I May Just Kill Myself this Weekend

Posted on September 20, 2008 by under Life, Movies, Poker.

I was back on the workout wagon and then off again. The last couple of weeks, I haven’t been able to work out during the week because of various things coming up. Sometimes we’ve got other, more pressing, things going on after work. Other times I bring my workout gear to work with the full intention of working out after work, but am unable to change into my workout clothes because I’m super busy or I get stuck on an escalation or question. I hate going to the workout classes late because everyone is already doing the warm up or the exercise or whatever while you’re walking in there and then you still have to put your equipment together (if there’s any left, we routinely run out of weights in muscle pump because people lift tonnage), be it step, barbell, free weights, bands etc. By the time you’re warmed up and ready to go, the class is halfway or, worse yet, it’s over. Besides that, some workout classes are so popular that the room gets so crowded. Unless you’re there to stake claim to your spot, there’s really not any room for you (core class is like this).

Even though I’ve consistently missed my weekday workouts the past couple of weeks, I’ve gone religiously the past couple of weekends. I did my two workout classes on Saturday, and even lived through two workout classes on Sunday. However, consistently making it to my weekday workouts has been my Moby Dick so to speak.

I know this is kind of a cop out because I promised myself a little while ago that I will go to the gym regardless of how late I am for the workout class. I had vowed just to get on the treadmill, and wait for the next class to begin instead of nixing my entire workout altogether. I haven’t delivered on that promise at all lately the last two weeks. So I guess I’m feeling some guilt over trying to rationalize missing my workouts. That might be the reason that I might just try to kill myself this weekend.

I have been sneezing non-stop. I have super congestion, and am blowing gross green snot out of my nose (not the usual clear stuff). I can seriously feel how much snot I have in my head because of my facial sensations. I have a sinus headache, sore throat, and a bit of a fever. Also, I noticed that I’ve developed an eye twitch (left side) the last couple of days. I don’t know if that’s because my sinus cavities are overloaded with snot or what, but I was thinking about it last night while playing poker. I thought, gosh I hope that my eye doesn’t start twitching in the middle of a hand or the other players might think I’m bluffing kind of like that bad guy in Casino Royale. That was a great movie.

But I digress… What I’m trying to say is that, I’m going to my usual Saturday workouts today despite how horrible I’m feeling right now. I think, in part, I’m trying to punish myself for not working out during the week. For reneging on my promise. For not being as dedicated as I should be. If I fail, then this could go very, very badly. If I succeed, however, I may just scare the bejeezus out of my sickness. Maybe I can get it to go away by showing it how tough I am? I am the boss of my body, and I say that I’m not going to sick right now. Take that, sickness! How about that, huh?

P.S. As part of my death wish, I’ve also only had less than five hours of sleep today. We didn’t get home from poker until midnight. We chowed down on some fried chicken as soon as we got home because we had the munchies. That probably wasn’t a very good idea, but I was thinking maybe I could add heart attack to my list of possible causes of death. Since we ate, we couldn’t go to bed right away so it was probably almost two in the morning by the time we were wound down enough to go to sleep. And, guess what. I’m up right now blogging. I’ve been up since six o’clock or so. I’ll let you know how I fare this weekend. Wish me luck.

20 Questions

Posted on September 15, 2008 by under Memes.

1) If you chose a new name for yourself, what would it be? Superman.

CHING: What? Really?
BRIAN: Sure.

2) If you were given an extra $10 in change at Wal-Mart, what would you do with it and why? Give it back. Bad karma.

CHING: I answered this the exact same way. We are so compatible!

3)What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your past relationships? Patience.

CHING: That’s it? That’s all you’re going to say? Alright. Next question…

4) What’s one of your worst habits? Not bathing everyday, I guess.

CHING: At least he’s being honest.

5) What was the best day of the past week for you and why? I didn’t have any good days last week.

CHING: Wow, that’s so depressing. Not at all? Not a one?

6) What are you wearing today that is most reflective of who you are? Nothing, because I like being naked.

CHING: He really is wearing nothing right now.

7) Choose a unique item from your wallet and explain why you carry it around? My ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, so that the next time an emergency vehicle comes through and I pull over immediately and cause an accident I can show it to the police officer.

CHING: You still have that thing in your wallet?

8) If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be and why? I’d be more fit-looking because Ching likes it.

CHING: I do? What? Really?

9) What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Chocolate covered ants.

CHING: What? When was that?
BRIAN: In Tennessee.
CHING: Really?
BRIAN: They taste like rice crispies. I ate a roasted tarantula, too. The legs taste like rock candy.

10) What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer? Go to the drive-in.

BRIAN: What? You didin’t have any smart-alecky remarks about the drive-in.
CHING: No. I like going to the drive-in.

11) Name one of your favorite things about someone in your family. My dad’s sense of humor.

12) What three words best describe you? Patient, loving, and funny.

CHING: Funny-looking!

13) If you were forced to sing one karaoke song, what would it be? I better be forced at gun point, and it better be a really big gun. Umm… Aenema by Tool.

14) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? That’s a damn good question, because there’s a lot of places that I’d like to live. Most of them South, and most of them warm. Probably my own island. I’ve always wanted my own island. Some place where I could walk around naked and not give a shit.

15) Do you collect anything? If so, what? I used to collect action figures. I don’t anymore, though. I used to collect comic books also.

16) Would you bungee jump? Hell, yes! I already did. It was fun. I’d do it again, too.

17) Were you named after anyone? I’m not named after anyone.

CHING: What about your middle name?
BRIAN: My middle name is my dad’s first name and my brother’s middle name is my dad’s middle name, but I’m not actually named after anyone.

18) What do you usually think about right before falling asleep? I usually tell myself a story to get me to go to sleep.

CHING: Like what? And you don’t tell me stories?
BRIAN: No, it’s just in my head. They’re usually very brief. Just enough to get me to go to sleep.

19) If you were given a million dollars and 24 hours to spend it in, what would you buy (no depositing it in the bank or investing it)? I would probably play poker.

CHING: That’s not what you told me when you answered this the other day. Copy cat.
BRIAN: Well, that’s before you told me that you wanted to play poker.

20) Besides karaoke what is the one thing that you loathe the most? Stupid people.

CHING: Excluding yourself, right? Just kidding!

The Ponderosa Poker Posse (what’s left of the old group, anyway) poses for a picture outside Cracker Barrel.

This is the post-dinner huddle where we agreed that we’d rather eat donuts for three hours than pay $50 bucks to see a football game. Well, most of us anyway. Cory wants to go. Brian is the exact opposite. You couldn’t pay him to go. LOL.

A good time was had by all. Although, Dill totally massacred me at checkers. Ugh.

The Fruits of Our Labor

These are the fruits of our labor on Sunday. After working on cleaning out the basement, we ended up with Brian’s truck bed completely full of stuff, David’s trailer completely full also, and then we ended up just piling junk along the side of the house because we simply ran out of room. The funny thing is that David has been meaning to clean out the basement for years now. He just hasn’t gotten around to it. Now the basement is completely cleared of junk. It sucks that it took a catastrophe such as this to get the basement cleaned out, but the upside is that it is. There’s always a silver lining, right?

Obviously, because Brian’s truck was full of junk we just ended up leaving it there for the day. We are lucky that we can carpool. Brian and I drove to work together this morning and then he took the afternoon off so he could help his dad take all that stuff to the dump. I drove him there at lunch and then he just took the truck home when they were finished.

By the way, just so you all know, the city dump won’t accept clothing, fabrics, and plastics. Brian and his dad ended up going across the street to the Waste Management facility to dispose of most of the stuff. Brian said it was more expensive, but worked out better because then they didn’t have to sort through the stuff. Waste Management will take anything. Good to know for future reference. Although, Brian will probably tell you that he’d much rather not have to go there again because the rotting, decaying garbage stank to high heaven.
