Becca’s Special Flip Flops

Posted on June 27, 2010 by under Poker.

Becca wore her special poker flip flops yesterday. They were no match for the Phelps’ mojo, though. They split first and second place last night. I’m just glad I won my $10 back. Stupid pocket kings! =P

Bob at Uncle Roy’s

Posted on December 18, 2009 by under Poker.

Bob at Uncle Roy's

The one and only time that we miss poker (aside from the two weeks in October when we were in the Philippines), everyone shows up. Just my luck! I felt specially bad because Brian’s dad’s boss (Bob) was in town. I’m so glad that Sunny and Kurt were around.

If I wasn’t at home, I wouldn’t even have found out Bob was even in town until later (I don’t check FB at work; I just happened to be laying in bed with nothing better to do). I gave Brian a hard time about that. I was like, “You didn’t tell me your dad’s boss was in town! He was at poker last night. You really should have gone.”

Brian goes, “Yes, but you’re sick and I didn’t want to leave you.” My husband is so sweet. “You wouldn’t have gone without me.”

“Yes, I would have! It’s only a couple of hours. I would have been fine.” I’m fine by myself while he’s at work. I just take some NyQuil and doze off. LOL.

“I didn’t want to go without you.” He is so sweet, right?

I think if he knew that Bob was going to be there (they’d never met, because Brian was in Germany the last time that Bob was in town), then he would have pried himself away from me for a while. This is Bob’s last trip to Wichita for the year, I’m sure. And, it’s not very often that he has to come to Wichita because, you know, Brian’s dad is so good.

Actually, it worked out for Dill that we weren’t there. He actually cashed (1-2 chop) last night. 😉 Just kidding! Congrats, Jay!

2010 WSOP Schedule is Posted

Posted on December 17, 2009 by under Poker, Things to Do.

The schedule is posted! I’m so excited! Check out the full details here.

Brian said if I save enough money between now and then, I can play in Event #22 (Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship). That settles it. I’m brown bagging my work lunches and eating ramen and SPAM for the next six months! LOL.

P.S. If someone wants to back me for a portion of my winnings, that would be great too. Just contact me and we can start drafting an agreement/contract.

A Trip to the Nifty Nuthouse

Posted on September 19, 2009 by under Food and Drink, Poker, Wishlist.

Brian’s coworkers Lance and Alicia joined us for lunch at My Tho the other day. Guess what is just around the corner from My Tho? Yup. You guessed it! The Nifty Nuthouse!

Since we got done with lunch pretty quickly and had fifteen minutes to spare, the four of us decided to stop by the Nifty Nuthouse on the way back to work. Alicia had never been there before.

SIDE NOTE: Kudos to My Tho for their promptness. Lunch was super quick. It seemed like within a couple of minutes of ordering, our server was back with our meals. Brian was surprised at how quickly our food was ready. I wasn’t surprised, though. I swear. I think they have vats of soups already pre-made and ready to go in the kitchen. =P

I’m actually glad that lunch was quick because we wouldn’t have had time to stop in at the Nifty Nuthouse otherwise. It is one of my favorite places to get chocolates. My other favorite place is Cocoa Dolce, but we only go when we feel like splurging (which we haven’t done lately). Cocoa Dolce artisan chocolates are pretty expensive. Your money goes a longer ways at the Nifty Nuthouse. Not to say I don’t love Cocoa Dolce because I do. They have fantastic truffles! But the Nifty Nuthouse is a good place to satisfy those chocolatey cravings on the cheap.

Brian loves their double-dipped chocolate-covered peanuts. I like their chocolate covered-pretzels. I got some to bring to poker and share with everyone. Brian got a pound of his double-dipped chocolate-covered peanuts, but he doesn’t like to share so he kept his at home.

Incidentally, I cashed in the home game at Uncle Roy’s on Thursday night. I think it was because I shared my yummy chocolate-covered pretzels with everyone and wasn’t being greedy. Further proof of my theory that the more you give, the more you get. It’s all about cultivating good karma. LOL. So much for poker skills, huh? =P

They were all still playing poker when we left (a cash game had started after enough people were knocked out of the tournament) so I just left the chocolate-covered pretzels with them. Rod seemed to really like it.

Anyway, it’s a shame that I didn’t have enough good karma to carry me through to today’s poker tourney at Harrah’s. Brian and I totally sucked. Well, we didn’t really suck but the cards sure did. The cards were just rotten. I have some theories about doing well at Harrah’s, too. More on that later.

For now, head over to the Nifty Nuthouse and satisfy those chocolate cravings!

Spider, Yikes!

Posted on September 13, 2009 by under Family, Life, Poker, Travel.

We hadn’t driven the truck in so long (probably a month or so) that a spider decided to spin a web from the basketball pole to the truck. That is sad. LOL.

Besides being sad, it scared the bejeezus out of me. It was a huge spider! Speaking of the truck, after driving it for the first time in several weeks Brian and I realized that it is overdue for an oil change. If we went by the date, it would be long overdue. However, the mileage isn’t that much over the schedule. That’s because the truck hardly ever gets driven. Brian says it needs new tires before winter also. When it rains it pours.

In other crappy news, the KOHL’s gift card that we bought for Brian’s mom at Cosentino’s Market last weekend turned out to bunk. We were thinking that we were being smart by just buying it there while we were at Cosentino’s. How convenient, right? We won’t have to make a separate trip to the store or anything. So much for convenience.

KOHL’s couldn’t fix the problem so we asked Brian’s mom to give the gift card back to us so we could deal with the hassle of getting it fixed. I called Cosentino’s today and, just as I feared, they aren’t able to verify my purchase using one of the confirmation numbers on my receipt. I have to physically return to the store to get it fixed. Yuck.

Brian was really upset when he first found out about this. I, however, am an optimist. Why make lemonade out of this yucky situation? I managed to talk Brian into calming down and not being so upset and frustrated and bribing him with poker at Harrah’s NKC. We weren’t planning on returning to Harrah’s until possibly next year or at least after we return from our trip to the Philippines. But whatever. You gotta do, what you gotta do.

The plan is to leave Wichita at 5 AM next Saturday, play the Saturday morning poker tournament at Harrah’s, hit Cosentino’s on the way home to get the gift card fiasco resolved, and then come home and deliver the corrected gift card to Brian’s mom. It will be a really long tiresome day. And, we will miss the Fabulous Fleshtones this weekend at Duke’s as a result of this spontaneous trip to Kansas City. We have to take care of this, though.

The downside to this whole thing is that gas probably costs about as much as the gift card that we are trying to get fixed. Not to mention the driving time to and from Kansas City. It is a major hassle. Brian and I are none too happy about the circumstances, but there’s no point being pissed. It’s our fault for buying a gift card out of town. Never again.

My hope is that Brian and I can both cash in the tourney so the elation over wining some money can somehow overshadow the reason that we have to return to Kansas City in the first place. Maybe we’ll cash and recover our tournament buy-in, gas expense, and then some. What can I say? I’m an optimist.
