Secret Window

Posted on July 16, 2004 by under Movies.

Brian and just got done watching Secret Window.  It’s not bad.  The story is pretty good.  It’s just a shame that I figured it out within the first ten minutes.

I kept hoping that there would be some kind of plot twist to prove me wrong.  But there wasn’t.  That was the disappointing part.

Sushi Pig-Out

Posted on July 16, 2004 by under Food and Drink.

Brian and I had another sushi pig-out session last night. If we had our way, though, we would drive all the way to Kansas City and pig-out with sushi from Kona Grill. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Here in Wichita, there is nowhere else that has better sushi than Sumo.

Last week, we were craving sushi. We decided to go to Sumo, only to find out that they were closed. They closed for a week and half for Fourth of July holiday. It’s kind of a mom-and-pop operation — it’s not a chain restaurant — so they must’ve gone on vacation or something. Felipe’s Jr. does that “we are closed for two weeks” stuff all the time.

We ended up at Hana Cafe because we didn’t know anywhere else that served sushi.  It’s just not the same.  It’s nowhere near Sumo calibre and it’s not even in the same galaxy as Kona.

When we went out to eat at Sal’s (another Japanese hibachi steakhouse) for Misty’s birthday, I found out that they serve sushi there.  Brian was upset when he found out because I think he would’ve gone.  They’re not even as good as Hana Cafe, though.  And your sushi choices are very limited.

Brian tried to get us some sushi from Sumo on Tuesday but he said it was very busy.  I guess everyone who tried to go the week prior thought of going that week to get their sushi fix.  Sumo is never busy on weekdays.  I’m thinking that the closing for a week thing was a marketing ploy to rejuvenate interest in their restaurant.  LOL!  Anyway, Brian ended up bringing me PF Chang’s for dinner instead.  Which is good, too.

We finally got our Sumo sushi fix last night.  The financial damage wasn’t too bad.  But, I must say, Kona gives you better quality sushi and more quantity for the same price.  We really have to go there again sometime.

Poker at Fingers

Posted on July 15, 2004 by under Poker.

I was afraid that last Monday would be our final night of playing poker at Fingers so I brought my camera. I wanted to take pictures of everyone in case I never saw them ever again.

It has been so much fun playing poker every week with all of these guys. Ours is an eclectic diverse group of good, fun people.

As it turns out, we get to play poker at Fingers through August! Yay!

I thought I would share these pictures with you all, though. Maybe it will persuade some of you to come and join us next Monday.

Brotherhood of the Wolf

Posted on July 10, 2004 by under Movies.

One small victory for Ching, a huge step for mankind..  Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Brian said, “This is yet another one of your stupid foreign films.”

I said, “But I heard it’s really good.  At least give it a chance.”

As a compromise, we put it on in the office as background entertainment while we were playing poker.  Five minutes into the movie, I had to quit both of the tables I was playing on Ultimatebet.  Brian continued to play poker and watched with half-interest.  But then ten minutes into the movie, he stopped playing altogether as well.

I scored yet another domestic victory for the foreign film aficionados of the world.
