New Phone

Posted on August 8, 2004 by under Toys.

Brian has remained true to his word and is letting me get a new phone this year.  I’ve had tons of fun using his old Nokia 3650 (he got a Nokia 3660 and gave me his 3650 as a hand-me-down).

Albeit clunky, my Nokia 3650 is loaded with features.  Brian has installed old school NES games and I have a neat video recorder that can record as long as my memory card can hold (instead of the default video recorder that only records for a minute or so).  I’ve got it set up to check and send email (a feature that I don’t really use frequently) and also to send pictures to my various mobile blogs that I’ve created and neglected.  I’ve had some fun times with my trusty Nokia.

Now, it’s time to say goodbye..

Not quite yet actually because we have to wait for my new phone to come – but it is coming!  Brian and I have decided on the Samsung D415.  Even though it’s got fewer features than my Nokia 3650, I’m pretty excited about trying it out.  For one, it’s way smaller and way cooler looking.  So I get a sleek phone, instead of one that looks like a freakin’ tv remote control, for a change.

The Samsung D415 retails for like $350 without signing up for service but with Brian’s employee discount, he can get it for about $100.  Not bad.  He says next year he gets upgraded to a 100% discount, so he can get any phone carried by T-Mobile for free.

I think I will like having the D415.  If not, I can always go back to my Nokia 3650.  Brian says that he’s willing to take my D415, if I don’t like it and then I would get to pick the free phone next year.  I think that’s his way of making up for all the years that he’s given me his hand-me-down phones.  I told him that even if I end up going back to my Nokia 3650, I would let him have his turn at picking out a phone next year.  Although, I may regret saying that later if a T-Mobile decides to carry a really cool phone.  We’ll see.
