Taste & See
Posted on December 4, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink.
I finally got around to using the Taste & See gift card that Tiffe, Sunni, and Carmen got for me a couple of months ago. Thank you guys for the thoughtful gift!
This is the queso fondue at Taste & See. It’s a delicious starter and possibly one of my most favorite items on the menu.
This is the oceanic mac & cheese. It’s not quite as cheesy as the one that Darcy had several weeks ago. It was still very good, though.
Brian got the real Cubano. He said it wasn’t as meaty as the last time he had the sandwich, but it is still his favorite thing to get there.
There was a private party at the restaurant on Friday night so Chef Jason was busy making food for the party guests. This was their main course, which is kind of like a beef Wellington.
Here’s Chef Jason in action, plating the dessert, which looked super delicious.
Despite the hectic evening, Chef Jason found the time to stop for a photo op with Brian. He’s such a ham! Hopefully we’ll be watching him on the Food Network in the very near future. His personality is perfect for TV.
Besides Chef’s table on Thursday nights, here are some upcoming events.
The theme of the next Ultimate Dining Experience is Frozen Tundra. That’s on January 8, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Then Lessons in Mixology is the following Tuesday, January 15, same time.
On January 22, Chef Jason is holding a special “Valentine Romance” cooking class. Anyway, these events fill up pretty quickly, so if you’re interested, be sure to call 316-771-7393 right away to reserve your spot. Tell them I sent you!

The House Cleaning Workout
Posted on December 2, 2012 by Ching under Home Ownership.
I skipped Zumba today to help Brian clean our house. It took several hours, but we got it done. Brian thought he got more of a workout cleaning house than he normally does going to the gym. I had to disagree. Amie’s ab workouts are pretty intense.
I normally feel like a bum when I skip the gym. Not so today. I truly feel like we achieved a lot. In case you were wondering, I did more than just take photos of Brian working. I did all of the vacuuming and much of the dusting. It was pretty much a team effort all the way.
After all was said and done, Brian was like, “Today made me realize how big our house is.” I told him that I knew that already. What I realized today is that we are fully capable of cleaning our own house, we’re just too lazy to do it.

Christmas Came Early for Brian
Posted on December 1, 2012 by Ching under Toys.
Nothing says “steal me” like a Black & Decker box on your front porch. Good thing we had time to run home and bring the box in the house.
Brian has been wanting one of these for several months now. Our friend Feifel even tried to get us to buy an edger and blower set that they were selling at Lowe’s. We decided to hold out until next year, though. I’m really glad that we held out because we saw this one on Amazon over the weekend of Black Friday, and the price was even better. We ended up getting a bush trimmer in addition to the edger and leaf blower.
It’s pretty much got everything you need to keep your yard looking immaculate. Here’s photo of Brian modeling one of his new toys.
Brian is sooo spoiled. =P

Havarti Party
Posted on December 1, 2012 by Ching under Food and Drink.
When we had Jenni, Jay, and Becca over for dinner last Sunday, we decided to have some light fare because we’d been stuffing our faces a lot over the holiday weekend. We just had sandwiches, chips, cheese and crackers, and, of course, House Wine, which is a staple over here.
The funny thing is, it was that day that Brian and I realized we didn’t have a cheese board. We improvised by using our pizza paddle and it worked out just fine. We could use a cheese board for Christmas, though.

Jenni’s Birthday Dinner at OTB
Posted on December 1, 2012 by Ching under Events, Family, Food and Drink.
I got to meet some of my sister’s friends last weekend when we joined them at On the Border to celebrate her 23rd birthday. She’s really 32, but didn’t want to admit it that night so she transposed the numbers of her age in her favor. Sorry, Jen, but that trick won’t work next year. LOL.
UP NEXT: Obligatory food photos… because I don’t really take pictures of people. Ha! Darcy and I realized this the other day when we did a Google images search of my name “Ching Brubaker” and there was one picture of me and Brian and the rest were pictures of food. Can you guess which plate belonged to me? One, two, three, or four? Post your answer in the comments below.
I almost forgot the linky link. Oops! Can’t do that. Must maintain our Urbanspoon ranking. LOL.
I forgot to check in at our house on FourSquare yesterday and Brian stole my mayorship. Whaaa!
But I digress… The food at OTB is decent. It doesn’t rank in my list of favorite restaurants, but I don’t mind their food. Plus, I always get the same thing anyway. I won’t tell you what dish I get because you’re supposed to guess it. I think people mostly go to OTB for drinks and for socializing, not so much for their phenomenal food. But, Los Cocos my favorite place for social drinking. You can’t beat $1.99 margaritas everyday.
The one thing that OTB has on Los Cocos is location, location, location. OTB is conveniently located at Bradley Fair and there’s not a Los Cocos in the Northeast part of town. Plus, it was Jenni’s birthday so she got to pick the restaurant. I didn’t mind OTB, but I hope she picks a different place next year.
