The Script – Science & Faith Tour

Posted on September 18, 2011 by under Events, Videos.

Brian took me to see The Script at Hartman Arena on Friday night. We went right after work so I didn’t even get a chance to freshen up or anything. We were on a tight schedule because Brian likes to be early to everything. We barely had enough time to claim our package deliveries from the leasing office and grab a quick bite at Louie’s (our Cheers). I had an Italian sunset, my favorite drink there. Maybe Brian thought Hartman Arena is located farther away? We got there in less time than we thought and were there super early. On the plus side, we got great parking.

This was our first concert at Hartman Arena. Neither Brian nor I had been there before so we really didn’t know what to expect. After checking it out, I actually prefer it to Intrust Bank Arena. It’s a smaller, more intimate venue so you are closer to the performer – no matter where your seat is. Also the seat rows are farther apart than at Intrust Bank Arena so it’s much more comfortable to sit, stand or move around. I wouldn’t mind attending another concert there.

If you’re not familiar with The Script, here’s a song from their second album. The song is called, “Nothing.” They performed it the other night, but security kept busting me every time I tried to take video. Everyone else seemed to get away with it, though. Anyway, this video is from YouTube. Enjoy!

I first got turned on to the band back in 2009 during the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Their song, “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” was featured in the Enchanted Forest segment. I was trying to tell my coworker/friend Lance this because he wasn’t familiar with their music. He laughed and said he usually doesn’t notice the music when he’s watching the Victoria’s Secret fashion show on TV. LOL.

The Script put on a pretty good show. It’s not as elaborate as some of the concerts we’ve seen, but I enjoyed listening to them perform their music live. The opening act was Safety Suit from Nashville, TN. I’d never heard of them before, but they were pretty good. They were very energetic and fun to watch as well.

I think there must have been something wrong with my hearing that night. At the beginning of the night, when the 96.3 DJ was doing his announcing, I could have sworn he said that The Script was from Iowa. I knew he meant Ireland, though. So later that evening I whispered to Brian, “For a bunch of guys from Iowa they have funny accents.” Somehow, Ireland sounded like Iowa when he said it. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t mumbling. It was probably me and my problematic hearing. I mean, all night I kept thinking people were saying Safety Sue instead of Safety Suit. =P

Midnight Radio (Hedwig and the Angry Inch)

Posted on August 20, 2011 by under Movies, Videos.

Since I posted my favorite and also Angi’s favorite song from the movie, I find it only fitting to post Brian’s favorite also. This one is for you, babe. Enjoy!

Rain falls hard
Burns dry
A dream
Or a song
That hits you so hard
Filling you up
And suddenly gone

Breathe feel love
Give free
Know in your soul
Like your blood knows the way
From your heart to your brain
Knows that you’re whole

And you’re shining
Like the brightest star
A transmission
On the midnight radio
And you’re spinning
Like a 45
Ballerina
Dancing to your rock and roll

Here’s to Patti
And Tina
And Yoko
Aretha
And Nona
And Nico
And me
And all the strange rock and rollers
You know you’re doing all right
So hold on to each other
You gotta hold on tonight

And you’re shining
Like the brightest star
A transmission
On the midnight radio
And you’re spinning
Your new 45s
For the misfits and the losers
Yeah, you know you’re rock and rollers
Spinning to your rock and roll

Lift up your hands
Lift up your hands

Wig in a Box (Hedwig and the Angry Inch)

Posted on August 19, 2011 by under Movies, Videos.

I skipped Zumba last night to watch Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Orpheum with Brian and Angi (not sure what happened to everyone else =P). It was totally worth it! Hedwig is larger than life and is even more amazing on the big screen.

I had posted my favorite song from the movie, The Origin of Love, a few years ago. This time I’m posting Angi’s favorite. Feel free to sing along. She did!

On nights like this
When the world’s a bit amiss
And the lights go down
Across the trailer park
I get down, I feel had
Feel on the verge of going mad
And then it’s time to punch the clock

I put on some make-up
Turn on the tape deck
And put the wig back on my head
Suddenly I’m Miss Midwest Midnight Checkout Queen
Until I head home
And I put myself to bed

I look back on where I’m from
Look at the woman I’ve become
And the strangest things seem suddenly routine
I look up from my Vermouth on the rocks
The gift wrapped wig’s still in the box
Of towering velveteen

I put on some make-up
Some LaVern Baker
And pull the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I’m Miss Beehive 1963
Until I wake up
And I turn back to myself

Some girls, they got natural ease
They wear it any way they please
With their French flip curls
From perfumed magazines
Wear it up, let it down
This is the best way that I’ve found
To be the best you’ve ever seen

I put on some make-up
Turn on the eight-track
I’m pulling the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I’m Miss Farrah Fawcett
From TV
Until I wake up
And I turn back to myself

Shag, bi-level, bob
Dorothy Hamill do,
Sausage curl, chicken wings
It’s all because of you
With your blow dried, feather backed
Toni home wave, too
Flip, fro , frizz, flop
It’s all because of you
It’s all because of you
It’s all because of you

(okay…everybody…)

I put on some make-up
Turn on the eight track
I’m pulling the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I’m this Punk Rock Star
Of stage and screen
And I ain’t ever
I’m never turning back

P.S. Here’s the official quote from Brian, “I don’t know what I enjoyed more — the movie or watching all of the clueless people leave in the middle of the movie.” There were a lot of older couples and other people who were offended within the first ten minutes of the movie (some within the first five) and just got up and left. I don’t think they knew what they were in for. LOL.
