Brian Saves a Turtle
Posted on June 9, 2012 by Ching under Life.
Brian is awesome. He’s an animal hero. A few weeks ago he rescued a snake from being pummeled to death with a shovel. Had it not been for Brian who took the snake and released in into a nearby field, my dad would have killed it.
We came across another stray reptile last weekend. This time it was a turtle that was crawling on the pavement at the back entrance of our apartment complex. Not sure how it ended up on the hot concrete pavement. I think it might have gotten disoriented from the recent storm.
Brian and I decided to stop and help it because we weren’t sure that it could make it back to the creek that separates our apartment complex from the retirement home next door. I think that’s probably where it came from before the storm blew it away from home. Plus, we didn’t want to the poor guy to get run over.
Here’s a picture of the little guy.
I think he was scared because he crawled back into his shell. Brian had to hold him with one of the eco bags from our trunk because he had really long finger nails. Can you see them?
We couldn’t get as close to the creek as we wanted to because the ground was very muddy. We pointed him in the direction that he needed to go, though.
You can barely see him in this next photo.
You know, we felt like we did something good by putting the turtle back near water, but part of me was thinking, “What if he intended to cross the road?”
Brian was like, “I know. The poor guy is probably cussing us right now thinking, You asshole! It took me a month just to get that far. Now it will take me three times as long to get to where I’m going!” We both laughed. We had good intentions, though.

Backstage Tour of the Opry
Posted on May 31, 2012 by Ching under Life.
I’m really grateful for Carmen because if it weren’t for her I never would have had the opportunity to check out the Grand Ole Opry. It didn’t even occur to me to go. I’m glad that she asked me. I had no idea what I was missing out.
Brian was jealous when he found that we were going to a show. I promised to take him to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry for his birthday this year, so that’s what we did last weekend. The one thing that Carmen and I didn’t get to do last year was the backstage tour. Our travel schedule was really tight though, and we could barely squeeze in the show as it was.
Here are some of my favorite photos from the tour…
A photo of the empty auditorium.
This is the artists’ entrance.
The funniest part about this next photo is that as soon as I did it, a bunch of people from our tour group wanted to take the exact same photo. I’m such a trendsetter! LOL.
The most significant part about this circle is that it was a section of floor that was carved out of the original Opry House so that the present-day performer is standing on the same floor that other Country Music performers of the past have stood on.
Pretty amazing, huh?
Brian and I got to stand on the circle.
This is one of my most favorite photos of the evening.
I could barely see over the lectern.
This is a photo of our knowledgeable tour guide.
A close up photo of the mic stand.
They were able to salvage this art work after the flood. You can actually see the faint water stain halfway down the painting.
These next series of photos are of the beautifully-decorated dressing rooms backstage. They each have unique themes.
There are no closets in the dressing rooms so the performers are assigned lockers for any belongings that they wish to store.
Wall of Opry members, the newest one being Keith Urban.
A display case of Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl memorabilia.
The Grand Ole Opry post office.
Looking up at the ceiling of Studio A.
We took this photo while waiting for the backstage tour to begin, but I guess we weren’t suppose to… Ooops!

My First Gen 3 QT Experience
Posted on May 4, 2012 by Ching under Life.
Brian made a wrong turn on the way back to the Dills place from Ziggy’s so we ended up taking a detour to the QT located at Hillside and Kellogg instead. It’s the first and only third generation QuikTrip in Wichita, or so I’m told. It’s quite impressive, actually. Here are some pictures…
Besides the usual coffee bar, they have a tea bar and a frozen drink bar with all sorts of flavors. It’s quite overwhelming.
Mark was training one of the employees to make various beverages so we got some free drinks out of it.
Who knew QuikTrips could be so much fun?

Photo Booth Pictures
Posted on April 14, 2012 by Ching under Life.
These were taken at the GC Services photo booth during the networking reception on Monday night. It was the opening reception of the conference.
It took us a while to get our group framed in the photo just right. We finally got it right on the last try. Here’s my favorite of this set.
Kathy and I did some with just the two of us.
Here’s my favorite from our set.
The GC Services ladies, Kathy and Lori, were really cool. I found out later that they went to dinner with Don on one of the nights. Don had sent an email, but my Good app on my phone was acting up and the web version of my work email hates Macs. I didn’t see the email until it the next day. Oh, well.
Though I missed out on dinner, I had the pleasure of hanging out with these lovely ladies at Billy Bob’s Texas on Wednesday night. More on that later. For now, it’s time to hit the gym. Have a fantastic weekend and stay dry everyone!

Look, I Haven’t Killed It (Yet)
Posted on March 10, 2012 by Ching under Life.
I’m in charge of watering Jan’s orchid while she’s off work recovering. I just wanted to show everyone that, despite my occasional forgetfulness, I’ve managed to keep it alive. I’m just really glad that it’s an orchid because orchids are relatively easy to care for. Were it any other plant, I think it would have been dead by now. LOL.
