You Gotta Clip!

My plans were foiled again. We met up with Misty and her niece April (who I hadn’t seen she was about seven years old; she’s a sophomore in high school now) for dinner and then we decided to go to Old Town Warren for Date Night. Bad idea. The movie was sold out by the time we got there.

We should have gone to 13th Avenue Warren which was just down the street from where we were. They have bigger auditoriums so it wouldn’t have been sold out there. By the time we got to OTW, it was too late to drive to the 13th one because the movie would have started.

Brian reminded me afterward that we were supposed to go to 13th because we were going to buy Iron Man 2 tickets (which went on sale this week, just FYI). After drinking an entire carafe of sangria by myself (Misty wouldn’t help me), I forgot. I told him he should have reminded me.

My memory is the first thing to go when I’m inebriated.

So anyway, we ended up watching Hot Tub Time Machine at April’s recommendation. It was actually better than I thought it would be. I still want to see Date Night, though. I think we will do $5 movie night at OTW this coming week so I can finally get that out of my system.

Death at a Funeral is another movie that looks like it would be really funny. I want to see that one, too. I guess Wednesday workouts are out for the next couple of weeks because we’re likely to watch that one on $5 movie night as well. LOL.

We did get our Iron Man 2 tickets last night, though. We stopped by 13th Avenue Warren on the way home and the box office was still open. We were the first people to buy tickets for the May 8th matinee in the balcony. We’re such nerds!

Brian’s been waiting for this movie since the first Iron Man. We had to make sure we got good seats.

Shopping for Toys

We took Matthias to Best Buy today to pick up a 32GB iPod Touch for one of his colleagues back in Germany. Apparently, electronics are much cheaper in the US. Probably partially because the value of the Euro is better.

Matthias did really well because he printed the web site page showing the iPod for only $269.99 (they were $299.99 at the store). Besides that, the store clerk didn’t charge him any sales tax so he got a really good deal for his friend.

While there, both Brian and Matthias took advantage of the opportunity to play with some iPads. They’re pretty neat. We’re too broke, though. I think we’re going to be late adopters on this one. =P

EWI Trivia Night

Brian and I just got home from the Executive Women International (EWI) Wichita Chapter’s trivia night, which is their annual fund raising event at Botanica. The theme this year was the Wild West. I was obviously at a disadvantage, but had loads of fun anyway. (Many thanks to Connie for inviting us!)

We had a great group of people at our table: Travis and Joni Paige, Don and Denise Sherman, Nick Bundy and Bri Tucker. We got two tables this year and the other table with Jim and Carol Ludwig, Karla Olsen, Hank and Connie Velghe (she’s the current president of the EWI Wichita chapter), Steve and Melanie Owens and Carol Ludy (a prospective EWI member) actually won. Hurrah!

I bid on a few silent auction baskets and, at one point, was actually worried that I might win all of them. I was worried because I didn’t have enough money for all of them. I really had money for only one auction basket (and barely at that). I bid on several so I had back ups.

At the end of the evening, I didn’t end up with any of them. We did, however, win two of the table centerpieces. We bought five raffle tickets and two of them turned out to be winners. Who would have thought?

It was very lucky too because the table centerpieces are really neat. Each centerpiece consisted of a bottle of wine and a single-bottle wine rack in the shape of cowboy spurs. Since we won twice, I actually ended up with a matching set. They currently grace our sofa table and look great. Now I want more Western themed stuff. LOL.

Spring 2010 Parade of Homes

Today was the first day of the Spring 2010 Parade of Homes. I had a lot of fun checking out the model homes with Brian, Misty and Darcy. Out of all of us, Darcy is actually the only one seriously in the market for a new house. Misty, Brian and I were out and about just for fun. LOL.

We started out with the more realistic houses at Auburn Hills. Darcy is very interested in The Woods, one of the subdivisions within Auburn Hills. Being a Parade of Homes virgin, we naturally had to take Misty to the million dollar model homes. LOL.

Sometimes when you start out with the million dollar houses, the other houses (despite being great in their own right) just pale in comparison. So we planned our route to check out the model homes in ascending value.

We were already on the West side of town so we checked out a few houses at Fiddler’s Cove in Maize, Kansas. Then we drove all the way to the East to check out Flint Hills National in Andover. These houses are so amazing that we were Ooohhh-ing and Aaahh-ing all over the place.
