Our Busy Weekend

Posted on April 14, 2008 by under Family, Life.

Anyone want this?

In the process of fixing up the old office, we had to get rid of a bunch of things. One of these items being my old desk.

At first our initial plan was to just donate this to Goodwill and get a tax receipt for next year. Then, I had heard from Jan that Bree and Rob were looking for a desk so we were going to just give this to them. Several days passed and we hadn’t heard anything back from them about wanting the desk. Jenni found out that I was getting rid of it and she didn’t have one in her room so she said she wanted it. So then we were going to give it to her.

We were supposed to deliver it last weekend, but then I got sick so we postponed delivery to last Saturday, April 12. We figured we were coming over to bring dad his birthday present anyway.

So we met Jan for brunch at the Good Egg to start off our day. The Good Egg is starting to grow on me. Their stuff is still a tad over priced but they make a mocha cappuccino with lots and lots of whipped cream, just the way I like it, so they place is growing on me.

Jan mentioned that the new Barnes & Noble at Bradley Fair is now open so Brian and I decided to swing by on the way home to get the desk. The place is very nice, actually. The parking isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I will save my assessment of the location for my next blog, though.

So we got home and tackled the task of moving the desk. The hutch doesn’t detach. Believe me. We tried. It was a real challenge maneuvering it out the door. Brian actually assembled the desk in the room so we didn’t have a hard time bringing it in. Getting it out was a real hassle. We had to remove the cardboard backing of the filing cabinet section just so we would have something to hang on to while lifting it. This thing was heavy, as most good quality desks are… Anyway, as we struggled to get it out of the house and on the truck and Brian and thought of how difficult it would be to get into mom and dad’s house and down the stairs to basement and into Jenni’s room. Ugh. Just the thought of it made me cringe.

As much as I didn’t want to part with a perfectly good desk and as much as I wanted to find a good home for it, Brian and I decided to just go with our original plan of donating it to Goodwill. At least, there are two guys there who will help us get it off the truck.

We still went to mom and dad’s to deliver dad’s birthday gift. We ended up staying later than we wanted because we (well, Brian didn’t really care but I did) wanted to meet Jenni’s new guy, Adam. She strategically managed an incidental meeting by accidentally thinking that Signum was performing in Derby that night rather than April 19. Lolz.

Brian said he would take me to see The Other Boleyn Girl but it was no longer playing at the Warren. We ended up coming home and watching Sweeney Todd instead. That is a weird movie. Very bloody and very weird.

Yesterday we met the Brubakers for brunch at Legends at the Hilton. I will write more about that next time. I will post pictures too so don’t forget to come back.

Official Commencement Invitation

Posted on April 3, 2008 by under Family, Flickr, Life, School.

Official Commencement Invitation

I received my official commencement invitation today. We got the short stick this year. Our ceremony is at 8:00 am, which means graduate check in is at 7:00 am. Way too early.

I told Brian that we need to buy my graduation regalia this Saturday. The WSU bookstore is open until 2:00 pm. I should be done with the Green Team thing well before noon so Brian and I will have plenty of time.

I thought I would be smart and save my cap and gown from undergrad. I figured I would save some money this way. WSU is a lot smarter than I am. The masters graduation regalia is different than the undergrad regalia, unfortunately. This means I have to spend $50 out of my own pocket. Maybe someone will be nice and donate some funds to my Paypal as a graduation gift (hint, hint).

Anyway, I will be well-decorated this year since I am part of Golden Key and Beta Gamma Sigma. Go me!

The only downside is that Jen’s graduation is the same day as mine. I’m guessing mom and dad will go to that one. I will have Brian, Donna (Dave has something going on that day), and Jan in my corner at least. =P

No word yet on a graduation feast. You figure that I deserve it with this being a masters and all. Call it a fee for missing my graduation.

Anyway, those who cannot make it can watch commencement webcast on Shockervision.tv (click on the Commencement link). Select the May 17th, 8:00 am ceremony.

P.S. You can go here to view past commencement videos. Click on the Search tab, then select the May 13, 2006 Barton School of Business commencement video to watch my undergrad commencement video from two years ago.

Happy Easter

Posted on March 23, 2008 by under Family, Life.

An Easter Photo

This has got to be my favorite Easter photo. Brian looked so cute in his pastel green suit. Simply adorable!

Anyway, today will be spent at the Brubakers. Grandma and Grandpa went to church with Dave and Donna this morning and then we are meeting up at Dave and Donna’s for a late Easter lunch. I would have gone to church, too. Brian didn’t want to, though.

In hindsight, I’m glad we didn’t commit to going because I’m achey all over. Brian and I decided to renew our gym membership last week. My first workout back was Pam’s step class on Wednesday. Rightfully so, because she is my favorite instructor. Several years ago, when I got addicted to working out, I went to her fitness classes religiously. Religious is appropriate here because she had a step class on Sundays that I attended every week, rain or shine whether or not I was feeling well.

I decided since I am completely out of shape, I better take it easy. I did a step with no risers. So I was pretty much just doing floor exercise because a step with no risers is not that much higher off the floor. Step was pretty energizing. It was great.

I stayed for core express too. Core express is 30 minutes of sit ups and other exercises for your core muscles. We used a ball (or a bosu, depending on your preference) and a mat. Golly! That kicked my butt. While step made me feel good, core class made me realize how very out of shape I really am. (more…)

New Hampshire Visit.

Posted on February 13, 2008 by under Family, Life, Travel.

Well, I have one more day of my New Hampshire visit and I am so excited. I can not wait to get home to my loving wife. She means the world to me and I feel so lost without her around. I fly out Friday afternoon and will be back in town around 9 in the evening. I have learned a lot about the company, the software that I will be using and myself. I had a mini melt down yesterday and my wife and parents talked me through everything. I am so blessed to have such a loving family, they are the best and are very proud of me, my new job and the direction I am going.

Even though this is a new job, this is not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. This is just a job. I needed something to do to get me by because my contract was ending at LSI (better to have a job then not have one i guess). I am thankful that Viega took me in and is willing to show me the ropes but it has not been easy. Traveling is something that I thought I would be able to get over and be able to cope with but I learned real fast that this was not the case. I hate traveling, I hate being away from home, I hate being away from my wife and my family. I am lucky in the fact that I have a boss that is totally understand and after a very heartfelt discussion we hammered out some details and I think we have come to an understanding and hopefully my traveling will be very, very, verrrrrry limited.

Tomorrow I might get to meet one of the owners of the company. This will be my first billionaire ever! I was told that he normally just blows through, meets a few folks then blows out. So hopefully he wont be here long so that my boss and I can get back to some training. I am looking forward to learning more so that next week when I am in the office I am able to effectivly do my job with little to no difficulty at all.

I hope that my wife gets a great position in her company. She gets her masters degree in May and I am so excited for that day. She deserves it and I can not be more proud. If she can manage to swing a new position at her work then hopefully, with any luck, I can get into her old position which is what I really want to do. My passion for the longest time has been Supervising a cal center. Her work is very good and treats there employees very well. Viega is very much like that, they treat there employees very well, but in the end I want something that I know is going to be around for a long time and I know her business will be around for a long time and on the plus side, there is no travel.

Well, I think that is all for now, I will have pictures of New Hampshire when i get home, this laptop has been locked down so much that I can not even upload pictures because the USB slot only recognizes specific devices. German security for you.

I cant wait to get home!

Mom’s Beverly Hills Smile

Posted on January 28, 2008 by under Family, Life, Sponsored Post.

Here’s a conversation Brian and I had in the car on Friday night..

BRIAN: It would be cool to work for Viega, but I would be traveling a lot.

CHING: And that’s bad?

BRIAN: We haven’t been apart for more than a week. I couldn’t do it.

[ It was actually two weeks back in 1999 but whatever. ]

CHING: You’re such a wuss. My dad did it for three years.

BRIAN: Yea, but I love you too much.

CHING: You don’t think my dad loves my mom? He paid $30K for her beautiful teeth even though she didn’t need them. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

BRIAN: But that was for sexual reasons!

[ Inside joke. We both busted up laughing. ]

CHING: I’m so going to tumble this!

BRIAN: Don’t! Your mom will kill me.

CHING: She brought it on herself.

[ More laughter in the car… ]

Not to pick on mom but her Beverly Hills smile, a work in progress over the last two years, is now complete. She is so proud of it that she tends to over-share. Who can blame her, though? Her teeth are absolutely perfect and truly something to behold.

Anyway, mom had her smile makeover done locally by Dr. Coad. For those can afford it, you can get a true Beverly Hills smile from Beverly Hills dentist Dr. Maddahi. Dr. Maddahi performs smile makeovers using advanced dental techniques including painless air drills, miniature cameras, and digital x-rays. Now, you too can have a perfect smile like my mom’s!
