Busy Easter Weekend

Brian and I had a busy weekend, but we managed to squeeze an hour of working out at gym. They had “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” at the Andover YMCA branch yesterday. (The Y was closed today for the holiday.)
After stopping by Target and a quick lunch, Brian and I were off to see Clash of the Titans (great movie, by the way — better than the original, I think). Then it was off to Cory and April’s for games and kabobs, which were delicious by the way. Kudos to Cory for not burning them. =P
The evening consisted of burning stuff in the backyard, poker, Apples to Apples and video games. It was 1 AM before we knew it.
This morning I woke up with the back pain I was suffering from the day before (only worse). Brian helped me stretch and rubbed the knot out, which made me feel better.
We left the house a little early and stopped by Ultimate Electronics to see if they have Brian’s TV (the Samsung one that he’s been drooling over for the last two weeks now). It’s there, but it’s still $2600. We’re going to have to a wait a little while. At least until the price goes down some more. They say the best time to buy a TV is May or June. I guess we’ll see how much the price drops at that point. I told Brian we can always stop in at Ultimate Electronics to visit his TV whenever he feels like it. LOL.
Had a great Easter supper today at Brian’s parents’ house. Of course, it involved more Apples to Apples (our new favorite game). Brian’s mom and grandparents had never played it before. They seemed to enjoy it.
Spent the rest of the day clipping coupons on the back patio (gotta find ways to save money so we can get Brian that TV he so desperately wants) and trying to enjoy the nice weather. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Booo! 🙁

Reminiscing About Old Times

As you know, I’ve been scanning and digitizing some old photos. Brian said I can can’t keep them anymore (they’re considered clutter) so I’ve been saving them on my Flickr where they will live forever (or until Flickr goes belly up, which I hope never happens because I have almost 30,000 photos on Flickr and it will be a catastrophe to have to transfer them elsewhere).
Here’s a couple of pictures I wanted to share with you all to show that I’m more than just a nerd with a computer, I’m someone’s daughter, someone’s friend, and a multifaceted human being too.
This is a photo of my mom and I at an one of my grade school graduations at Saint Francis of Assisi College in Las Pinas (Philippines). She’s giving me a medal because I graduated with honors. Woot! Woot! Go me! I’ve always been a nerd, ever since I was young. LOL.
My friends didn’t seem to mind either because there were still friends with me, despite my obvious nerdiness (hey, there were some perks such as getting to take home quizzes to grade – LOL).
The reason I’m not in my school uniform at the graduation is that my barkada and I performed at the ceremony. I loved to dance (still do) and we performed every chance we got. LOL.
Judging from our outfits in this picture, my guess would be this was a dance performance to the tune of Together Forever (by Rick Astley). We used to love that song because it held great meaning for us. We were always the “friends forever” types and we thought our barkada would be “together forever” also.
Now we’re living in various parts of the world. I’d lost touch with a few of them (Pia is the one I’d been in contact with the most; she actually came to our wedding and was one of my bridesmaids) over the years, but now we’ve reunited through Facebook. Gotta love social networking!

Guess Who’s in the Lead?

Brian was in the lead for a while, but since we returned from San Francisco I’ve taken over the lead. Just 16 more pounds to go!

March 2010 Final Friday

Brian decided he needed a mental health day so he took a vacation day on Friday. He had scheduled it the week before. When I found out how nice it would be that day, I went ahead and scheduled four hours of vacation on Friday afternoon also. It just so happened that Innovative Bodywork is doing a special on couples massages so I went ahead and scheduled one for us. After all of the stress of moving and work, we both really needed it.
After spending a couple of hours at Innovative for our massage and exfoliation, we met up with Jennifer Teves and her friends at Adrian’s. Food wasn’t as good as I remembered, but it was nice seeing Jen Teves. It’d been a while since we’d seen her.
Our next stop was Tangent Lab in Old Town. Brian’s friend Chris, who is an artist, helped with setting up the Scion Art Tour. It sounded really cool and the weather was favorable so we decided to check it out.
We’re really privileged to have tour come through Wichita because it features some really talented artists. Among them Dust La Rock, Eric Nakamura, Saelee Oh, French, Josh Graham, Monihan Monihan, Mark Mothersbaugh, PMKFA, Sage Vaughn and Ill-Studio. Wichita was the third of five stops: Los Angeles, CA; Austin, TX; Wichita, KS; Minneapolis, MN; and Brooklyn, NY.
Another neat thing about the Scion exhibit was all the swag they were giving away. Brian and I both got free shirts, socks (they were men’s socks so Brian got both of them), head phones (Brian’s were tan and mine were pink), Rod Azlan CDs, Scion booklet etc. You all know how much I love free stuff. LOL.
Our next stop was Shopkeepers Gallery, located above Hewitt’s Antiques and Splendid Stuff. Chris’ friend Mark Walker is curator there. The gallery is currently hosting the Friends University Photography Show featuring the works of Mandee Mabe, Amanda Klammer, Jaclyn Cage, Sara McVay and Andrew Becker.
I had no idea that there was an art gallery above Hewitt’s. I honestly wouldn’t have known about it if it weren’t for Chris. After browsing the works of the talented Friends University students, we headed to the Art of Healing to check out Lee Shiney‘s Old News exhibit. Lee Shiney is another friend of Chris’ and an enormously talented artist. Lee is one of three artists who participated in the interACTIVE exhibit at the Wichita Art Museum. His art has been featured in many exhibits.

While at the Art of Healing, we got to check out the 3,800 square foot loft above the commercial space. It’s quite impressive despite having only one bedroom. This bedroom is probably the largest bedroom I’d ever been in.
I would have taken more pictures, but my phone kept acting up. We had a really great time at Final Friday (even though we only made three stops). I can’t wait to attend the next one so that we can check out more of the participating galleries.
