Social Tap with Leadership Wichita Pals

Posted on September 22, 2021 by under Community.

Finally had the opportunity to check out Social Tap, a new tap room on the Wichita State University campus. The campus has changed so much in the years since I’ve graduated. It actually looks pretty cool.

Untitled

The old Braeburn golf course has been transformed into Braeburn Square, a 20-acre area on the WSU campus that has restaurants, stores, and even a hotel. I’m not in the area much so I didn’t realize that there’s now a Hyatt Place on campus. Perfect for parents and other family members who are visiting.

Social Tap has a lovely outdoor patio that is perfect for gatherings. It’s a very nice setting with a view of the water and the Innovation Campus. I’m actually thinking of taking Brian there on a date. It’s been a while since we’ve ventured on the WSU campus. I think the last time was when we did our sculpture scavenger hunt a few years ago. It might be time do a 2021 edition of that cheap date idea.

I’m adding this to our growing list of to-dos to accomplish before the year is over. That’s all for now. Until next time. GNG.

Labor Day Weekend Achievement

Posted on September 21, 2021 by under Home Ownership.

Brian and I did some labor on Labor Day weekend. We’d been talking about reorganizing our basement storage room for a while (and when I say a while, I really mean a few years) but hadn’t gotten around to it until now. Things finally came to a head recently when we were running out of room to hide our crap. Here are a few pictures of the end result of our efforts.

It’s amazing how much space we really have in there once everything has gotten organized. We were able to move some of my fitness equipment from one of the basement guest bedrooms and we event have space for a legitimate crafting/gift wrapping table for me and also a gun cleaning table for Brian.

I am super pleased with the end result because now we can easily get to our luggage and also our Christmas tree for when it’s time to put up our Christmas decorations. I just love seeing how tidy our basement storage is now. Until next time, GNG.

Happy Hour with Pickleball Pals

Posted on September 20, 2021 by under Food and Drink, Hobbies.

We managed to talk Jody into coming out for drinks on her birthday weekend. We had happy hour at the Belmont, my absolute favorite place to drink pretty drinks.

Untitled

They also make very photogenic and delicious bruschetta.

Untitled

I didn’t get pictures of drinks this time because I already have several pictures of all of their fancy cocktails from previous visits. I did get pictures of some of our food.

After happy hour, Jen and I had the brilliant idea to go to Seneca Park for singles. Janelle apparently had the same idea because she was playing when I arrived. It was a nice night so the park was full of players. There wasn’t an empty court for singles so we ended up playing doubles with Dan Kautz and Erik Rasmussen.

I was very confused why Erik was there but, as I had already consumed a few drinks, I didn’t let the thought occupy my brain too long. Erik did manage to rattle my brain fog when he hit me with his serve. I’ve unintentionally hit people with my serve before but I’ve never been a victim of a Nasty Nelson myself until now. What hurt more than the impact of the ball on my belly was that he did this to me on purpose. What the heck?

Anyway, people started to leave and a couple of courts opened up so Jen and I were eventually able to play our singles as we planned. However, I caught Erik about to hit me again from the next court over. I gave him the evil eye and, much to my surprise, it was an effective deterrent.

A couple of days later, in a quest to figure out how I became a victim of a Nasty Nelson, I asked Dan what the heck Erik was doing at open play. I guess the two of them had the same idea as Jen and me. They went to the park hoping to find an open court for singles. I would say great minds think alike but I refuse to elevate Dan and Erik’s brains in that way. This was pure coincidence.

By the way, for someone who doesn’t play much singles, Jen is really good at it. Either that or, since singles leagues have ended, I’ve started to really suck at it. I refuse to believe that I’m awful at singles (because I enjoy it so much) so let’s just say Jen is a natural and leave it at that.

Random visits to Seneca Park are fun but that day reminded me of why I don’t drink and play pickleball (or why I shouldn’t). Until next time, GNG.

Another Day, Another Dinner

Posted on September 15, 2021 by under Food and Drink, Travel.

These are pictures from our dinner at Industry on Saturday night. It’s another restaurant that was close to the hotel and pickleball tournament venue. It was a really good location for a tournament, actually. It’s in a shopping area with lots of restaurants nearby for dinner options.

Anyway, cheese balls or cheese cubes must be an Oklahoma City thing because both restaurants we ate at offered their own version of it. Chris said the ones at Industry (the big round balls pictured above) were better than the cubes he had the previous night at S&B. Brian and I will be back in November. I curious to try some other places and see if they also offer some form of cheese ball or cheese cube thing.

Until next time. GNG.

S&B’s Burger Joint

Posted on September 14, 2021 by under Food and Drink, Travel.

The blog is behind so I’m going to attempt to catch it up this week. These are pictures from our dinner at S&B Burger Joint on our first night in Oklahoma City a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant was conveniently located close to our hotel and Lifetime Athletics where the pickleball tournament was being held.

I celebrated my 50/50 mixed doubles gold medal with Chris Wilson with a pretty drink. Chris had a peanut butter milkshake.

Untitled

The drink was good but not great. Honestly, it’s way prettier than it tasted. I enjoyed the bonus cotton candy that came with it.

Untitled

Pretty drinks are kind of my thing. LOL.

Anyway, Brian and I had a wonderful time hanging out with Chris, and Kimberly and Eric Howe at dinner. It was the perfect way to end the day and kick off tournament weekend.
