Wamego, Kansas
Posted on June 16, 2011 by Ching under Things to Do, Travel.
Brian and I decided to hit Wamego before heading home on Sunday. Why? Because I love exploring small towns. It’s one of my favorite things to do. 🙂
We braved the weather and decided to walk around the park.
My hair is a mess because it had been raining. LOL.
We had to take a picture of the Old Dutch Mill.
And the county jail…
Okay, so it’s not the real jail. =P
When it started really pouring, we decided to go back to the car. It was kind of yucky that morning. We still managed to make the most of it, though. Click here to see more of the pictures we took in Wamego.

No Small Town Street Dance
Posted on June 15, 2011 by Ching under Things to Do.
We left the Symphony site immediately after the concert because we didn’t want to get stuck there behind a slow moving parade of cars and also because we were told there was a small town street dance going on in Alta Vista that same evening. The lure of square dancing like what I saw in the movie Sweet Home Alabama was just too much for me to resist. So Brian and I followed some folks to Alta Vista.
We were both very excited to experience the whole small town street dance thing. We had bailes in Tanjay so I got to experience what street dances were like there, but I wanted to experience an American small town street dance. I want to do the whole square dancing thing. It just looks like so much fun. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, it looked like all the festivities were over. I guess a street dance just wasn’t in the cards for us that night.
Does anyone know of when there will be another small town street dance going on nearby? I would totally love to check one out one of these days.

More Pictures from the Symphony

Saturday was a beautiful day. The weather was absolutely perfect!
There must have been 8000 people there. Easy.
I was amazed at how many people came out considering that the event overlapped the Wichita River Festival and the Smoky Hill River Festival.
I had to take a picture of the smoking tent with all of the hay bales surrounding it. Nonsmokers Brian and I found it quite amusing. LOL.
Just goofing around, taking random pictures during the intermission…
We listened to the music as the sun set in the distance. It was truly a feast for the senses. I’m so grateful that Brian and I got to experience it. Finally.
The Symphony in the Flint Hills was awesome. I would totally do it again.

Symphony in the Flint Hills 2011

Bebot got a major workout this weekend. 300 miles worth. And on some crazy, winding dirt roads at that. Max took us on a wild ride through uncharted territory.
No this is not Brian showing off his new found muscles. He’s putting on some sunblock.
I have no idea why he decided to wear black.
Here’s a photo of this year’s Symphony site.
Pre-concert photo.. People not yet in their lawn chairs.
Another pre-concert photo.. Brian and I, just killing time.
Brian eventually got hot and changed into his white shirt. I think he just wanted to show off his leaner, sexier body. Guys always find reasons to take their shirts off.
Brian made some new friends.
We met these folks on Friday during our volunteer day and then ran into them again on Saturday in the parking lot. We decided to all sit together.
People are starting to show up. Getting closer to showtime.
Don’t ask. He told me it was to block the sun. Whatever.
BTW, you can rent chairs at the site so you don’t have to lug around your lawn chair. It can be quite a trek from the parking lot to the actual concert site. The nice thing about the rental chairs is that you don’t have to take them back. You just leave them at the end of the show. That to me is well worth the $2 chair rental fee.
Almost show time…
Alright. It’s 11 o’clock and officially past my bed time. I guess this is all for now. I will fill you in on more stuff and share more pictures later. Good night, all!
