Café Maurice

Café Maurice opened at Cambridge Market around the time that we were living at Quarters at Cambridge and yet somehow we never made our way there. We eventually moved away from the area to the Southeast side of town and so then it really became less likely that we would go there for dinner. But, as fate would have it, one night last month, we didn’t want to make dinner and decided we should go check it out. Here are a few pictures of dinner.
We decided the appetizer sampler was the way to go so we could check out all of the different starter options without having to order one of each thing separately.
For dinner I had tilapia and lots of rice. It came with two sides but, as I like rice a lot, I just got rice for both of my sides.
Brian had chicken shawarma and fries. At the end of your meal, they give you a little piece of tiramisu cake which is a nice bonus.
Café Maurice is actually pretty good both in terms of quality of food and value. I’m kind of glad we don’t live on that side of town anymore. Otherwise, we’d probably be there all the time. If you’re ever in the area, this place is worth checking out.

Palette to Palate

Brian and I got to experience a super fun party thanks to tickets from work and my coworker/friend Ebony. I’d always been curious about Palette to Palate but we’d never been able to go. With tickets at $300 per person, it’s definitely one of the more exclusive charity benefits in town. As you can imagine when I email came through about tickets being available, I jumped at the chance.

I should have gotten a better picture of this one (above) because it was Brian’s favorite. The one below was my favorite out of the wines we tasted.
Besides all the wines during the tasting, we also had several full sized bottles of wine at our table. These were the selections:
Out of this group, the Caymus was the one that Brian and I liked the best.
We looked for our favorites at Groves and found them to be way out of our price range! They’re even more expensive than our favorite “expensive” wine. LOL.
Besides the wine, we were also treated to some performance art by child prodigy Elisabeth Anisimow and Le Petit Cirque.

The Dapper Doughnut

Met up with some of my Leadership Wichita friends at the Dapper Doughnut a couple of weeks ago. It was my first time at the store but Brian and I actually tried their donuts a few months ago when they were at Greater Andover Days.
Here are a few pics.
The donuts are a bit on the expensive side — you only get six bite-sized pieces for $5, when you can get a dozen full-sized donuts at other places — but their donuts are super cute and delicious!
I’m craving some now as I look at these pics. LOL. I can’t wait to go back with Brian one day very soon.

Dani D’s Birthday Lunch at DT

The rest of the gang went to watch What Men Want after lunch. Brian and I opted out because we originally had plans to go to the Busted Pallet. However, the workshop that day ended up being canceled so we probably could have gone to the movies but we didn’t find out until it was too late.
Instead Brian and I ended up enjoying a nice quiet night and even had time to hit the nail spa. We ended up running into Teresa and Ross there.
It was a great day overall!

Chicken N Pickle

In case you didn’t know, Chicken N Pickle is officially open. Brian and I have been there a few times already. We were there for the lunch and learn event on Martin Luther King Day, during their soft open, for the Ditch the Date Valentines Day event, and again on Sunday morning for some pickleball. I’ve also been out there with Uncle Roy and his group for pickleball on a couple of Tuesdays.
Here are some pictures we got on our very first visit.
The indoor courts were ready but that was pretty much it.
They had a few food items you could buy for lunch but the main restaurant wasn’t open yet so the food selection was limited. It didn’t bother me too much, though. I was there to play pickleball mostly.
Brian and I were both off work that day for the Martin Luther King holiday so he took me to play pickleball at West YMCA first, where they play on Monday mornings starting at 9 AM. Then we went to Jay and Becca’s travel agency office to book our Costa Rica trip, since we were just down the street. After that we took my car to the dealership to get washed.
It was warm enough for the carwash to be running but, we found out the hard way, that it was actually still very cold. Chicken N Pickle is just down the street from the dealership so I talked Brian into walking over there for the lunch and learn while we were waiting for my car to be ready. I think Brian was cursing me under his breath the entire walk over. Anyway, despite the proximity, we ended up taking a Lyft car back to the dealership afterwards because neither of us wanted to deal with that cold wind again.
My next visit out there was for pickleball with Uncle Roy’s group. It worked out because we needed to pick up a TV mount at Best Buy so I went over there to play and then Brian took a Lyft ride over after taking care of our girls. Then we just went to Best Buy before heading home after pickleball.
I’m glad we went because Roy and Bonnie’s daughter Maddy who is an event coordinator at CNP was there and she told me about the soft open (read: free food).
Alex and I met up with Brian for lunch there the next day and had the opportunity to try several menu items.
I’m not sure what it is about free food but it’s always so tasty. Kidding aside, everything was truly very good.
We enjoyed everything we ate. In case you are wondering what all these are, here’s the menu card that we drew:

It is the perfect place for a party because they have so much space.
The following Tuesday, I was back again for pickleball with Roy’s crew. I took a picture of the card they had showing all of the upcoming events.
Then Brian and I were back again for “Ditch the Date” on Valentines Day. For $25 per person you got free food, two free drinks, and free pickleball from 6 PM to 9 PM. It was a pretty good deal!

When we arrived, we ran into one of the ladies who goes to my Zumba class (Diana Miller) and her husband. The four of us ended up hanging out for most of the evening on an accidental double date of sorts.

I also ran into some folks that we play pickleball with at the church that night. These are Debbie and Tiffany.
And, yes, Brian and I were nerds who wore matching outfits from head to toe.
It was such a fun night. Overall, I’m really pleased with CNP. I think it’s my new favorite place now. How can you go wrong with drinking and pickleball?
Brian and I like it so much that we actually went on location and did our Sunday morning FLIP + CHING video live from there.
If you haven’t tried CNP yet, I highly recommend it.
