Finally Got Alex Fixed
Posted on September 6, 2015 by Ching under Babies, Toys.
Remember how I messed up the front bumper of my car a couple of weeks ago? I got half a dozen quotes ranging from $855 to $1140. I didn’t want to file an insurance claim so I was going to have to take care of all of it out of pocket. My first instinct was to go with the lowest quote but Brian talked me out of it. He wanted to go with the highest bid because that was Carstar and they took good care of Bebot when we got rear-ended last year. It’s a lot of money so I decided to sleep on it.
The front bumper looked fine at first so I thought I would let it ride. I figured I had a few weeks or maybe even a couple of months before it got really bad and I actually had to get it fixed. Well, after our recent trip to Kansas City, it actually looked pretty bad. I guess the vibrations from driving 80 mph for three hours didn’t help matters any.
We ended up going with Carstar not just because Brian always gets his way but because their estimate was the most thorough and we’d used them before and been pleased with their work. Brian really likes them. Brian dealt with someone different last year. Ray worked with us this time and he was super nice. Plus, he is over punctual like me and you know how much I like punctual people.
We set up an appointment to drop off the car on Wednesday at 7:30 AM, when the shop opens, and when we got there at 7:15 AM, Ray was already there. I really appreciated that because it meant that I didn’t have to be late for work that day.
Here’s how Alex looked when we dropped her off.
Carstar not only did great work but they completed it within a couple of days as promised. We dropped Alex off on Wednesday and got her back by 4:00 PM the next day. It was a really quick turnaround.
The front bumper looks great too. I think it looks better than it did before the parking lot mishap. It’s not going anywhere now. The best part? The total came in $100 under the original estimate. We didn’t save that much but every penny helps so we really appreciate it. Huge thanks to Carstar for fixing my baby.

Finally Found a Vet for Molly
Posted on June 21, 2015 by Ching under Babies.
After months of searching we finally found a vet for Molly. Dr. Jon Aluise at Andover Veterinary Clinic met Molly for the first time last week and they seem to get along great. Brian and I liked Dr. Jon too because he seems like a nice person. Also, he graduated from the same high school that Brian and I graduated from (Derby High School class of ’95; Brian is class of ’92; and I’m class of ’96). Dr. Jon and Brian had some mutual acquaintances so there was an instant connection. That’s always a plus.
I found out later that one of my coworkers goes to the same vet clinic also. Good referrals are always great and give me peace of mind. We really want Molly to have the best care specially since she’s getting older.
Another great thing about this clinic is that they have boarding and daycare next door, so if Brian and I ever need to go out of town we have a nice place to take Molly where we know she will be well cared for. I’m so happy we found this new vet on our side of town. They have everything we need so we no longer have to drive across town for vet services. Hallelujah!

Molly, Our Perverse Little Angel
Posted on October 26, 2014 by Ching under Babies.
She looks so sweet but she has a couple of really weird habits. One is that she cannot eat over her bowl. She picks up food from her bowl, walks a little ways before dropping the food on the carpet, and then she eats off the carpet. This makes for interesting textures on the floor when you’re walking around barefoot.
And then there is this other thing that she does:
It’s kind of weird but I’ve been told it’s quite normal. It’s a way for her to show dominance. She’s always done it and would even mount Jesus, one of our cats back when we had cats. She couldn’t do it to Felix or Oscar because they wouldn’t let her get away with it. Jesus was so passive that he wouldn’t even flinch.
Anyway, I’m not sure how this got started but she’s always done it. I suppose we’ve not done a very good job of discouraging it because we’d just laugh it off so now, even at the ripe old age of 48 (technically she’s 48 because she’s 8 years old), she still does it.
I’d been reading up on this behavior and it seems like the main reason she does it is probably boredom. Brian and I are both at work all day. And, though Brian does a good job of coming home for lunch to let Molly out, I’m not sure that we give her as much exercise and attention as she needs.
I’m going to see if walking her and playing with her more will curb the habit but I’m thinking that it’s probably too late to change her behavior at this point. I mean, she’s pretty much an old lady. Oh, well.
BTW, here are some more adorable pictures of Molly:
Brian and Molly, sleeping.
She’s always napping, even in broad daylight.
She can sleep even in the most awkward of positions.
See what I mean?
Bunny ears!
