Dinner at Las Cuevas
Posted on December 21, 2019 by Ching under Food and Drink, Travel.
This is one of the amazing restaurants at Hotel Xcaret. The restaurant is set inside caves carved out of peninsula rock, which made for a unique setting and fabulous views like the one below.
Picture of Becca below while we were waiting for Justin, Tina, and Jay. Justin and Tina got lost on the way (not hard to do because the resort is vast and maze-like) so Jay went to rescue them.
The three of us were left to take a bunch of pics while we waited for the rest of our party. Here’s a pic of Brian.
This one is of the three of us.
We had a great table, toward the outside, with an amazing view of the lagoon and other caves across the way.
Soup, salad, appetizers and other starters were served buffet-style while servers came around to your table with the different meats.
I was too busy enjoying the food so this is the only pic I got. They came to our table several times though with all types of meat.
Here are some pictures of the amazing buffet set up.
Besides the food buffet, there was also a booze buffet.
The all-female mariachi band performed at the restaurant the same night we were there. They were in different outfits this time but I recognized their voices even without seeing them.
I took several pics. They probably thought I was stalking them.
Here’s a short clip of their performance.
When I went to the restroom, I found them eating in one of the private dining rooms. They were nice enough to let me get a group pic.
In terms of food pics, this is all I got. Since it was a buffet, my place was pretty much just a mishmash of stuff. Everything was good and I enjoyed dinner immensely. My only regret was that I didn’t have as much of an appetite because it seemed like we had just finished eating only a couple of hours before.
I felt like all we did was eat on this trip. And, of course, celebrate.
Everything is pretty over the top at this resort so instead of ordinary birthday candles they have put a Roman candle like flare in your dessert.
Here it is without the candle. That’s all for tonight. Until next time. GNG.

Dinner at La Trajinera
Posted on December 18, 2019 by Ching under Food and Drink, Travel.
We were starving after our day at Xenses and we were also a little bit giddy. Even the monsoon couldn’t dampen our fun during dinner at La Trajinera.
Here are some pictures of the food we enjoyed.
This was the freshest and most delicious shrimp ceviche.
Jay got some octopus which I did not try.
Here’s Jay trying to feed everyone octopus.
And then this silliness happened.
The cake was delicious, by the way. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
Here are some pics of the cake before it was decimated.
But that wasn’t the only cake. We also enjoyed this one.
We enjoyed a lot of great food on this trip. I ate way too much. It was no surprise that I had gained over five pounds by the time we returned. But I have no regrets. #YOLO

My Hotel Xcaret Birthday Cakes
Posted on December 17, 2019 by Ching under Food and Drink.
Jay and Becca told the hotel we were celebrating my birthday on the trip and they delivered a beautiful and equally delicious cake to our room one night.
I was so full from dinner that all I could manage was a bite.
It was the most amazing white cake I’d ever tasted. It was kind of like a tres leches cake but not as wet. I still regret not eating all of it.
Might have to go back and celebrate another special occasion to have another shot at this cake. It was that good. LOL.
The next night we had another delicious cake delivered along with a bottle of red wine. This time it was from our butlers.
This cake was also amazing and I also couldn’t eat all of it.
There was delicious food at every turn. We would indulge every night at dinner so we would be too full by the time we retired to our room. Too full to enjoy the delicious cakes that were delivered for us.
So much great food. So little time. Will just have to back. Until next time. GNG.

Our Day at Xenses
Posted on December 16, 2019 by Ching under Travel.
Our group decided to go to Xenses next. It’s one of the nine parks that are part of Grupo Xcaret. Xenses was a totally different experience than Xavage. Here’s short video clip that explains it.
Here are some of our favorite pics from the park.
One of the activities you can do there is the Xensatorium. It’s basically a solo experience in a maze that takes you through various ecosystems in complete darkness. You basically have to feel your way through it.
You’re in there for what seems like forever. Here’s a couple of pics they snapped of me while I was in the Xensatorium.
When you finally get out of the dark maze, you see a clearing inside a cave where there is a big giant tree. It is breathtaking and totally worth all of the time spent wandering in the dark, not knowing if you’d ever get out. These are some of our favorite pics from this experience.
The tobogan at Xenses is the best waterslide I’ve ever ridden. Here’s a short Go Pro video clip followed by some stills that the park cameras took while Brian and I went down the slide. Enjoy!
These next set of pics are from the zip line.
Here’a short video of Brian going through the zip line.
Our next experience was Xpa where we floated in shallow water through a cave and then also floated in mud. Afterwards we went through a sort of car wash process that rinsed us off.
Xenses is a park unlike any other. It offers lots of interesting optical illusions and experiences that really stimulate all your senses. We had a blast there and highly recommend it for anyone visiting the Cancun and Riveria Maya area.
More trip recap next blog. Until then. GNG.
