My Last Class at Genesis
Posted on November 22, 2019 by Ching under Zumba.
A few pics from my final class at Genesis Health Clubs (West Central), which happened to be on Halloween and the day after my birthday.
We enjoyed some cupcakes courtesy of Jack and Joetta.
Even though my time at Genesis was short-lived (I started teaching group fitness there after we returned from Costa Rica in the Spring and ended my stint right before we left for Mexico this Fall), I will miss these ladies tremendously. They were kindest and most thoughtful — simply the best — bunch ever!

Dance ‘Til You’re Dead
Posted on November 15, 2019 by Ching under Community, Events, Zumba.
This event is by far one of the best Zumba events I’ve been part of this year. Earlier this year, during the Spring, we had a Y Takeover event at Chicken N Pickle. The event is similar to this one but it was Zumba and Sh’bam combo. That event was a lot of fun too, I found the event last month even more fun because it was all Zumba. If you can’t already tell, I am not a huge fan of Sh’bam so as much as possible have been staying away from those events. I know my mantra is “Never miss a party if you can help it” but if I have to do Sh’bam then I usual somehow magically have other better, more fun things to do. LOL.
I think I was open-minded about Sh’bam before I actually tried it. They say always give something a few tries before coming to a conclusion. Now that I’ve tried it a few times, I can safely say I do not enjoy it as much as I enjoy Zumba.
The event a few weeks ago at Chicken N Pickle was just all Zumba so it was perfect. It was a collaboration between North and South YMCA instructors. There were eight of us altogether.
From left: Joel, Todd, Jessie, Aisha, Bryden, Missy, Rose and me.
Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the event.
I love these events at Chicken N Pickle. The setup over there is just awesome and perfect for outdoor events like this one. I can’t wait until winter is over and we can start having these events again.

Oh, Happy Day

A friend of mine took a bunch of photos of me while teaching my Monday night Zumba class at VASA Fitness a few weeks ago. I thought my faces were funny so I made a collage out of the pics. LOL.
Anyway, VASA opened a second location in Wichita last week. The new location is at 21st and Woodlawn where the Extreme Racing go kart place (and Hobby Lobby before that) used to be. I picked up a few classes which start this week.
My new VASA (Woodlawn) classes are as follows:
- Zumba on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM
- Aqua Zumba on Thursdays at 6:00 PM
- Aqua Zumba on Saturdays at 9:00 AM
This is on top of my existing classes:
- Zumba on Mondays at 6:30 PM at VASA (Georgetown)
- Zumba on Saturdays at 10:30 AM at Andover YMCA
- Aqua Zumba on Sundays at 10:30 AM at South YMCA
- Aqua Zumba on Sundays at 12:00 PM at North YMCA
- Zumba on Sundays at 2:00 PM at Andover YMCA
Notice anything missing? Yup. I had to get rid of my classes at Genesis Health Clubs to make room. I cannot be more thrilled though, because now I’ll get to stay pretty much on the same side of town. I will miss my awesome mermaids at Genesis West Central for sure but this new schedule works so much better for me. It will work even better in December when Brynden takes over the 10:30 AM Sunday Aqua Zumba class at South YMCA.
I’m not expecting a big crowd tonight for the Tuesday night Zumba class because it’s a brand new facility and people may not know about it yet but, if you want to join the fun, you can get a free trial pass here: https://vasafitness.com/trial. And, of course, existing VASA members are always welcome. See you tonight!

We Made It To Labor Day
Posted on September 2, 2019 by Ching under Health, Zumba.
I taught my final outdoor water class today at South YMCA. This year as been the best year for me for water classes. First, I picked up some extra classes, so instead of teaching only one Aqua Zumba class like last year (and only during the summer), I’ve actually been teaching an average of four Aqua Zumba classes each week. In the peak of summer, I was actually teaching five water classes.
I always like learning new things so I was super excited to have the opportunity to teach Water Walk this year. I really didn’t want to teach it at first but there was no one else available so I took a couple of classes and shadowed another instructor a couple of times and then I jumped right in. I still prefer teaching Aqua Zumba but I’m happy that I can now add Water Walk to my repertoire.
Another cool thing is that I’ve had some friends visit my water classes, which I appreciate so much. My friend Stephanie came out to South YMCA a couple of times. I love it when Stephanie comes to take class because she really knows what she’s doing and it’s fun to watch her do the exercises in the water. I also like getting her feedback. She knows her stuff so it helps me get better.
Brynden got to shadow me a few times before summer was over. She completed her Aqua Zumba training at ZINCON this year so she’s now licensed to teach the format. She’s been doing a few songs in class and I look forward to her teaching her own Aqua Zumba classes. She’s going to be great!
Now that outdoor water classes have wrapped, here’s my Aqua Zumba schedule going forward:
- Sunday 10:30 – 11:15 AM at South YMCA
- Sunday 12:00 – 1:00 PM at North YMCA (we are taking a break during the month of September, though)
- Thursday 5:45 – 6:45 PM at Genesis West Central
- Saturday 8:45 – 9:45 AM at VASA Fitness
If you’ve never tried Aqua Zumba before, I highly recommend you do. It is an amazing workout and one that’s not as impacting on knees and joints. I hope to see you at the pool sometime!

Final Day in Orlando
Posted on August 17, 2019 by Ching under Travel, Zumba.
Brian and I got some much needed pool time after the ZINCON closing session.
It was a hot one!
Afterwards, we went to our favorite restaurant, the Pub Orlando, for dinner. We had our first and last meals in Orlando there. We love it that much!
Bumped into DJ Dani on our way back from dinner.
With Renee and Kizzy from Soca Xplosion.
They packed up super quick. By Sunday afternoon, there was no trace of ZINCON in sight. The stage, the window clings, the signage — all gone.
Pictures of the beautiful Hilton Orlando lobby. Hotel was great. Resort pool was great. Still not a fan of the long walk to the Hyatt. LOL.
