Day 3: October 28, Tuesday
Posted on October 29, 2008 by Ching under Flickr, Poker, Travel.
Tuesday is when we had the $500 freeroll and we had several more main event satellites. So more poker, yeah!
More poker meant more winners. Woot! Woot!

We had the WPTAPL private party at Henri’s disco on Tuesday also. Here are some highlights from the party.

Day 2: October 27, Monday
Posted on October 28, 2008 by Ching under Poker, Travel.
These are some photo highlights from October 27, Monday. Man, it was a long day!
That was the day we had the big tournament that ran through dinner. It was the first formal night and lobster was on the menu. The bosses agreed that we would allow a two-hour break for dinner, but someone had to stay in the room and watch the chips. Brian volunteered to stay. I would have stayed with him, but he told me that I could go and enjoy lobster with everyone.
I was worried that they would kick me out of the dining hall because I wasn’t in formal attire that night, but no one said anything. I got some looks, but the rest of the folks at our table weren’t in so-called “cruise elegant” either so it’s not like I was the only one. I feel like I blogged this already so I won’t go through and repeat everything.
We had a lot of winners that day. I hope you all enjoy the photo highlights.

Post-Breakfast Blog Post
Posted on October 28, 2008 by Ching under Poker, Travel.
This is the obligatory post-breakfast blog post. LOL.
Yesterday was pretty interesting. Brian and I found out we had a handicapped-accessible room. Like the foldable bench seat in the shower wasn’t proof enough, we actually had to verify this for ourselves. There’s a string in the shower that hangs from the ceiling all the way down to the floor. I asked Brian what it was and, like a goober, he started tugging on it. Almost immediately our phone rings. I was like, you know if something happened to me and I’ve fallen in the shower I’m probably not going to pick up the phone. I guess they do that to make sure you are okay and this way they only have to send someone down if you don’t pick up. In a way that’s good because then you know they won’t barge into your room in the middle of a rough poop. Then again, if you’re sitting in the pot when you accidentally tug on the string and are unable to get to the phone then they just might walk in on you. =P
We had another long day yesterday. We had several SNG satellites to the main event and then we also held the 4 PM poker tournament. Initially we thought we would play through dinner and just catch the late dinner, but the crew kept telling everyone that they couldn’t switch dinner schedules. It was lobster night and players were having to choose between poker or dinner. Kurt made the decision to break right before 6 PM so that the players would have time to go to dinner and enjoy their lobster. I’m glad he decided to do that because then I didn’t get to miss out on the lobster.
Brian, who is not a big lobster fan and has done formal night before, volunteered to stay and watch the conference room. I felt bad but he told me I could go and have sit down dinner. I was worried that they would kick me out for not being in “cruise elegant” attire, but no one said anything. I think that might be because our entire table, except for Kathy and Jen, was in casual attire. We did stick out among the other guests, though. We are such rebels. LOL.
Speaking of the wait staff… Ours are fantastic. I told Brian that we are going to need to leave them an equally fantastic tip. The bar server assigned to our table remembered Brian’s preference for soda and had a glass of ice and can of Coke ready for him. When he delivered it to our table, he told me that it is for my husband. I regretfully told him that Brian wasn’t coming tonight and without missing a beat he said, “This is for you then.” What a nice guy.
Anyway, Brent finished his dinner really quickly and then went down to relieve Brian from guarding the room. That was really nice of him. Brian arrived too late to order dinner, but our server Mamat managed to give him an entree. I was telling Shawn that I didn’t know how he got Brian’s food so quickly. It seemed like we had to wait 30-45 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Jen was picking on Shane because he ordered three different entrees and that he might be the reason for the hold up on our food. “Brian must have gotten some poor schmuck’s chicken dinner,” I told Shawn. Shawn had finished his first entree and was waiting for his second entree, the chicken one, to arrive. Shawn had been waiting for a while so he goes, “I think they gave Brian my chicken entree.” Open mouth, insert foot. I felt sooo bad. I apologized to Shawn, but he said it was okay because he got to eat his first entree anyway. No sooner than he said that and Mamat arrives with a fresh knife and for him. He was like, “Maybe my dinner is still coming?” Sure enough it arrived. Both he and Kylie got their chicken entrees after all, leaving me to conclude that Brian got some other poor schmuck’s chicken entree. LOL. It was really nice of Brent to switch Brian so he could sit down with us.
After dinner we got right back to work. It wasn’t until after midnight when we were finally dismissed. Everything starts all over again today. We report to the conference room at 10 AM and the freeroll tournament begins at 11 AM. It will be mayhem. I’m so looking forward to Wednesday already.

The End of a Long Day
Posted on October 28, 2008 by Ching under Poker, Travel.
What a hectic day! We worked from 11:30 AM or so to midnight with just a short break for dinner. Anyway, Brian wants to go to bed so I’m simply going to post the results of the SNG’s on Sunday. The winner from table 1 was Jacques Mader, table 2 Lois Massey, table 3 Robert Eisenlohr, and table 4 was a tie between Ashley Silvy and Kurt McPhail.
I will post more results as I get them. Good night all!

Recap of Our First Day
Posted on October 27, 2008 by Ching under Poker, Travel, Web.
This is the worst cruise ever! There is no internet service. Ugh!

Just kidding! This isn’t the worst cruise ever. The part about having no internet is true, though. Brian and had planned on buying several minutes of internet service when we got on board. We stopped by the internet café a couple of times yesterday and they were closed for maintenance. We came by again today hoping to find things up and running, and also speak with someone about getting wireless internet, but they were still closed. This time there’s a sign that says they have experienced a malfunction and their services will not be available until further notice. Boo!
Anyway, I would have blogged yesterday but we were super tired. We had a really long day. As you know we all drove to Conroe, Texas (about an hour from the Houston port) on Saturday. The drive itself was pretty uneventful except for running into a place that sold “diet ice” (we scratched our heads at that one) and a gas station that had a high-tech Dyson hand dryer thing that had Brent totally amazed. We passed the time by playing my movie game and also Brent’s “think while you drink” famous people game. We made a couple of stops and before you knew it, we had arrived at the Baymont in Conroe.
We bunked with Dan and Brent that night. It wasn’t too bad except for the very disturbing sight of Brent and Dan spooning. I’m kidding!
Seriously, though, I think they had it worse because I snore — or so Brian says anyway. He did his fair share of snoring, mind you. Brian was prepared, though. He brought ear plugs. Brent had sleeping pills. Poor Dan had nothing. =P He was up at 6 AM, a good hour before our wake up call.
We got up that morning bright and early and were on our way ahead of schedule. We arrived at the port with no problems and, aside from some minor snags, embarkation went pretty smoothly. We did wander around the ship for a while before we found The Gallery, though. The Gallery is what the conference room where we are having the poker events is called.
Registration went slow at first, and then we got a whole mob a while after Kurt, Kathy, Shane, and Jen took off. Brent and Frank kept things in order, though. We had a good crowd going and even a few were came in as we were packing up. We had to shut down for the boat drill, my least favorite part of cruising. It gets so hot standing there with your life vest, shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of strangers. It couldn’t be over soon enough.
After the boat drill Brian and I had time to ourselves to do some exploring. We had dinner with the rest of the group and then we reconvened right after dinner to set up. Earlier in the afternoon we were talking about maybe not doing in poker that evening because we weren’t sure if the porters would come through for us. Naomi, the crew member who is assigned to our group, came through though. The six-foot tables were there and the chairs were set up around them. The porters delivered the table tops to the conference room as we had requested and all we had to do was take them out of their carry cases and put them on the tables.
We finished dinner right at 8 PM so we hardly had enough time to set up. A mob of anxious poker players had formed outside the room. Brian served as bouncer, keeping people out while the rest of us got the room ready. Kurt arrived before long with the important poker stuff. So much for not having poker and taking it easy on the first night. =P
We had four single-table sit-n-go (SNG) satellites and then a $1-$2 Texas hold’em cash game with a $50-min and $200-max buy in. I was at table 1 and started first. Brian’s table, table 2, started next but they actually finished last. Dan had a crazy table that finished way before everyone else. I hung around to wait for Brian when I got done. My table finished before his, but both of our tables took forever. Could be that we are inexperienced dealers. Who knows?
Anyway, it was about 1 AM when we were finally dismissed. What a long day! Needless to say, I was in no mood to blog last night. Today, I’ve had breakfast so my tummy is quite happy and I’ve got some time to kill so I figured I would take this opportunity to give you guys an update.
We are due back in the conference room a little after 11 AM to prep for today’s poker tournaments and cash games which will start at 1 PM. I will ask Kurt who the SNG winners were from last night so we can post the results on here. Stay tuned.
