My New Camera

Posted on May 15, 2003 by under Toys, Wishlist.

I haven’t been blogging because my Canon Powershot G3 arrived on Tuesday and I’ve been busy playing with it ever since.  The other night Brian and I set it on a table and played with the wireless controller.  It’s so cool because the wireless controller not only gives the ability to remote detonate ..err, snap pictures.. It actually gives you the ability to zoom in and out, and also navigates the various pictures stored in the camera like if you had the camera connected to a TV (it came w/ A/V cables) so you can show pictuers one at a time before moving on.  The camera itself has a slideshow option but we’re just talking about the wireless controller right now.

You wanna know something stupid?  Dell carries the G3 now.  They’re a little late because I’d already bought it!  I was just telling Pia last night (she’s thinking of buying a new desktop from Dell) of how much I love that company (their tech support is crap but that’s besides the point, they have good deals).  Almost everything that we’ve got is through them.  Brian’s desktop, my desktop, the cd burner I bought for Brian’s computer, my QuickCam Pro 4000 (which incidentally I had bought when it was still $99.99 and now it’s on sale everywhere you go — probably because the new QuickCam Cordless is now available — I want that one next) etc etc.  Anyway I told her that I would have bought the G3 from Dell had they offered it but I didn’t see it on any of their catalogs or website.  Now, after the fact, it’s there.

So last night I was tinkering with my computer as I was chatting with Pia on Y!M.  I decided that I didn’t need some of the software bundled with my webcam so I uninstalled them from my computer (being careful not to uninstall the driver along with it).  What followed next was a rigorous test of almost everything that I use with my webcam on a semi-regular basis.  Webcam32 and the webcam option on Y!M still worked.  I wanted to make sure that my Logitech IM Video Companion (which works with AIM and MSN Messenger) thing still worked.  I signed onto AIM to see if there was anyone available who could test it with me and, lo and behold, a Ritchie sighting!  We never run into each other online!

Pia doesn’t have AIM but she had MSN so we switched to MSN so the three of us could chat together.  I needed to test it with MSN anyhow.  I couldn’t get it to work for the life of me!  I don’t know what the deal is.  Crazy chat program!  The good news is, after I got off chat with Ritchie and Pia, I had Brian log onto AIM on his computer and test it with me.  He says that when I send him the view my webcam link it takes him to a page to install the program needed and then after it’s installed it works.  He could see me.  So the Logitech IM Video Companion works.  The problem lies with MSN Messenger which I can understand because it’s one of the newer instant messenging programs so the could still be some bugs that need to be worked out.

Wishing I Was Off on Fridays

Posted on May 2, 2003 by under Life, Wishlist.

I wish that I was off on Fridays too so I could hang out with Brian. It’s not too bad, though, because Brian takes me to work and picks me up. There’s nothing like curb-side service! Anyway, we went to the mall after work because I need some 8-lb dumbells to complete my set. I now have 3, 5, 8 and 10-lb dumbells for my Firm workouts.

While we were there we had our rings cleaned at Zales and roamed around for a little bit. Gadzooks had this humongous clearance on their men’s items. They’re going all girl as of July 7th. Brian took advantage and got yet another derogatory t-shirt. It has a winged emblem on it which says “U.R.A. idiot” and then underneath it this statement that goes, “if idiots were airplanes this would be a freaking airport” and at $10.90 it was a steal!

Jasmine belts We browsed several stores until we found ourselves at Abercrombie & Fitch. Brian said that he’d been thinking about buying me the belt that I’ve been eyeing (more like drooling over) ever since I got the summer A&F Quarterly catalog in the mail a month ago.

I remember laying in bed one night, browsing the enticing pages of the catalog, showing it to him, and telling him how much I wanted it. He said that maybe the “belt-fairy” would get it for me. I was hopeful but I didn’t think that he was serious. I mean, $39.50 for just a belt is a bit much. Specially now that I’m on a poverty strike (or what seems like it, anyway). I told him not to get it at first because it was more of a “want” than a “need” and we have no room for “wants” right now. I told him it was impractical. He insisted on buying it for me anyway. After walking around the store and mulling over it for almost half an hour, I finally gave in.

Not that Brian isn’t a generous person in general but I think there were other motivational factors involved.

[a] He still can’t believe that I got him the Dell Axim X5 that he has been whining about for several months now as an advanced birthday present. I think he is still so giddy over it that he feels compelled to do something special for me in return.

[b] He feels like he has to compesate for the strand of long, blonde hair that I found on his shirt while we were driving to work this morning. Even though it was innocent (as in, we have no explanation for how it got there) guys just have this subconscious need to do something nice for you after an encounter like that. It doesn’t matter if they are really cheating on your or not. Guilty or not guilty, they feel the need to pacify you (perhaps as a preventive measure). I’m sure if he were guilty he’d probably buy me something bigger like Canon Powershot G3 or something.. but he’s not, so all I get is a belt. LOL!

[c] He’s just a sweet, wonderful guy. The best husband that a girl could ever hope to have. And you ask me, I think it would be [c] all the way! I was just joking about the other two (although I really did get him the PDA for his birthday and I really did find a strand of blonde hair stuck to his shirt).

Anyway, after spending almost two hours at the mall we went to Hanna Cafe for dinner. I just had California maki (it’s all that my diet will allow for that late in the evening) while Brian had some teriyaki chicken. How adventurous, huh? He did try some of my sushi and I think it’s growing on him. So that’s a step in the right direction.

After dinner we went to Wal-Mart to pick up some cat litter. As we were roaming around we ran into Kenisha and her son Bryson. I let Bryson play with the camera and he ended up taking a whole bunch of pictures. Most of the pictures from Wal-Mart above were taken by him. They may be out of frame but you can already tell that he’s got a lot of potential. LOL! Anyway, Brian and I just went home right after and now here I am blogging and sharing a photo log of my day.

BBQ Photos

Just got done watching American Idol and here are my thoughts:

– Trenyce didn’t deserve to go home. She chose some really good songs to sing and she sounded great!

– Kimberly Locke was awesome! I loved her rendition of “Where the Boys Are” and I also loved that she sang one of my all-time favorite songs during their 60’s music medley, “To Sir With Love.”

– I can’t believe Clay sang “Buttercup” — I love that song! It always makes me think of one of my favorite movies, “There’s Something About Mary.”

– They should have sent Josh home. He performed the worst. This just goes to show that America is on crack and totally clueless. Pia say it was racism. I think the voters just have no taste. LOL! Kidding aside, I think they just felt bad for Josh because Simon was really rough on him but Simon was just giving his opinion. It was crappy. It reminds me of how they kept Carmen for several weeks and got rid of the other people first when she was really one of the worst ones.

– During the brief time that I saw Julia during their group performance with Burt Bacharach, I was totally taken by her. She looks even more amazing now that she’s not on the show. I guess with all that free time she has more time to go tanning. She was hot!

– I want a Nokia 3650 camera phone!

Anyway.. Here are some pictures from our barbeque last Sunday..

Post-Fight Shopping

Posted on April 2, 2003 by under Life, Wishlist.

Brian and I had a little tiff last night so in my irrational state I found myself surfing Amazon and Buy.com for a new digital camera.  I’d been wanting to upgrade to a new one for a few months now (my Sony Cybershot is over two years old) and I had the perfect excuse last night.  Anyway, Brian came home just in the nick of time.  He came home a half an hour early (he probably figured what I was up to; when I’m depressed or upset I get this way) and brought reason home with him so I didn’t end up buying it.  I did do some serious shopping around though and I finally what found my next camera will be!

I used to want a Nikon Coolpix 4500, but I’m so over it now.  I’ve discovered Canon Powershot G3, thanks to a great review I read at Digital Photography Review.  So anyway, that’s the newest addition my ever growing wishlist.  Here’s a picture of it:

Some people have dream cars.  I have dream cameras.

I’m going to buy it, too!  One day when I get sad and Brian’s not around to protect me from my own devices, it’ll happen.  Just kidding.  I’ve actually decided to buy it for myself on May 31 if I reach my goal weight of 100 lbs.  If I fail, there’s always my birthday.  LOL!

Post Christmas Spending

Posted on December 29, 2002 by under Life, Toys, Wishlist.

Yesterday was an expensive day for us. I got Brian a DVD player for the bedroom as part of his Christmas (he really thought he was getting a wireless keyboard and mouse but I thought that a DVD player for the bedroom would be more useful) so we don’t have to keep moving the PS2 around. Sometimes he’ll want to watch a movie that either (a) I’ve already seen or (b) I don’t really care to watch so I don’t want to watch it with him in the family room (where the DVD player and big screen TV are). We don’t ever spend time apart so as a compromise he’ll bring the PS2 to the bedroom and watch it in there while I lay asleep in his arms. He’d been wanting a DVD player for the bedroom for as long as I can remember so I finally relented. Little did I know that this gift would beget another expense: a new TV. The 27″ that we have (correction: had; it’s been replaced as of yesterday) in the bedroom was inherited from one of his relatives and I think it was made before DVDs were invented because it didn’t have the necessary input/output jacks in the back. We could have kept it and just hooked the DVD player to the VCR which is hooked to the TV, but as anyone who has ever tried this ghetto-ass way of hooking a DVD player up knows the picture does a very annoying light-dark-light-dark thing throughout the show because of most DVDs’ copyright protection feature. We contemplated getting a converter thingamajiggie, but I figured that it would cost 1/3 of the price of a new TV (you can get cheap 27″ TVs for like $200 nowadays) and the one the we had was really old anyway so we might as well splurge. Besides, I felt really guilty for not anticipating the need for a new TV. Hey, it’s Christmas after all! I told Brian that if he gave me the $50 that mom and dad gave him as part of his Christmas I’d fork out the difference. We found a Toshiba 27″ full-featured one for just $249 at Best Buy (to match the Toshiba DVD player that I got for him — hey, it has to match! LOL! — you’re talking about me, the girl who had to buy a new webcam to match her black and gray computer — and man, was that difficult! most webcams come in an icky cream color). It works really great and the picture quality is wonderful. The only thing that was disappointing to me was that the website said it came in black, but the ones at the store were in charcoal gray. Oh, well. At least it’s the same brand as the DVD player. So anyway, we did some creative re-arranging with (Brian’s brother) Kevin’s help. The TV that was in the bedroom moved to the office and the TV that was in the office has moved to the living room (which didn’t have a TV before — I figured it will be useful in there so we can watch the Bowflex instructional videos directly in front of the machine when it comes and we won’t have to run back and forth from one of the other rooms — Brian wants to drill a hole through the wall and run cable to it because he wants to watch TV while he’s working out — hey, whatever makes him happy). The only room that we didn’t have to mess with was the family room and thank God for that! That would have been a nightmare! We took Jen (my sister) and Kevin out to lunch at Applebees afterwards (Brian paid for everything except the alcohol, which went on Jen’s tab — she and Kevin had some drinks) to thank them for their help. Then Jen, Brian and I went to the mall to pass the time. Jen got a $50 gift certificate to Victoria Secret from Matt (her ex, and Logan’s father) that she wanted to redeem and Brian and I both had $30 mall certificates from his grandparents. Brian got some clothes from Old Navy and I got a corduroy jacket from Hollister with a fur collar and quilted nylon lining. It’s really cute — I can’t wait to wear it! I forgot to give the checkout girl at Hollister my certificate before she rang my jacket up. She felt bad and said she could re-do it, but I’m paranoid about that stuff so I just told her not to bother. The jacket was on sale anyway — I really thought it was still at the regular price — so I was kind of happy about that. We walked around the mall for a long time to find a place to spend my $30 certificate, but — for the life of me — I couldn’t find anything that I wanted. I decided that I might as well put it toward something that will last forever.. We ended up at Zales. I really wanted these 1/2 carat diamond solitaires set in platinum to go with my ring, but with my $30 they’d still be a good $470. Brian said that they were too simple and really weren’t my style so I ended up getting these hoop style earings with baguettes instead. They’re set in white gold (not really my preference), but they were on sale and one can’t argue with that! Anyway, Brian gets a new TV and I get a new pair of earrings and we’re both happy!
