Walk-Ons Sports Bistreaux
Posted on September 22, 2022 by Ching under Food and Drink.
We had the opportunity to check out Walk-Ons last month. I think they had just opened. The irony is that we didn’t even know the place existed until we were trying to figure out where to go for dinner and one of our out of town guests suggested it. They knew better than we did!
The Walk-Ons in Wichita is in New Market Square, next to Olive Garden, in the space that used to be occupied by Granite City Food and Brewery. Granite City has been gone a while so I guess it was time that another restaurant took over the space. We have many sports bars in Wichita but none with a Cajun flair, so I guess that makes Walk-Ons pretty special.
The have fun drinks and the food is actually good. Here are some pics.
The desserts are pretty good there too.
We haven’t been back yet but once we get the alphabet dining tour going again, I can’t wait to return for the W. Until next time, GNG.

Weekend with Pickleball Pals
Posted on September 16, 2022 by Ching under Community, Pickleball.
My friend Karen Fox arranged a women’s ladder group at Chicken N Pickle with local and out of town ladies last month. It was so much fun! She’s working on putting another group like this together next weekend since several people will be in town for the ICT Fall-out Pickleball Tournament.
I’m not very good at women’s doubles so I appreciate opportunities to play with other women. I especially like formats like these where I can play with different partners because then I can test out my on-court chemistry with different people. I had the opportunity to play in Lacy Waugh’s round robin last weekend and I was surprised by the chemistry I had with a couple of people. Brandi Richardson and I did really well together. Krista Crawford was equally a great partner for me. Most of the time we are playing against each other so it was refreshing to be on her side of the net for a change. Also, I did the best with Lacy obviously but as Jen Tiano points out, “Lacy is everyone’s best partner.” She is amazing!
That same weekend we got to celebrate Cindy Witte’s 60th birthday.
It was a surprise party planned by her amazing husband, Joe. He literally is the best husband, second only to Brian. They are such a lovely couple who we got to spend quite a bit of time with while we were in Naples, FL earlier this year.
Pickleball friends are the best ever. Until next time, GNG.

Resort Food
Posted on September 12, 2022 by Ching under Food and Drink, Travel.
Pictures of our delicious dinner at El Patio on the first night.
I discovered the mango mezcalita on this trip and it was my absolute favorite drink while there. Of course, some were tastier than others depending on which bar or bartender made it.
Here are some pictures of our breakfast the next morning.
Lunch at Seaside Grill…
Giant calamari and itty bitty dessert.
Dinner at Himitsu…
Dinner at Portofino…
Fancy wedding food…
So much food, so little time… LOL. Anyway, this isn’t all the food that we ate but all the ones I got pics of — there was so much to eat, as is what always happens at all-inclusive resorts. Until next time, GNG.

Tulum, Mexico Wedding Highlights
Posted on September 8, 2022 by Ching under Events, Travel.
Mexico was a quick getaway for us just to get a break from our day to day. We had planned to stay at Hotel Xcaret, currently our favorite resort in Mexico, during the week of our 20th anniversary but then I found that Erica and her fiance Phillip were getting married in Tulum that same week. We quickly decided to change resorts and stay at the resort where they are having the wedding instead.
Pictures of the beach and pictures of the pool… Our room had a great view of both but the location wasn’t the best when it’s “party time” at the pool. The most peaceful time is first thing in the morning when people are still asleep.
Brian and I arrived on Wednesday and had a day to ourselves on Thursday before wedding festivities began.
Guests arrived throughout the week with everyone pretty much at the location on Friday. I was so impressed with how many friends and family members came to celebrate with Erica and Phillip. The bride and groom hosted a “meet and greet” on Friday night that gave everyone an opportunity to meet all the the other guests. Several people toasted the lovely couple and Big Lou gave a nice long speech.
Here’s a group pic of everyone from Friday night.
These next set of pics were taken at the ceremony and reception.
Between the ceremony and reception, we were treated to cocktails on the beach while being entertained by a local Mariachi Band as the family and wedding party took photos. Erica’s dad and aunt even sang along with the band.
Here’s a picture of the beautiful couple at the rooftop reception.
Brian and I had a wonderful time and even danced to a few songs. I stole this pic from Erica’s Facebook.
Then I made a highlight video consisting of pictures that I took and also some I grabbed from Facebook. Dreams Tulum did such a fabulous job with Erica and Phillip’s wedding. It almost made us want to renew our vows.
Until next time. GNG.

Chicken N Pickle Sponsored Athlete Sip ‘n Play
Posted on August 29, 2022 by Ching under Community, Pickleball.
Once a month, Chicken N Pickle hosts a “Sip ‘n Play” event for sponsored athletes. They give us a couple of courts for two hours so we can play, practice, and socialize with one another. It’s very generous of them and I am grateful for it. These are the highlights from the one we had this month.
These events are usually on the first Tuesday of the month but this month the first Tuesday coincides with Chicken N Pickle’s “Our Hearts are Local” employee volunteer day. Chicken N Pickle closes for the entire day so that employees can participate in a volunteer activity together. So our next sponsored athlete play day is on Wednesday, September 7, instead.
Other upcoming events at Chicken N Pickle include:
- September 13 – Newbie Night
- September 13-15 – Picklepalooza 2022
- September 20-22 – Chicken N Pickle Signature Camp
Are you signed up for any of these fun events? If so, see you there!
