Lost Baggage Woes
Posted on October 5, 2009 by Ching under Travel.
I shouldn’t have joked about losing our carry on luggage because I think ended up jinxing us. Mom’s check-in luggage (the one and only one we checked in) actually ended up getting lost. We checked the bag in Wichita and it was supposed to be checked in straight to Cebu.
When we arrived in San Francisco, we found out that the overhead luggage bins of the Cathay Pacific planes going to and from Hong Kong, San Francisco and Cebu are smaller than regular overhead bins. The Cathay Pacific rep at the SFO airport made us check in our carry on bags. This made us a bit uncomfortable because we were worried that the airline might lose them. Our carry ons have all of our clothes and necessities, without which our trip would be completely messed up.
Anyway, our carry ons actually arrived in Cebu without any problems. What ended up getting lost was mom’s bag that was checked in Wichita. Cathay Pacific has been fantastic during this whole trip so we are blaming the fiasco on United. After all, United breaks guitars. LOL.
We were bummed at first because most of mom’s pasalubongs were in that bag. However, we found out yesterday that the airline found the lost luggage and are shipping it Tito Cyrus’ address in Dumaguete per mom’s request. It ended up working out better, actually.
If mom’s enormous check in luggage hadn’t been lost we would’ve had to lug it with us on our trip from Cebu to Bohol and then from Bohol to Negros. As it was, our carry on bags barely fit in the trunk of the taxi cab that took us from the Mactan airport in Cebu to the pier. If we would have had mom’s bag, we would have been really cramped in the cab and also in Tita Neneng’s car on the trip to Tanjay from the Dumaguete pier.
The airline’s losing that bag turned out to be a blessing in disguise. LOL.

Central Visayas Weather
Posted on October 1, 2009 by Ching under Life.
It looks like it’s going to be pretty rainy during our trip. Yikes. I guess this is what we get for traveling to the Philippines during monsoon season. Blech. [ Note to self: Travel in May next time. ]
The weather is in metric so the temperatures are in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. The weather is a constant 85F to 90F degrees so it’s going to be pretty hot and humid during our trip. And, did I mention rainy? Yeah, it will be pretty rainy. =P

What I Want to Do on Vacation
Posted on September 30, 2009 by Ching under Things to Do, Travel.
The crappy thing about traveling to the Philippines from the US is that you lose a day. We’ll be leaving Wichita tomorrow afternoon and we won’t actually arrive in Cebu until 11:30 AM on Saturday. We lose all of Friday traveling. Yuck.
Anyway, I think the plan is to go directly to Bohol from Cebu. I’m not sure yet if we will be staying in Tagbilaran or Panglao; or if we will be staying in one of the resorts or at Tita Esper’s house there. What I do know for sure is that I want to check out the following:
- Tarsiers
- Loboc River
- Butterfly Sanctuary
- Hinagdanan Cave
- Chocolate Hills
- Rice Terraces
I’m thinking that we will stay in Bohol for a couple of days before taking a ferry to Dumaguete and then finally going to Tanjay. There is supposed to be a big party on Friday night for mom’s birthday and Tito Cyrus promise me a tour of the geothermal power plant where he works (I think it’s the one in Valencia because it’s the closest one to Dumaguete). While in Negros, I also want to do the following:
- Casaroro Falls
- Dolphin Watching
- Antulang/Bahura
- Family Time
We plan to leave Tanjay a few days early so we can spend time in Cebu doing touristy-type stuff. Having lived in the Philippines, I never really got to visit the tourist attractions so this is my opportunity to do it. Plus, Brian’s never been to the Philippines so we want to give him the full treatment. The things I want to do in Cebu are:
- Kawasan Falls
- Sumilon Island
- Casino Filipino
- Tops Skyline Garden
- Jetscape Adventures
- Bantayan
- Boracay
I know this is a long list. I doubt that we’ll get to do everything that I want to do during the two weeks we’re there. Though, if we don’t then we’ll have even more reasons to return. Maybe we’ll be able to spend three weeks next time. 🙂
