Full Day

Posted on September 9, 2004 by under Life, Poker, School.

Today has been a full day — and it’s not even over yet.  Stayed up last night to finish my homework.  Went to work early.  Got there at 7:30 AM.  Worked until 5:00 PM.  Rushed to WSU for my 5:35 PM Visual Basic .NET class.  Got done with class at 6:55 PM or so.  Talked to Dave about some software that he wants to use to facilitate our group project..

Rushed home to pick up Brian.  Brian and I go to Red Robin to have dinner with his parents, grandparents, Bill, Lisa and kids.  After dinner we stop by an Intrust ATM to get cash for a poker game at Brendan’s later tonight.  It will only be the second time we’ve played poker for money.

Anyway, we come home.  I note today’s expenditures on our checkbook register (it’s in my computer on an Excel spreadsheet because we’re always running out of checkbook registers).  Check some email..

I wake up Dave (who is already asleep, I think — I feel so horrible) to ask him about this software, thinking that I might already have it, and I don’t.  So now I will meet him tomorrow at school so he can give me the software to install in my computer.  I hope it’s as useful as he says it is.  I really don’t want to install any more crap on my computer because it’s full of crap as it is.

So anyway, now I’m just blogging while we’re waiting for our 10:30 PM when poker at Brendan’s starts.  Brian is playing on UB.  I guess he’s practicing.  He’ll need it.  I plan on playing really well so that I don’t have to pay money out of my own pocket for my bikini wax on Saturday and haircut on Sunday.  Heh.  Heh.

Let’s hope I win some money!

…

UPDATE: I lost!  Boo! Hoo!  Good thing the buy-in was only $10!  I’ll get them back on Tuesday, though!  =P

Busy Week

Posted on July 27, 2004 by under Life, Movies, Poker.

I can already tell this will be a busy week.  Work has been really hectic and we’ve got a lot of things going on besides the usual bumming around that we do.  Brent invited us to come over and watch Starsky and Hutch sometime this week with him and Chelsea.  We’ve got it coming through Netflix, but it may take some time because it says on their website that there’s a bit of a wait on that title.  It would be nice to be able to just rent it and be done with so we can cross it off our movies-to-watch list.

We haven’t really done anything with Brent and Chelsea in a while because we have been really busy.  I think, before last night, the last time the four of us had dinner together was at Felipe’s Jr a couple of weeks ago.  And we didn’t even do anything.  All we did was eat dinner.

We were supposed to watch Incubus in concert for Chelsea’s birthday on Sunday but the concert has been postponed.  Brian and I ended up watching The Bourne Supremacy by ourselves because Brent and Chelsea aren’t that fond of Matt Damon.  Afterwards, Brent and Chelsea met up with us at Johnny Carino’s.  Brian bought dinner as part of Chelsea’s birthday present.  We got her the Alice in Wonderland DVD because that’s what Brent said she wanted movie-wise.  Either that or the second season of Invader Zim on DVD but we couldn’t find it.

I don’t know when we will be able to get with them to watch Starsky and Hutch.  We’ve got lots of things going on this week.  We’ve got the Keller-Williams patio/salsa party on Thursday night and then my old hair stylist Man’s (she used to work at Planet Hair) grand opening party for her new salon, Urban Image, on Friday night.  For Saturday, I traded with Seth so I could attend Erin’s lingerie shower at Yia-Yia’s.  So instead of working from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, I’m working 4:30 PM to 12:30 AM.  It’s gonna suck, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Of course, Sunday is movie day.  Brian and I will probably go see The Village.  We’ve enjoyed M. Night Shyamalan’s other movies in the past (Unbreakable, Signs) so this might prove to be a good movie also.

Anyway, if you don’t see me post anything else this week, you know where to find me.

P.S. I did really well at poker last night.  I placed 4th during the 1st session and then 3rd during the 2nd session!  Usually, I do really well one session and then really crappy the other, but I did extremely well during both sessions last night.  My poker skills must be improving!  He!  He!

Poker at Fingers

Posted on July 15, 2004 by under Poker.

I was afraid that last Monday would be our final night of playing poker at Fingers so I brought my camera. I wanted to take pictures of everyone in case I never saw them ever again.

It has been so much fun playing poker every week with all of these guys. Ours is an eclectic diverse group of good, fun people.

As it turns out, we get to play poker at Fingers through August! Yay!

I thought I would share these pictures with you all, though. Maybe it will persuade some of you to come and join us next Monday.

Poker Update

Posted on May 7, 2004 by under Poker.

Brian made an interesting comment about my hair today.  He saw me part it to one side and he said he liked it that way, with one side of my face covered.  Why, I didn’t know he had a thing for cyclopses!  I should’ve known, though.  No wonder he is addicted to Futurama!

Well, the semester is almost over so my stress level is starting to decline.  I just have to stick to my study schedule so I can guarantee good results for finals.  Speaking of which, book buyback is just around the corner.  And thank God, for it!  I am super duper broke and could really use the money right now.

Despite my current broke-ass condition, I did manage to scramble $20 for our entry fee for the poker benefit tomorrow.  It’s for charity so I don’t mind chippin’ in.  Besides, if I do well I get to win prizes!  And you know me, I’m all for prizes.  I’m not that bad at poker either.  The first time I played at Fingers, I ranked #8.  Skipped the next two weeks because I was sick one week and the next week I had an exam to study for.  The next week I participated, I got to #5.  Both times I outlasted Brian.  The next week (which was this Monday that just passed) I told Brian I’m going to try to get into one of the top three spots.  His goal, rather modest compared to mine, was just to outlast me no matter what.

Anyway, Brian made it to the final table which was great considering that the previous week he didn’t even make it to any of the top sixteen spots.  Unfortunately, I knocked him out of the game so he didn’t accomplish his goal of outlasting me.  He didn’t feel too sore about it.  He figured if he was going to lose his money to anyone, he’d much rather lose it to me.  I feel the same way.  His stash actually helped me last longer against the remaining competitors.  And I’m proud to say, I finished in second place.  So at least one of us accomplished our goal!

Random Stuff

Posted on July 20, 2003 by under Family, Life, Poker.

We went swimming at Andy’s yesterday.  It was a blast, specially since we spent more time swimming than usual.  Of course, since I don’t know how to swim and can barely keep myself afloat, it thoroughly wore me out.  It gave my body a major workout.  I’m yo-yoing between 108 and 110 lbs these days.  I’m glad that I haven’t gained more weight since I’ve stopped working out on a regular basis.  It just goes to show that eating less helps tremendously.

After swimming Brian and I took my car to the carwash.  It’s my car’s turn to get cleaned since we took his car to the carwash last week.  We didn’t even bother changing.  We knew that we were going to get wet anyway so we just went there in our swimsuits right from swimming with Sarah and Ashley.

Later that evening Brian and I went to his parents house to check out their new computer from Dell.  Brian helped his dad setup a network between their old pc and the new one so he can transfer all of his files.  They needed to transfer their stuff over because they plan to strip their old pc and give it to Brian’s grandparents to replace their old pc which cannot play any of the games that are available now.  It has a difficult enough time playing the games that are already installed in the system.

Anyway, I hung out with Brian and his dad as they setup the network between the two computers.  Brian shared the C-Drive on the old pc so that the new pc had full access to it.  Dave wanted to transfer his contacts and saved email messages from the Outlook Express on the old pc to the new pc and I was the right man for the job.  Transfering the contact list was easy enough.  Brian and I have done that numerous times because of all of the times that he has uninstalled and reinstalled the operating system on his computer, exporting and importing contacts from our Outlook Express and Yahoo! mail, not to mention to and from our computers.   Transfering the messages was a little harder because we’d never even attempted to do it before.  We went through the motions of importing but neither Dave nor Brian could figure out the source folder.  They both gave up pretty easily and resigned themselves to the tedious task of forwarding all those emails (hundreds of them) that they had saved over time and just retrieving them on the new pc.  Never one to give up easily, I kept digging.  I finally found the source folder on the old pc.  So we tried again.  Brian who sometimes has doubts about my abilities (but I can’t blame him because I act like a dumb blonde most of the time) goes, “If this works, I’ll be really impressed.”  Under normal circumstances I would’ve replied, “Prepare to be impressed then!”  But, as I’d never done it before, I wasn’t too confident about the process either.  Dave goes, “It this works she’s getting a really big hug.”  Guess what, I got the hug!

That’s all for now, I have to get back to playing UB.  I lost $88,000 goofing off at one of the 100-200 tables one night and now I’m back to the kiddle tables.  Brian had a really good night last night and got up to almost $300,000.  We also figured out how to transfer funds between players.  He gave me $50,000 so that I could play with him at one of the 500-1000 tables but I lost it all on ONE hand!  He gave me another $10,000 just now but I blew threw that pretty quickly too.  I’m going to have to work on getting more playchips myself from now on because Brian won’t give me any more money!  See you all in UB!
