&F tennis skirt that I wish I still had because they match my orange and white Nike IDs. I think they were XS, though, so even if I kept them, it wouldn’t have done me any good.

I guess you can’t really keep things forever. I mean, there’s only so much closet space. You have to get rid of stuff to make room for other stuff. Unless, of course, you’re my mom and you have an entire bodega. It’s hard for me to believe that she still has all of these things even after several boxes of giveaways to the Philippines and making several donations to Goodwill.

Ching - Getting Ready - 2001 Filipino Ball

I really shouldn’t pick on my mom too much. I actually like giving her the clothes that I’ve outgrown because then there’s a 50-50 chance that I might actually get them back. My closet consolidation/reduction strategy has always been to give all the things that I don’t want and can’t fit in anymore to charity; and then all the things that I can’t fit in anymore but still want go to mom and Jenni (depending on the size and style). If I still want it, there’s a good chance that they might like it.

Speaking of dresses… I hope that the dress on the right found a good home. It was my most favorite dress — out of all of the ones that I’d worn to all the Filipino balls. I hung on to it for a long, long time hoping that I could squeeze back into the Jessica McClintock size 3, but when I finally started wearing size 10 dresses, I realized that it was time to give up the dream. Oh, to be young and skinny again!

I have a plan, though. It might take a couple of years to achieve, but I’m on a mission and I know I can do it. Step one is to switch gyms. Also, my hobbies need to be conducive to a healthy, active lifestyle (e.g. dancing, racquetball and frisbee golf are good hobbies to have; poker not so much). I need to figure out what to do about my eating habits because that’s something that has been really difficult for me to change. I cannot diet at all to save my life.

Anyway, let’s mark this day on the blog as the day I make a commitment that by the time I’m 35, I’ll be in the best shape of my life. Not to count my chickens before the eggs hatch but… Dear future self — Congrats! Using a little bit of The Secret because sometimes exercise just doesn’t cut it. Jay knows what I’m talking about. It works. (It’s available on Netflix’ Instant Watch, by the way.)

Wow… I got totally sidetracked. What was I talking about? Oh, yeah. The white dress. Thanks for keeping it safe and giving it back, mom. There’s actually another white dress that I will soon fit back into (when I achieve my goal in a couple of years). It would be great if, when Brian and I renew our vows for our tenth wedding anniversary, I could fit back into my size 4 wedding gown and look even better in it this time around.

I can totally do this! Wish me luck!

Zumba Master Class

Posted on April 18, 2011 by under Events, Health, Zumba.

I succumbed to peer pressure and decided to attend the Zumba Master Class at North YMCA yesterday. I’m glad I did because I had a lot of fun.

Our post-workout picture.

I’m really glad that Amie talked me into going. I was reluctant at first because I was worried that there would be 200+ people there and it would be way crowded, which I hate because then I can barely move. When I was in Amie’s Sunday Zumba class at West Central Genesis earlier that day, though, she told me that there were only 40 or so pre-registered at the time that she signed up. It makes sense, because how many people would really pay $20 to take a Zumba class?

It was a decent turn out, but not as big as I feared. I’m glad Gina Ann and her friends got there early and secured a great spot. I hate being in the back because I’m too short to see over other people.

So anyway, Amie’s class ended at 2:00 pm. This gave Brian and I time to meet the family for ice cream at Orange Leaf. I just took a few bites out of Brian’s ice cream. I was good and didn’t have my own. Anyway, I was really sloppy in Amie’s class in my black Zumba cargos and a white t-shirt so I wanted to come home, shower and change into a more colorful Zumba outfit for the Master Class.

Brian was like, “Why are you showering? You’re just going to sweat again!”

Channeling my inner five-year-old, “I have to look presentable. This isn’t a REGULAR Zumba class! This is a MASTER class! This is an EVENT!” I was quite indignant. LOL.

I’m glad I changed because we took quite a few pictures. I’d hate to look losyang compared to everyone. =P

Zumba Power Couple: Justin and Mandy

Posted on April 17, 2011 by under Health, Things to Do, Zumba.

2011-04-13 19.52.38.jpg

I have no idea how Mandy did it, but I bow to her persuasive powers. She is the only one who has managed to convince her husband to join us. I’ve been trying to get Brian to do it for months. The only thing I’d ever been able to get him to do is come and shoot video.

Well, I did get him to try Amie’s class once. That might have been my mistake. I think that scared him off. Maybe I should have eased him into it instead of starting with the most challenging Zumba class. I just figured if Raymond and Colt could do it, then maybe Brian could too. Besides, we had the videos for him to watch so he could learn the routines. How wrong I was! Now the mere mention of Zumba makes Brian shiver. I think I’ve scared him off for good.

Gina Ann suggested perhaps coercion would be the way go to. She said I should offer him fellatio in exchange for doing Zumba with us (but not immediately AFTER, unless a shower is involved =P). He’s getting that quite regularly now, so that would mean I’d have to withhold it until he does Zumba. After much consideration, I’ve decided that would be more punishment for me than it is for him so that’s not going to work.

I’m thinking maybe video games might be the ticket. He’d have to Zumba with us in order to buy new video games. Do you guys think that would work? Any other suggestions?

Yet Another Zumba Addict

I’m not the only one addicted to Zumba fitness gear. Check out Tony in his new Zumba sneakers and cargo pants! Very cool, no?

2011-04-09 10.17.28.jpg

We had a great workout in Gina Ann’s class yesterday. Brian and I got there late because I have to come from Andover YMCA, where my regular Saturday morning step class is held. I usually miss the the warmup. Even with missing the warmup, I still managed 6375 steps. My CardioTrainer app figured that the 54-minute workout was equivalent to 3.96 miles. Add that to the 3.56 miles from my step class and I burned about 900 calories in one day. That’s not even counting the calories I burned playing Ladder Golf and kicking everyone’s butt at Tekken later that day. LOL.

BTW, speaking of steps… I hit a new record high today for Zumba. At the end of Amy’s class, my CardioTrainer app recorded over 8800 steps and figured that my workout was equivalent to 5.5 miles. Wow! It must have been all the booty shaking that we did (I had my phone in my back pocket). 🙂
