Life Lock Protects Your Identity
Posted on May 30, 2008 by Ching under Life, Sponsored Post.
Brian and his coworkers were talking about Life Lock the other day. I guess a quite a few people are on it. He said Daylin, the director of the inside sales department, and her husband are both on it; as well as some people in technical marketing; and some people in accounting. The service is actually taking off. I think their TV commercials have really helped to increase awareness.
Brian asked me if I wanted to get on in. I still can’t bring myself to pay for the service because we can do a lot of this stuff ourselves. I’m thinking about it, though. After all, half a dozen Viega employees can’t be wrong. Right?
Here’s how it works: Life Lock asks the credit bureaus to set free fraud alerts on your behalf. These fraud alerts are renewed every 90 days unless you instruct them otherwise. These steps are actions that individuals can take themselves, but who will remember to reset these fraud alerts every 90 days? That’s one of the benefits of Life Lock. They will keep track of these things for you.
Life Lock also requests that your name be removed from pre-approved credit card and junk mail lists and we keep making the requests as they expire. These pre-approved credit card and junk mail offers are some of the ways that identity thieves steal your personal information. This is another thing that you can do for free, but it’s kind of a hassle so it’s nice to have a third party like Life Lock take care of the details.
Life Lock also orders free credit reports on your behalf from the major credit bureaus, which are sent directly to you. This is done every year. Again, this is something that you can do for yourself unless you’re just too busy. I actually do this for me and Brian already.
Although all of these things can be done for free, the nice thing about Life Lock is their promise to do whatever it takes to rectify the situation in the event of identity theft. If you need lawyers, they’ll provide the best lawyers around. If you need investigators, accountants, case managers, whatever, they’re yours. If you lose money as a result of the theft, we’re going to give it back to you. Life Lock provides this guarantee up to $1,000,000.
Anyway, the service is fantastic and Brian’s coworkers swear by it. We’re not on it yet, but we might just be because it sounds like a really good deal. We will let you guys know what we decide.

Bradley Fair Summer Concerts
Posted on May 29, 2008 by Ching under Life, News.
It’s time again for the summer concert series. I almost forgot all about it, if not for Welsly’s email today. We totally missed it last year and only got to see one the year before, but it used to be our most favorite thing to do. We would bring our picnic blankets, a couple of books, and sometimes our chess set, and just hang out on the other side of the water.
It would get pretty crowded so we’d get there early and stake claim to our spot. We’d play chess or read or just hang out while waiting. When the music starts, we’d just lay and cuddle while enjoying the music and the wonderful evening.
You can find more information and the performance schedule here. (Thanks to Welsly for emailing the file.)
June 5: Grady Nichols
June 12: Fingerprints
June 19: Greg Adams
June 26: Joseph Vincelli
July 3: Matt Marshak
*fireworks will follow at 9:30 PM
It’s a shame that we won’t be able to make the first two concerts in the series. Brian will be in New Hampshire next week, and I will be in rates school the following week. I definitely want to be there for the final concert and fireworks, though. I don’t think we have any big plans for the 4th of July because we are going to Vegas a couple of weeks after that to attend Corey and April’s wedding (more on that later).
Anyway, I wanted to share the info about the concerts. Hope everyone has a wonderful summer.

Bowling Finals on TV
Posted on May 29, 2008 by Ching under News, School.
I read this in the latest Wichita State newsletter. How exciting!
Shocker fans have seen the pictures and read the stories, but soon they can watch the National Championship Finals on CBS College Sports. The recorded-for-TV finals of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships will air at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, starting with the women’s championship match between WSU and Pikeville College. The telecast of the men’s championship match featuring WSU will air at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6. Both telecasts will air on CBS College Sports, which can be found on Cox Cable on channel 260. Satellite subscribers can view the championships on channel 610 for DIRECTV and channel 152 on Dish Network.

Announcement Postcards and More
Posted on May 27, 2008 by Ching under Sponsored Post.
My 100 announcement postcards from VistaPrint only cost me $10, compared to the $40 that it costs me to get postcards at Prints Made Easy. Now I use VistaPrint for all my stuff. I was so happy with VistaPrint that I even ordered some magnets to use for recognition in my work group.
I have three large magnets to recognize the CSR with the highest availability, the highest number of calls per day, and the highest number of calls per hour. Then I also got several smaller magnets to recognize CSRs for perfect attendance. Their products are pretty versatile and have several uses. All you need is a little imagination and creativity.

Surprise Party
Posted on May 24, 2008 by Ching under Family, Flickr, Life.
Brian threw me a surprise party last Sunday. He had been acting weird the days leading up to it so I kinda-sorta knew something was up. After we picked up Jan at her house, it looked like we were driving to his parents’ house so I knew where he was taking me even though he had Jan blindfold me half-way through. He didn’t drive around to various places to disorient me. He wasn’t tricky about it or anything, so I could tell where we were going.
It wasn’t fun being blindfolded. That’s for sure! It actually made me feel somewhat queasy. When we got there, I was surprised by Bill and Lisa (their kids, Mia and Charlie were there too), April and Corey, Grandma and Grandpa, and David and Donna. Chad, Jay, and Becca came too, but they did not arrive until later. I really didn’t think we were doing anything special because we had just celebrated the previous Sunday (for Mother’s Day) and we were celebrating again tonight. I figured we would just skip last weekend. As it is, we have been celebrating for various reasons three weeks in a row. I can’t argue, though, because I love celebrating. I think everyday is a reason to celebrate.
Here are pictures of Brian and Jan leading me to the door blindfolded:

Brian and I continue our post graduation celebration today by getting a well-deserved hour-and-a-half couples massage at Beau Monde. That’s this afternoon.
SIDE NOTE: I deserve it for going to school full time and work full time, nonstop, since 2003. Brian deserves it for putting up with me.
After that we are picking up Grandma and Grandpa and taking them to the Brubakers for one final family dinner before David and Donna leave for their thirteen-day Baltic cruise. They leave on Tuesday and will be celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary on the trip.
As for Brian and I, we are going to see the last balcony showing of Indiana Jones after dinner. Then we’ll have to get up early the next day to drive to Kansas City. We are hitting Legends Mall, playing a poker tournament at Harrah’s on Sunday, spending the night there, and then playing another poker tournament on Monday before heading back. There may be some other gambling and other activities mixed in, depending on how quickly we get knocked out of the tournament. Hopefully, that won’t be the case though. I’d like to be able to make it to the final table and maybe even win the whole thing. That would be nice.
It’s going to be a long weekend, one that we will probably need to recover from at some point. Ugh. I tried to talk Brian into waiting to see Indiana Jones until next weekend, but he whined and moaned and groaned and protested that it will not be in the balcony next weekend so we must see it today. I hope the movie doesn’t disappoint because we didn’t even get my favorite seats =P and we are having to watch it late so we can squeeze in into our tight schedule this weekend and it will probably make us really, really tired.
I shouldn’t complain, though. Brian and I have been looking forward to this weekend for several weeks now. Please be sure to check out my photostream on Flickr, as I will post pictures as the weekend progresses. Have a wonderful and safe Memorial weekend, everyone!
