Brian and I decided to go to Yappy Days today to do some field research. We wanted to know what kind of dogs people owned and what they are like.
It felt kind of weird going since we don’t own a dog of our own. I almost wanted to borrow someone else’s dog. I was telling Brian it felt a lot like the time we went to Chuck E. Cheese to attend Logan’s birthday. All the other grownups that were present had kids of their own. You kind of feel a little of out of place.
Anyway, eveyrone was really nice. We got asked if we had a dog more times than I could count. We kept having to explain how we were thinking of purchasing one. It’s a real same that there weren’t any puppies for sale at the event or we would’ve come home with one right then.
The experience was pretty interesting. Some people were helpful and informative. However, I think we are still leaning towards the same breeds that we were originally considering namely the long-hair chihuahua, pekingese, pekepoo, maltapoo or pomeranian. We want a little dog that is furry and huggable. The flatter the face, the better.
If you know of any breeders of these please drop us a line. We are ready (and eager) to add to the family.
We may be adding a dog to our little menagerie. I know I said we’d probably get a dog after all the cats have passed but the cats are still young. They’ve got another 10-15 years ahead of them and Brian and I really can’t wait to get a puppy. Every time we see one, we just get all googly.
Yesterday we went to Gupton’s after a rather expensive lunch at Thai Tradition. I love that place but it sucks that they offer lunch prices on weekdays. Lunch cost about $60, more than what we spend for fancy champagne brunches at Legend’s. Actually, it’s more than what we typically spend eating out. Usually we’ll spend that much eating dinner at Outback or Sumo, not lunch. It has been a while since Brian has taken me to eat there, we just took it in stride. Besides, he got head while playing World of Warcraft the night before and really good head and sex that morning so he owed it to me. LOL!
But I digress.. Where were we? Oh, we were at Gupton’s buying mealies for our sugargliders. While we were looking around the store, we saw this super cute long haired chihuahua there for $950. Brian was so in love with it. It was so cute I almost fell in love with it, too. We were so enamored that we actually seriously discussed it. The price was the main downfall. I mean, it’s like what do you want more? A laptop or a chihuahua? Brian wanted to get a laptop for himself later this year. That is the reason for the comparison. So if we get the puppy, we won’t be able to afford a new laptop for him (not like we can afford it now; we still have to save for it). Then again, you can’t really hug a laptop and you can’t get slobbery kisses from it.
Anyway, we were so geared up for a new dog that I actually managed to drag Brian to the Kansas Humane Society. We didn’t think we would find the puppy we wanted there but it was worth a shot. I felt so sad looking at all the abandoned and lost animals looking for homes. I almost wanted to take them all home with us. We are so sad, that we almost went home with another cat. Good thing Brian put his foot down and was firm with me. Otherwise we’d have a white cat to go with our gray (Oscar), black (Felix) and multicolored tabby (Jesus).
Today he’s got me looking for puppies on the classifieds. He’s actually more interested in a long haired chihuahua but I think I can talk him into a Maltese Poodle mix which is what I would actually prefer. The one you see pictured above is 1/4 Poodle + 3/4 Maltese — the perfect mix. I say perfect because Brian is not a big fan of the disposition of Poodles.
So anyway, we have nixed the laptop idea and are now full on looking for a new addition to our family. By the end of the year (if not sooner) we should have our new baby.
Last night we stopped by PETCO on the way to poker and ended up spending $50 in cat and sugarglider toys. I haven’t even spent that much on myself in a couple of years! Not in toys, anyway. Our babies are so spoiled. Our best buy that night is this crinkly cat tunnel. It’s similar to the one shown in the photo on the left but it’s in leopard print and has a peak-a-boo hole in the middle. It was on sale for $19.99 but we got it for $15.99 with our store discount card. The cats love it because it sounds like a plastic grocery bag when they play inside it. We’ll take some pictures soon so you guys can check them out.

Brian and I just finished cleaning the glider cage. It took almost an hour and a half but it’s well worth it. The cage is now clean and smells fresh. It was getting really bad there for a while because we were supposed to clean it two weeks ago. Our weekends have been really tight, though.
I hope the suggies like the new setup. It’s not quite complete yet because some of the permanent cage accessories have yet to be washed. Hopefully I’ll fisnish the rest of the laundry today so we can put those items back in the cage tomorrow.
Anyway, cleaning the cage is kind of a pain but it is highly necessary. I mean, it’s one thing for Brian and I to live in filth but our babies have to have a nice, clean place to live and play. Only the best for our suggies!
