Here’s one of the amazing views at Xel-Ha. On the right, you can see the lighthouse which is a very tall slide.

This is a picture of me going down the slide.

Brian walked to the top with me but he didn’t want to go down the slide. I actually did it twice. The first time I took the slow slide, which was too slow, so I walked all the way back up and went down the faster slide.

Brian got a video of me going down the slide.

Here’s a video of us walking through a grotto a Xel-Ha.

One of our favorite activities from that day was just floating along the river. It was a nice and leisurely float until it started raining on us.

That was another fun day. We highly recommend making the trip to Xel-Ha if you’re ever in the area. Until next time. GNG.

Hanging Out at Casa Fuego

Posted on December 26, 2019 by under Food and Drink, Life, Travel.

Our adults-only building at Hotel Xcaret is pretty self sufficient. It has two pools — one on the roof and our swim-up on the ground level. We have our own restaurant in the building. We have our own bars — the one inside Fuego Restaurant, at the rooftop pool, and the “secret” bar in the walking path.

All of the amenities in our building are private and for Casa Fuego guests only. It’s easy to sneak in because, even though you have to scan your bracelet to open the glass gates, you could always go around them and sometimes they’re left open. However, the resort is so vast and there’s something for everyone. Other guests staying at other buildings have access to so much, I doubt they even know or care what we have in Fuego. Brian and I had access to everything, plus all of the exclusive stuff in our building. Anyway, it’s very nice if you like to have peace and quiet and privacy.

Untitled

Here are a couple of pictures of us having breakfast at Fuego Restaurant, which was conveniently just a couple of doors down from our room.

Untitled

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner so it’s perfect for when we are in a rush or when we don’t want to deal with all the other guests or if we get back to the hotel late and don’t really want to venture out.

Untitled

Here’s a picture of Brian looking over the menu.

Untitled

Here’s a picture of the fancy menu.

Fuego Restaurant was the perfect place to do our short live update on location. We just did a short video before digging in to breakfast. Some food pictures follow.

Untitled

Instead of having a Panero come by, because the restaurant is exclusive to Casa Fuego guests and not many people are usually dining there, they just give you a tray with various pastries. You also get a tray with four different spreads.

Untitled

Here’s a closer look at the breads.

Untitled

Everything is fancy at Fuego.

Untitled

After breakfast, we went back to our room to lay in the hammocks out on the patio.

Untitled

We had a great view of the ocean and access to the pool. It was quite nice and relaxing. Then we decided to go up to the rooftop pool.

Untitled

The rooftop pool has amazing 360 views of the resort and the ocean.

We went back to Fuego Restaurant for dinner on a separate occasion. Here are some pictures of that night’s dinner menu.

Here’s a picture of the restaurant’s signature drink. Of all the delicious drinks I tried there, this was my most favorite.

Untitled

Brian even liked it.

Untitled

Video of Brian trying to explain the drink.

Here’s the server explaining it. This explanation was more simplified than the first one. We originally thought it was the drink of the day but they let me keep ordering it in the days that followed. I kept going back to the restaurant just to get that drink because I liked it that much.

Picture of our toasted bread in a bread envelope.

Untitled

Fancy appetizer on a piece of rock. I could have eaten six of these.

Untitled

Everything on the menu was too fancy for Brian so he just wanted tomato soup and fries. The service at the restaurant is top notch. They actually offered to make him a burger, even though it wasn’t listed on the menu. They seriously do everything within their power to please you.

Here’s a picture of my delicious lobster risotto.

Untitled

I can’t remember what this was called but it was also amazing!

Untitled

Here’s another picture of my favorite drink on a different visit. I think we were headed somewhere else — maybe lunch with the rest of the crew and I just had to swing by and get one of these to go.

Untitled

Brian and I liked the restaurant so much that we decided to go back there for breakfast on departure day.

Untitled

We got to eat outside this time.

Untitled

The weather we had that day was the best we’d had all week.

We took advantage of the opportunity to eat outside.

The most beautiful French toast I’d ever laid eyes on.

Here’s a close up photo. It was as delicious as it was beautiful.

We really enjoyed our week at Hotel Xcaret and loved staying in the Casa Fuego building. Every detail of our stay was amazing. We will definitely go back!

Dinner at Las Cuevas

Posted on December 21, 2019 by under Food and Drink, Travel.

Untitled

This is one of the amazing restaurants at Hotel Xcaret. The restaurant is set inside caves carved out of peninsula rock, which made for a unique setting and fabulous views like the one below.

Untitled

Picture of Becca below while we were waiting for Justin, Tina, and Jay. Justin and Tina got lost on the way (not hard to do because the resort is vast and maze-like) so Jay went to rescue them.

Untitled

The three of us were left to take a bunch of pics while we waited for the rest of our party. Here’s a pic of Brian.

Untitled

This one is of the three of us.

Untitled

We had a great table, toward the outside, with an amazing view of the lagoon and other caves across the way.

Untitled

Soup, salad, appetizers and other starters were served buffet-style while servers came around to your table with the different meats.

Untitled

I was too busy enjoying the food so this is the only pic I got. They came to our table several times though with all types of meat.

Untitled

Here are some pictures of the amazing buffet set up.

Untitled

Besides the food buffet, there was also a booze buffet.

Untitled

Untitled

The all-female mariachi band performed at the restaurant the same night we were there. They were in different outfits this time but I recognized their voices even without seeing them.

Untitled

Untitled

I took several pics. They probably thought I was stalking them.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Here’s a short clip of their performance.

When I went to the restroom, I found them eating in one of the private dining rooms. They were nice enough to let me get a group pic.

Untitled

In terms of food pics, this is all I got. Since it was a buffet, my place was pretty much just a mishmash of stuff. Everything was good and I enjoyed dinner immensely. My only regret was that I didn’t have as much of an appetite because it seemed like we had just finished eating only a couple of hours before.

Untitled

I felt like all we did was eat on this trip. And, of course, celebrate.

Everything is pretty over the top at this resort so instead of ordinary birthday candles they have put a Roman candle like flare in your dessert.

Untitled

Here it is without the candle. That’s all for tonight. Until next time. GNG.

Dinner at La Trajinera

Posted on December 18, 2019 by under Food and Drink, Travel.

We were starving after our day at Xenses and we were also a little bit giddy. Even the monsoon couldn’t dampen our fun during dinner at La Trajinera.

Here are some pictures of the food we enjoyed.

This was the freshest and most delicious shrimp ceviche.

Jay got some octopus which I did not try.

And then this silliness happened.

The cake was delicious, by the way. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

Untitled

Here are some pics of the cake before it was decimated.

Untitled

But that wasn’t the only cake. We also enjoyed this one.

Untitled

We enjoyed a lot of great food on this trip. I ate way too much. It was no surprise that I had gained over five pounds by the time we returned. But I have no regrets. #YOLO
