Happy Thanksgiving
Posted on November 23, 2007 by Ching under Family, Flickr.
We had an abundance of food at Thanksgiving today. Per usual, we spent Thanksgiving with Brian’s family. His mom is a wonderful cook who enjoys having everyone over. Bill and Lisa, from across the street, and their kids Mia and Charlie were with us also.
After a hearty meal, Brian fixed a plate for Chad and took the food to him at work. That was a really nice gesture. By the time he returned, we were ready for dessert. We had Cheesecake Factory’s Italian cream cake, the kind you get at Sam’s. I had to keep grandma and Lisa from eating too much of the homemade moose munch mix (Brian and I mixed chocolate covered caramel popcorn, peanut butter M & M’s, and chocolate covered pretzels together so that Brian could feel like he actually made something) so that they would have room for cake. Lisa wasn’t happy about the 400 calories. I quickly pointed out that the calories from the caker were the least of our worries. The meal we had was an easy two to three thousand calories, but who cares? It’s Thanksgiving. You’re supposed to eat your heart out.
After dessert we played several rounds of Catchphrase (many thanks to Cannady Girl for giving it to me for my birthday). I love that game! We had played it at Bill and Lisa’s new year’s eve party over a year ago and I wanted the game ever since. We couldn’t find it at Wal-Mart when we checked, though. Then we figured I could just add it to a birthday or Christmas list and maybe someone would get it for me. 😉
Brian, Lisa, and I teamed up against grandma, David, and Bill. Our team lost every single round. It wasn’t until we traded Brian for grandma that we actually won one. I couldn’t tell if it was losing Brian that helped us win or if it was grandma’s contribution to the team. It was so much fun playing, though.
Before going home, Brian and I went to my parents’ house to drop off some presents. While there, we played some more Catchphrase. It was super fun. Mom found the game a bit of a challenge, but she seemed to genuinely enjoy it. She is actually considering getting their own game so I can practice.
I found out that mom, dad, and Jen all went to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Tejanos in Newton. All of Tita Esper’s kids (except for the eldest) were home for the holidays. Maybe if we can get into our new house by Thanksgiving next year we can bring everyone together, both the Brubakers and the Alonsos, for Thanksgiving. We’ll probably need to get help from Picadilly like we did last year when we did Thanksgiving for the grandparents. David and Donna were in Texas.
Anyway, if we can’t get into our new house until much later that will be okay too. I’m sure that there will be many, many more Thanksgiving holidays to celebrate with family in the years to come. I just wish that the family would reunite (Brian’s brother Kevin has been estranged for some time but we found him accidentally through our fall parade of homes adventures). Lisa had some pretty good ideas this afternoon. Grandma said she didn’t think that Kevin would return until after she passes. Donna said probably not until after she is gone. I think it will happen much, much sooner than that specially if we heed Lisa’s advice. It’s time to get the family back together.

The Fabulous Fleshtones
Posted on November 18, 2007 by Ching under Flickr.
We went to see Doug’s band play last night at O’Sullivans (formerly My Room). They played at Stooges the last time but I had tons of school work that weekend. This weekend was a semi-free weekend for me, though. I get the week of Thanksgiving off so I’m taking a break from school work. Anyway, here are some of the pictures we took.

Recap of Today
Posted on November 11, 2007 by Ching under Flickr, Life.
Today has been pretty interesting. I had a 9:00 AM waxing appointment at Beau Monde that I almost missed. My reminder on my phone said my appointment was 10:15 AM. At about 9:15 I called over there to double check the appointment time because I thought I heard the girl say 9:00 AM on my reminder phone call. I had deleted the voicemail already, though, so I couldn’t play it back. But I was thinking, it can’t be 9:00 AM because I have 10:15 AM on my phone.
I’m really glad I called over there because it turns out that my appointment was for 9:00 AM. Thankfully, Patricia’s appointment after me came early so she was finished with her and had time to squeeze me in. Good thing we live pretty close to the spa.
At first I thought it was the time change that messed up my phone reminder. Brian figured it out, though. The reminder I had on my phone was an old reminder for my appointments at Individually Yours. I normally schedule appointment for the entire year so I had the reminder already saved on my phone. He concluded that I forgot to delete it and thought that it was my Beau Monde appointment.
Patricia is now at Beau Monde so I moved over there with her. I only scheduled my next two appointments, November 24th and December 8th. I think next time I go I will go ahead and schedule the rest of my appointments for 2008 so I can make my phone reminders. Brian and I went ahead and schedule a couples massage for December 8th also. We figured it could be our Christmas for each other. Brian had a massage from Janelle two weeks ago but it has been almost six months since my last one. I haven’t had a massage since our couples massage at Couples Ocho Rios. I need one real bad.
After my waxing appointment, Brian and I grabbed a quick breakfast at McDonald’s and then went to Target. I received a gift card there for my birthday and hadn’t had the opportunity to use it until today. I found a black short-sleeved blazer for $24.99 and then while we were there we found some other tops for me to get. I have to get some more professional clothes because we are moving to a much nicer building with a much stricter dress code soon.
I love Target because they have some awesome deals. I thought I would take some pictures and start a Christmas wish list for Brian. I took some good photos, but one of the things I was thinking of putting on his Christmas wish list he decided to buy right then.
We found this 125 PSI 6-gallon air compressor with a bonus nail kit on sale for $79. Brian’s dad has a 100 PSI non-portable one that cost him more than twice that. Needless to say, we ended up getting it because we were afraid that they would sell out before Christmas. It was such a good deal that Brian’s dad and his friend Brad decided to get some for themselves too. So now Brian’s dad has two air compressors. Why you would need two is beyond me. Guys always make fun of women for having five pairs of black shoes, but they do the exact same thing only with power tools.
Anyway, we had set aside some money for our Kansas City trip this weekend so I think we will be okay with today’s expenditures. Brian and I don’t like to keep a balance on our one and only credit card so it will get paid off on Monday night as soon as we return.
Actually, Brian refuses to use the credit card even though it earns us points. He keeps insisting on using the debit card. I can’t seem to convince him that we benefit more if we use the credit card because we will earn points for every dollar spent; where as we don’t get anything for using the debit card. Besides that, there is the added convenience of not having to balance the checkbook as frequently since you just have to pay one place at the end of the month instead of paying multiple different places. I can’t seem to sell him on the idea. I might just have to do a financial analysis of our monthly expenses to show him how many free gift cards we would earn by simply using our credit card instead of our debit card. We are totally missing out.

Pictures, Pictures
Posted on November 6, 2007 by Ching under Family, Flickr.
This is the blog where I catch you up on the events of the past weekend. Since pictures speak a thousand words, let’s have the pictures do the talking.
Saturday was spend at mom and dad’s where we had a double birthday celebration for Cannady Girl and me.
Don’t worry. Logan is drinking sparkling apple cider only. We may be corrupting him by teaching him how to play poker but we don’t let him drink alcoholic beverages.
