My Teammates Rock

Posted on May 4, 2006 by under School.

Not only did we take first in Market Share and second in Cumulative Net Income and Stock Price but we also got 100 in our presentation! Perry’s comments are as follows:

Team 1D,

I have graded your final presentation and want to give you feedback on it. Please see my comments below.

1. Initial Strategy In beginning your presentation with your mission statement and three-point Our Strategy slide you made your initial strategy immediately clear. Moreover the explanation that you offered for why you developed the strategy that you did (based on your collective, personal backgrounds) showed that you had thought deeply about what your strategy should be and developed a strategy to which you all were committed. This level of analysis, to realize why you developed the strategy that you did, was remarkable.

2. Strategy Change Your discussion of how your strategy changed during the simulation was, for me, the best part of an outstanding presentation. You did an excellent job of illustrating your early strategy and talking about how it changed. In the How our Strategy Changed section of your presentation, you did a good job of succinctly explaining how and why your strategy changed overall. But I was most impressed by your self-identification of the strategic drift that you experienced as a team. This self-identification again showed that you had thought deeply about your simulation experience and analyzed yourself. This was simply outstanding.

3. Teamwork It seemed that you worked well together as a team and you did a good job describing the communication norms that you developed.

4. Decision Making Excellent. You did a good job of describing both your decision-making process and structure.

5. Key Strategic Moves The secrets of your success you offered seemed right on-target. It seemed that the eight factors that you listed as the secrets of your success were the factors that indeed contributed most to the success you experienced. When I saw your slide it seemed to me that every other team could have learned from your experience. You made a lot of good strategic moves.

6. Current Position You did a good job of indicating where your firm currently stands overall in the simulation and where each of your vehicles stands.

7. Would Have Done Differently The three points that you suggested where you would have made changes if you had it to do over again (financing stock vs. bonds, miscalculating demand, and COGS) were right on-target. I think these are exactly the three areas of concern in which different decisions made have resulted in better outcomes.

8. Company Future You clearly showed that now, at the end of the simulation, you are in a great position as a firm. Based on your position, I agree with your assessment that I think that you could have been able to takeover the industry leader position in stock price and cumulative net income. Moreover I thought that your proposals for the future were strong. You did not simply state that we will continue doing what we have been doing. You showed that you had thought about your future and you offered specific, innovative ideas for your future. I particularly liked your plan to acquire firm E.

9. Lessons It seems that you really engaged the simulation and learned a lot from it. The lessons you offered followed perfectly from your experience, and again, you demonstrated that you had thought about your experience and extrapolated from it in developing your lessons. You did a good job.

10. Questions You did a good job of answering my questions.

Simply put your presentation was outstanding. You exceeded all expectations that I had for the final presentation. Therefore I gave you a 100 for your Case Presentation score.

Our MGMT 681 Group

I’m not this short really. I’m just hunched over. I promise!

This group totally rocked the MGMT 681 simulation. We dominated in the area of market share and we were leading in stock price. We ultimately finished second in stock price and cumulative net income, and then first in market share but I think had the simulation continued we would’ve blasted everyone right out of the water.

Our presentation was beautiful! Jen even did a commercial for our company. It was outstanding! Except for the minor technical difficulties in the beginning I think it went well.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over my presentation anxiety, though. I’ll always get the jitters no matter what.

Cheers to an awesome group!

A Crappy Day

Posted on May 1, 2006 by under Babies.

I had a crappy day..  Literally!

It’s like 5:45 am and Molly is yelping and whimpering and crying.  I try to tune out the noise.  It’s not time yet!  I normally don’t get up to let her out until sixish.

You want to know what she was crying about?  Well, the little turd bucket peed and crapped inside the crate.  As if that wasn’t enough, she scooped up the poop and smeared them all over the door of the crate.  Needless to say, my morning started out with cleaning the nasty, poop-stained crate and giving my little turd monster a bath.

Giving her a bath isn’t the easiest of tasks either.  Now that she has more energy, she actually fights it.  Her bath this morning took twice as long as the first couple of times that we’d given her a bath.  Of course, she was sickly and lethargic back then.  Sometimes I miss the old Molly.  I wish she would be a little more mellow (without being sick) because lately she’s been a bit of pain.

We had no idea what we were getting into.

Sometimes I Hate this Place!

Will it be a 'Day Without Immigrants'?

Will it be a ‘Day without Immigrants’?

Organizers predict unprecedented participation at rallies against a proposed crackdown on illegal immigration, with millions expected to boycott jobs and schools. “A Day without Immigrants” is meant to show the economic power of immigrants

Front page on CNN.Com

“Oh, No! The toilets in our schools and offices will not get cleaned”. Yes that was mean I know it, but come on. These people have to be the dumbest people on the planet if they think that this law affects them and only them. I mean if they took a moment and looked at the law they would realize that the law affects ALL illegal immigrants, the Irish, the Russian, the Asian AND the Hispanics, not JUST them. This is an issue that will probably never go away. As long as our borders are open and we allow immigration of other countries into our country their will always be controversy over immigration. One of my coworkers said that we should just take over Mexico since they all want to be Americans so bad. Then they would have no reason to bitch and they would have no reason to immigrate to the U.S. I actually agree with that. If they all want to be Americans so dammed bad then fine, lets just make Mexico, the Virgin Islands and all of those places American territory, declare them as states and start taxing the fuck out of them. Then let’s see them bitch about something. The fact of the matter is illegal immigrants that are working here and not paying taxes, but getting paid in American dollars are hurting our economy not helping it. The only reason I see that these people are complaining is because they will either 1, have to return to Mexico and start new lives in poverty their or 2. Will have to fork over a little over $700 to get their citizenship. Unless the U.S. cuts some kind of deal with them and lets them in for nothing. I think that if they are going to come in for nothing then they should have to pay back taxes for the duration of time they were here illegally.

I could go on about this all day long so I better quit now before I “offend” some of the delicate people that may wonder across this board. I wouldn’t want to piss them off and have them complain that I’m some sort of a racist. On the contrary, I could give a rat’s ass who comes to this country, as long as they are doing it the right way and following all of the laws. Like my wife and her family did, of which 3 out of the 4 of them are now citizens of the U.S. because they followed the proper process and laws and paid their dues to become citizens.

If you’re protesting and complaining about immigration laws, then you must have something to hide or to loose. Otherwise you would not have anything to complain about. This law only helps those that are already citizens and the rest of us hard working tax paying Americans.
