Best Salad Ever

Posted on February 16, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

Brian and I made the best salad ever the other day. We made it in the morning and took it to work and it was all I could think of all day. When it was time to eat it, it was just as delicious as it looked.

Anyway, we are having the same salad for lunch today (light-ish lunch because we’re having dinner at Woodfire Grille at the Kansas Star Casino tonight). As excited I am about our dinner date, I’m pretty darn excited about this salad. LOL.

Sit @ Thai Bistro

Posted on February 15, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

Brian and I tried a new restaurant last Sunday after Zumba: Sit @ Thai Bistro on the West side of town. There’s actually a Sit @ Thai Express on the East side, but we went to the far one because I wanted to redeem my Groupon.

We started with the fried wontons first.

Predictably, I ordered the yellow curry for my entree. It’s what I always get whenever I try a new Thai place. It helps me decide whether or not I want to come back and try their other dishes.

Sit @ Thai Bistro on Urbanspoon

Brian had the fried rice with chicken. Yep. You probably called that one too. He doesn’t really like to try new things. Brian wasn’t that hungry so he had a lot of fried rice left over. I ate it for lunch the next day. It was really good. He didn’t think it was as good as his favorite fried rice at Thai House, though. We are split on this one because I think I actually like Sit @ Thai’s version better. Probably because it’s milder. The fried rice that we get at Thai House has a bit of a kick, even when you ask for it mild. Then again, now that Brian has a sense of the level of heat at Sit @ Thai, he could just order his fried rice medium next time.

What I like about Sit @ Thai versus Thai House is that you can actually sit and eat there. The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of seating. Brian and I went around 2:30 pm so it was well after the lunch rush. And we were there too early for dinner. Only one table was occupied when we arrived. After that group left, Brian and I were the only ones in the restaurant except for our server (who was very pleasant by the way). I like place where the people are friendly so they earned bonus points right off the bat. LOL.

I’d eat there again if they weren’t on the West side of town. I liked the restaurant enough that I would actually give Sit @ Thai Express on the East side a try. What about you? Have you tried Sit @ Thai before (either Bistro or Express)? What did you think? Did you like your food?

Quilts From Grandma

Brian and I went to grandma’s last Saturday so Brian could fix her computer. It was as simple fix. It just needed to be rebooted. Anyway, we ended up leaving with a couple of quilts from Brian’s great-grandmother. Grandma didn’t want to donate it Goodwill because she wanted to keep it in the family. We agreed to take good care of them for her. Thank you, grandma!

Louie’s Before the Dentist

Posted on February 12, 2013 by under Food and Drink.

We didn’t have time to go home after my Zumba class on Saturday, so we ended up hitting Louie’s (conveniently located by Wichita Family Dental) before our dental appointments on Saturday. Brian mused that it was times like these when he wishes that we still lived at the townhouse behind Cambridge Market. Then we could have gone home and fixed something to eat before going to the dentist.

Anyway, I’d already had Wasabi, Flying Stove, Abuelo’s, and Red Robin this month. What’s another restaurant? Technically, we’re supposed to eat out only once each month. As you can tell, I’m off to a terrible start. There’s more eating out to come too, with Valentines Day just around the corner.

On the plus side, we decided to split something so it’s not like we both ate big meals. The down side is that I ate my share and some of Brian’s too. LOL.

I wish they had bottomless fries at Louie’s because I love their fries. They’re not as good as the truffle fries at the Flying Stove or the skinny fries at Freddy’s, but they’re pretty good. Mostly I just like that they’re skinny. I prefer thinly cut fries to the fat steak fries any day.

Louie's Grill and Bar on Urbanspoon

I also like the spicy mac & cheese at Louie’s. It’s not really spicy, though. If it were, I wouldn’t like it. It’s got just enough kick to keep things interesting.

Even though we don’t live by Louie’s any more, it’s still my favorite bar. They make great drinks and they’ve got a pretty good menu. It’s not your typical bar food. You can actually eat an enjoyable meal here. I wish that we still lived in the Northeast part of town so we can be closer to our dentist and all Louie’s and all of our favorite places. Maybe we can move back to this side of town in a few years. Until then, visits to Louie’s will have to be limited to only once every few months or whenever we’re in the area and don’t have enough time to go home for food.
