Ching is a Dorkus Maximus

Posted on March 25, 2009 by under Projects.

So I issued my first press release on Monday. There’s nothing like tooting your own horn! LOL.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Modern-Day Relic Announces Launch of Online Jewelry Store

Wichita, Kansas, March 23, 2009 — Modern-Day Relic is proud to announce the grand opening of its online jewelry store Moderndayrelic.com, which officially launched March 23, 2009. Proprietor and artisan, Cherrie Brubaker (@chingay on Twitter if you would like to follow her), says she is eager to share her fabulous jewelry with the world.

Besides Brubaker’s creations, Modern-Day Relic also offers jewelry created by other designers. Modern-Day Relic is currently showcasing fashion jewelry from Cebu, Philippines. Fashion jewelry pieces from Cebu are usually made of handcrafted wood and coconut shell beads. Coconuts are abundant in the Philippines, so coconut shells are commonly used to create unique pendants and beads. Artisans also use seashells and other materials like rattan, abaca, raffia, seeds and stones to achieve interesting texture and color variation in their jewelry designs.

“We collaborate with other jewelry designers, importers, and wholesalers in order to provide a unique selection of jewelry to our discerning clientele,” says Brubaker who describes her own creations as jewelry that’s fun to wear. “The best jewelry pieces reflect the personality of the person wearing them,” adds Brubaker.

As a grand opening promotion, Modern-Day Relic is offering free shipping on all orders placed by March 31, 2009. Visit Moderndayrelic.com to browse their exotic collection of fashion jewelry imported from Cebu and Brubaker’s own fun, funky jewelry creations.

For more information, contact cherrie@moderndayrelic.com or visit the online store at Moderndayrelic.com.

It’s Official, Ching is a Jewelry Maker

The other day (Saturday) Becca asked me to shorten a couple of necklaces for her. I told her that I would do one better: I would shorten the necklaces and use the excess beads to make earrings! Anyway, I told her that I would need some time to complete her custom jewelry project because I have an online jewelry store now and I have to build my store inventory. She was like, no problem just so long as the jewelry would be ready in time for their trip to Sandals St. Lucia in three weeks.

Guess what. Both necklaces are finished. I did the one shown above last night and I finished the other tonight. Despite having drank a whole liter of sangria with dinner, I was able to work on the jewelry. LOL. Maybe I could have done a better job if I wasn’t a little tipsy. I did take some shortcuts.

For instance, I just fastened each end instead of restringing the necklaces. I hate stringing beads. That is so tedious. I think that’s why I only make earrings. Earrings are so much more fun to make than necklaces! LOL.

Anyway, it’s official. I’m a bonafide jewelry maker now!

Dangly Earrings for Bree

Posted on March 19, 2009 by under Projects.

Earrings for Bree

I made Bree some dangly earrings for her birthday. They consist of mother of pearl and tiger’s eye beads hooked together using head and eye pins. I think I’m getting better at this jewelry-making stuff. =)

P.S. You can order some Mother of Pearl and Tiger’s Eye dangly earrings for $8.00 or other custom earrings for $15.00. Simply checkout using the shopping cart located on the upper right hand corner and then email your request to me.

P.P.S. Mostly I’m just trying out Chad’s Drop Cart program. It is neato!

April’s Premiere Designs Charm Bracelet

Posted on March 7, 2009 by under Projects.

April actually gave me an idea and inspiration for my second necklace project. When I was hanging out at their house last night, I had mentioned how much I liked charm necklaces and bracelets. I like the the novelty of them and how dangly they are.

Anyway, she brings out this charm bracelet with photo frame charms. She said she couldn’t wear it because it kept getting in the way so she was giving it to me. I felt bad because it had all of these photos of her family so I came up with the idea of turning the charm bracelet into a necklace for her. She said she wouldn’t mind wearing it as a necklace. I really hope she likes it.

My First Necklace

Posted on March 1, 2009 by under Projects.

Necklace I made for Jan =)

Jan and I hung out at the mall yesterday after I dropped Brian off at the airport. After looking at some overpriced jewelry, I decided that I would make good on my plans of making my own. So off to Hobby Lobby we went.

After picking up $30 in jewelry making stuff (just miscellaneous odds and ends because I already had some pliers at home, which I use to work with my Art by Amy pieces), I was ready for my first try. My first project was a pair of earrings for me. Those worked out really easily because it was mainly just affixing the glass pendant to fish hook earring wire via jump ring. Quick and easy. I would have taken a picture, my camera phone kept taking it blurry so I just gave up. I think I will wear it today to show Jan.

My second project this morning was Jan’s glass heart necklace (shown above). This posed more of a challenge because I had to hide the ends of the leather cord. Although, it was still pretty simple to do as jewelry projects go. I’m giving the necklace to her at brunch today. I hope she likes it. 🙂

Anyway, I think I’m going to hit Wal-Mart on the way home for some charms and beading stuff. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to make some more stuff.
